BAXTER SEMINARY

Baxter Seminary served over 10,000 students from its start up until its closing and its sale to the Putnam County School system in 1959. The campus and facilities then became the Dr. Harry L. Upperman High School. It was no longer associated with the Methodist church but many of the traditions remained as did the motto, Truth Honor Loyalty Service... The desire to re-light the Baxterseminary.org website was doused with fuel after learning that the Titanic Bible, the only known Bible that survived the sinking of the Titanic, was on display in the library of Baxter Seminary for multiple decades! This was coupled with the need to determine the number and to identify family veterans who took courses after World War II at Baxter Seminary on the G. I. Bill. This information was needed to make sure that their names and branch of service would be included in the memorial being constructed to honor them at the new Upperman High school.
