Here at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in Baltimore, our research associate program in emergency medicine and critical care (RAP-EMCC) enlists undergraduate and graduate level students in multiple clinical research studies. Our program was founded in 2016 by a small group of students and our principal investigator, Dr. Quincy Tran, with a mission to expose students to clinical research and prepare them for health professional school and beyond. The program has grown since then to include approximately 25 active members and 30 alumni who are involved in several research projects centered around improving care outcomes for critically-ill patients. Research associates in our program are involved in prospective studies directly at UMMC, as well as several retrospective studies and meta-analyses, where they are responsible for gathering information from electronic medical records, online literature databases, and patient charts. Our members are trained in data collection..
