Vertical Harvest energizes local food systems via hydroponic, vertical, controlled environmental agriculture (CEA) to deliver healthier food and futures. We work with communities to develop underutilized space in urban, underserved neighborhoods, grow "up" on a fraction of the land required by traditional agriculture, while using 85% less water to deliver our produce at peak flavor and nutrition, year-round... Most U.S. cities grow less than 2% of the food their populations consume. More than half of those with developmental disabilities are unemployed in most urban areas. By growing 40 acres worth of produce in ¼-acre urban hydropondic farms and hiring this forgotten workforce to cultivate it, Vertical Harvest can help tackle both job and food insecurity across the nation...
