Gray hair is caused by dysfunction in the hair pigment system, which depends on a specialized pool of stem cells called melanocyte stem cells. We use models of hair graying and melanocyte stem cells as key tools to reveal mechanisms of stem cell aging and identify therapeutics for stem cell rejuvenation.
