Originally qualified as an Electronics and Electrical Engineer, Adrian worked for a company in 1993 who were beginning to refurbish machinery in the bottling and packaging Industries. Refurbished machinery must be CE marked under The Machinery Directive and so underwent extensive bespoke training by Dr Malcolm Fox from Teesside University in Middlesbrough in PUWER, The Machinery Directive and the many Harmonised European Safety Standards that were created to support the new European Directives regarding machinery safety. Teeside University were the government-appointed body to provide support to UK industry on the New Approach Directives. Adrian was one of the first machinery safety advisors to many clients in the bottling and packaging Industries.
In 1998, Adrian created ST&L Limited in response to the need to provide quality, professional and no-nonsense advice, consultancy & support to end-users of machinery, following the introduction of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) for existing machinery and The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations in the UK for the CE-Marking of new machinery.
Adrian has 25 years experience in the machinery safety industry. He has project managed numerous risk assessment projects ranging from single machines to 900 machines located on 16 sites all over Europe. He has designed, installed, commissioned and validated many safety-related control systems (SRCS) for a wide variety of machine types across a wide variety of industries. He is experienced in CE Marking of machinery and technical file creation.
He has personally PUWER-assessed many hundreds of machines, writing detailed technical reports and recommended corrective actions. He has designed, written commissioned and validated safety PLC software for many clients. One of his specialities is the writing of corporate machinery safety specifications for particular industries, based on Harmonised European Safety Standards.

Brian has actively been involved in Health and Safety for over 18 years, specialising in Machinery safety for the last 11 years. Brian has been lucky enough to work in many different types of industry from Nuclear to chocolate-making and as such have gained a vast and wide understanding of many issues associated with machinery safety. Brian is a highly qualified teaching professional who is both passionate about health and safety and keen to pass his knowledge on to others.
Bu-Bu Bear is relatively new to the offices at ST&L. However, she will ensure you have a very warm and friendly welcome, but please note she is a stickler for following the signing-in procedure. She will always be ready to escort you to any part of the building just to make sure you arrive there safely. She takes her role very seriously.

Jan has joined the team as our site administrator to aid in the smooth facilitation of the assessors site visits with our customers. Jan is also responsible for ensuring they have everything they need to perform efficiently and effectively whilst providing the core ST&L services
Jan has extensive experience in working in an office environment from working with the police, the justice system, and most recently with a well known builders merchants.
Jan has joined the ST&L team as our site administrator helping the Office Manager to run the site administration side of the business. Jan will be a key player in supporting our site teams and facilitating their site visits.FIND OUT MORE

Laura is bringing many years of experience in the engineering industry to ST&L, having received the Engineering Technician accreditation with the Engineering Council, and is also currently registered with the IET as a Technical Member. Laura has worked with in various engineering environments from Precision Engineering to large scale utility infrastructure design engineering. To this end, Laura has completed NVQ's in Performing Engineering Operations, Electrical Power Engineering, Computer Aided Design and also undertaken audit training, contributing to developing systems for ISO accreditation.
Laura has many years experience running an office, having received an NVQ Level 3 in Administration as well as accreditation from the Institute of Leaders & Managers (ILM) to Level 3 standard and awarded QCF Level 3 in Education and Training.

Over the last 39 years he has been repairing, designing, building and modifying machinery in many different industries from Bottling and Packaging to Steel Product Production also power generation to Fuel testing. Graduated from the University of South Wales with a Master's degree in Computer Science, Zach has integrated himself as part of the ST&L team, developing and continuously improving ST&L's machinery safety assessment tool (MSAT).).
Working side-by-side with ST&L's MSAT steering group, Zach has been building MSAT from the ground up to be tailored to the assessors exact specifications, translating every requirement into fully processed features.
Zach can also be seen onsite, trialling and testing new MSAT features in-situ, and whilst undertaking machinery assessments, ensuring the Tool is functioning well, creating efficiencies in assessments and subsequent reporting.
