He graduated in 2002 with the University of London Gold Medal in Dentistry. Since 2002 he has provided part-time general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and minor oral surgery. In 2008-2009 John undertook international training in dental implantology and an 18-month Harley Street dental implant mentoring programme. Over the last 10 years he has built up a routine and complex dental implant service for dental practitioners between Oxford and London. In addition he receives self-referrals from patients from across the UK, Europe and America. John returned to Barts and The London to read Medicine in 2004 to pursue his life-long ambition to become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He graduated in 2007 with double distinction and achieved the highest score in the final clinical exams. After completing junior doctor posts in the Oxford Deanery, John commenced specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on the South Coast of England and completed specialist training in 2014. Alongside his South Coast training he has pursued his interest in Facial Cosmetic Surgery and Dental Implantology by attending courses and conferences across the UK, Europe, United States and Australia. In 2015 John commenced the European Association of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgeons (EACMFS) Fellowship in Facial Cosmetic Surgery at the European Face Centre, University Hospital of Brussels, Belgium. During this time he developed the latest skills in providing facial cosmetic surgery and optimising outcomes for patients with developmental and post-traumatic facial deformity. This was a year where he also learned innovative dental implant techniques to add to his current implant practise. In 2016, John returned to London to become a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust. Sub-specialising in cranio-maxillo-facial trauma, facial deformity and reconstruction. John has been dedicated to providing high quality dental implant care. Patients appreciate his in-depth facial and dental analysis and time at consultation spent explaining dental implants, bone augmentation and soft tissue concepts. In addition to conventional implants he provides a wide range of augmentation procedures including internal and lateral sinus lifting, activated platelet rich fibrin sinus lifting and socket preservation, minimally invasive ridge split techniques, piezo-electric surgery and mini-implants, zygomatic implants and nasalis implants for strophic cases. Many patients referred at the dental extraction stage have the opportunity of immediate implant placement or a short delay following minimally invasive extractions before 1-stage flap-less implant surgery. This minimises patient discomfort, swelling and down time. John offers the full range of implant options for single anterior or posterior implants to implant supported bridges to full mouth removal and fixed cases. In 2016 John Blythe was the pioneer surgeon in the UK to perform the surgical placement and prosthetics of a Replicate â„¢ tooth. A customised implant system based on merging digital impressions and computer tomograph data to create an implant that is a replica of the root to be replaced. The one-piece system combines abutment and root form. John presented his impressive first 10 cases at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and later a series at ACTA, Amsterdam. In recognition of John Blythe's innovative techniques in non-surgical aesthetics and surgical aesthetic procedures he was invited in 2017 to become the keynote speaker for Allergan Medical International. In 2017 alone he lectured to over 2,500 international surgeons and aesthetic practitioners on innovative cosmetic techniques including lipofilling (autologous fat injections), hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and Botulinum A toxin therapy. In 2017, John achieved an academic milestone with the invitation to write two chapters (facial osteology, orbital anatomy) for the soon to be published surgical edition of Gray's Anatomy and continues his research interest in relation to cosmetic surgery and facial reanimation treatment.
