Elliscars was started in Exeter in 1950 by Rufus Davies and at the time was the largest family owned Driving School in the UK... At its height it employed 26 driving instructors at locations in Exeter and Exmouth. Before driving instructors were regulated, Elliscars had already begun to train them to make sure that there was a high standard of tuition given to their students... This resulted in winning, on two occasions the coveted RAC Driving Instructor of the Year Competition.
