Maureen McAllister

Maureen McAllister has over 25 years' experience of strategic tourism marketing and development, working in the public and private sector; during this time, she has led the development and successful implementation of strategic and operational plans for many destinations. Maureen has held high profile destination management positions in Gloucester, Birmingham, the English Riviera and latterly leading the tourism and culture agenda for the South West Regional Development Agency. She currently holds the role of Executive Director for Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Tourism. Maureen has achieved some notable successes throughout her career - working on a national level with Partners for England and VisitEngland, setting up a destination performance management organisation (DP:UK) and acting in the lead tourism role for England's Regional Development Agencies. She has led her teams to achieve various awards and standards - IIP (South West Tourism); Beacon status for Promoting Sustainable Tourism 2004 (Birmingham); England for Excellence - Destination of the Year Award (Gloucester); Resort of the Year 2004 (Torquay). Since setting up McAllister and Co, she has achieved success for her clients including the innovative marketing award for Kents Cavern in the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism Awards, and with Experience Nottinghamshire working with their businesses on the VisitEngland awards for Excellence, which led to Nottinghamshire winning 5 awards at a national level. On a personal level, Maureen was a finalist in the 2014 Venus awards for small business of the year. Maureen has worked hard to develop and maintain critical partnerships, both with the public and private sector; she also benefits from wide and varied contacts and connections across the entire visitor economy. She is a skilled team leader and manager, with a practical knowledge of personnel development and motivation; she is also an organised and efficient budget and project manager. She is dynamic, innovative and creative, has excellent communication and presentation skills, and is a confident public speaker.
