Alexander Church - CEO

Alexander is a Managing Partner of Iceni and has been investing in smaller, fast growing companies for 12 years. In addition to his role at Iceni, Alex is the Chief Investment Officer at J Leon & Company, a diversified investment group with interests in a wide variety of sectors. J Leon & Co was a cornerstone investor in Iceni Capital. Alexander is also a main board director of Thesis Asset Management, an investment firm with approximately £2.5 billion of assets under management and approximately £13 billion of assets under administration. Alexander previously worked in the corporate finance department of Apax Partners (which subsequently became Altium Capital). He holds an MA from Edinburgh University

Christopher Samler

An entrepreneur and investor with extensive CEO experience in venture funded and turnaround situations in European healthcare and business service companies. In 1997, he was appointed Weston Medical Group's first CEO and led it from concept through several rounds of funding to a full UK listing in 2000. Prior to this he was the first CEO of Imutran, a Cambridge-based healthcare company that was sold to the Swiss based pharmaceutical multinational, Novartis. He co-founded Iceni Capital in 2005 and became Chairman of TQ Education and Training which was sold to Pearson plc in 2011. He was asked to stay on and is now President, Venture Markets for the Pearson Group. He holds an MA from the University of Oxford and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Julian Hanson-Smith

An entrepreneur and private equity investor, formerly a Principal at Lake Capital, a US-based private equity firm specialising in the business services sector, responsible for investment activity in the UK between 2001-5.In 1986 he co-founded Financial Dynamics, a company he built to become one of Europe's pre-eminent consultancies specialising in business communications for corporate clients. He led an MBO of the company and, in 1999, its successful sale. In 2005 he co-founded Iceni capital where he created Stockwell Communications from inception and which he continues to Chair. He has a number of other directorships and investments within the media sector.

Michael Hough

An entrepreneur and experienced investment banker, he co-founded Altium Capital in 1990 to provide advice to small and mid-sized companies seeking private equity, recapitalisation funds or an exit. Altium Capital grew into a leading boutique investment bank for smaller companies with offices across Europe and over 120 employees. In 2001 he and several other partners invested in a successful London-based retail fund management company. In 2005 he co-founded Iceni Capital. He began his investment banking career at Goldman Sachs & Co in New York, before joining Drexel Burnham Lambert in London in 1988. He holds an MBA from the University of Virginia's Darden School and is a fellow of the UK Securities and Investment Institute.

Vince Smith - CEO

An investor in small businesses for 25 years and has run J Leon's private equity business since 1992. Investments have included a number of market leading businesses including Acis, a provider of intelligent transport systems, Antenna Audio, the world leader in audio and audio-visual interpretation to the culture and leisure sectors, Ted Baker the clothing designer, Carluccio's restaurants and Zero C, a sustainable property developer. He co-founded Iceni Capital in 2005 raising funds from several European family offices and US based endowment funds. The fund was corner-stoned by J Leon. Recent investments at Iceni include Mentor, a provider of engineers to the oil industry which was sold to Vinci Energies in December 2013, Zero C and Ito World, an internet mapping business. He holds a business degree, qualified as a chartered accountant and worked at Price Waterhouse in business advisory and corporate finance.
