Alice Bainbridge RVN

Job Titles:
  • Registered Veterinary Nurse
Alice has been with us since our move down to Askrigg in 2016 and undertook her training with us. She qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2018. Alice has a lot responsibility in the practice, taking care of the in patients. Her roles includes anaesthetics, bandaging, consulting, stock control and even minor surgery. She particularly enjoys getting involved in large animal nursing and does lots of blood sampling and assisting with large animal operations. Alice has a 2 year old Shetland Sheepdog, called Luna. She has a keen interest in photography and took most of the staff pictures!

Davinia Hinde

Davinia qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006. She has worked in the Dales since then. Her main interests are sheep and nutrition and she is especially interested in the health planning and preventative aspects of sheep work. She the second vet in the country to hold a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, in sheep. In recognition of her certificate and commitment to continued professional development she has been recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as an Advanced Practitioner in Sheep Health and Production. Davinia has a masters degree in Ruminant Nutrition at Harper Adams University and this knowledge lets her get her teeth into ruminant nutrition problems. Davinia is also a resident of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management. She is heavily involved in the vet world outside the practice, she is a member of the sheep vet society executive committee, she is an assessor for the RCVS on the advanced practitioner panel and is a member of SCOPS. She also has published articles in peer reviewed papers and has spoken at many conferences. She also works for Liverpool Vet School assessing post-graduate courses in sheep and has provided talks for their undergraduates. Outside of work Davinia is a keen cook and gardener. She can grow it, cook it, preserve it and pickle it! She is also relishing the challenge of training ‘Molly' a working cocker spaniel.

Ellie Keightley

Job Titles:
  • Veterinary Surgeon
Ellie is originally from East Yorkshire and graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2021 She enjoys the diversity of working in genuine mixed practice, especially in such a beautiful part of the country! Her main interests include cattle nutrition, youngstock management and companion animal medicine. In the future, she is hoping to develop these interests further with the practice. She is also involved in mentoring prospective veterinary students. Outside of work, she is keen on history, musicals and countryside walks.

Emma Sutherland

Job Titles:
  • Student Veterinary Nurse
Emma joined us in 2023 and is currently studying at Askham Bryan College in York to become a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse. Emma enjoys all aspects of the nursing role. She enjoys pre-operative and post-operative care and general surgical cases. In her spare time Emma enjoys spending time with her family, friends and most importantly her dogs - Willow and Cooper, which she enjoys taking for long walks in the countryside.

Jennifer Baker

Job Titles:
  • Receptionist
Jennifer joined our team in January 2023 and now works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and alternate Saturdays at our Askrigg surgery. She has lived in the dales all her life and has always loved having pets of all types since a young age. Currently she has a black Labrador, Asti, 2 tabby cats, Bu & Bow, and 3 chickens to keep her busy at home. Outside of work, Jennifer loves theatre and concert trips, photography, spending time with friends and family, or exploring the UK with her husband and Labrador in their caravan, Dora.

Michael Woodhouse

Michael is a true Yorkshireman originally from Scarborough, he qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, in 2006. He has worked in the Dales since then. His main interest lays with Dairy cows and he is especially interested in the fertility, mastitis and lameness aspects. He is a mobility mentor for the DairyCo Healthy Feet project and qualified to deliver the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan. Michael is one of the first handful of vets in the country to complete a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, in Cattle Health and Production. He holds a Diploma in Bovine Reproduction from the University of Liverpool, a specialist level qualification. In recognition of his certificate and commitment to continued professional development he has been recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as an Advanced Practitioner in Cattle Health and Production and Bovine Reproduction. Outside of work he enjoys shooting (clays, vermin and game), walking his little Patterdale and making things out of wood. He has a serious tool addiction and claims to need a bigger shed! He has a pretty mean whisky collection.

Philippa Stirke

Job Titles:
  • Veterinary Surgeon
Pippa graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2016. She is a local girl originating from Newton-Le-Willows near Bedale. Pippa is genuinely interested in all aspects of mixed practice but particularly enjoys small animal surgery (including dentistry) and farm animal emergencies. After 7 years at the practice Pippa is enjoying becoming more involved in routine dairy fertility work and developing her orthopaedic surgery skills. She is also a Sheep Lameness adviser, a BCVA Johnes Adviser Pippa spent a lot of her younger years showing sheep, lambing and working on a local thoroughbred stud yard. Pippa was also an enthusiastic member of Winksley Cum Grantley Young Farmers Club.

Samantha Carlisle

Job Titles:
  • Receptionist
Samantha joined us in November 2023. You will see her in the Askrigg surgery on Monday, Tuesday and alternative Saturdays. Originally from Belfast but met her Yorkshire husband in Australia and now they live in Woodhall next door to her in-laws with their two children. Being a city girl, living in the dales has been a huge shock to the system. Her only regret is that she didn't do it sooner!! She loves the Yorkshire Dales and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. If she's not out running with her whippet, Binx, she loves going on long walks with her family, exploring new parts whenever they can. When the rain comes, she loves trying out new crafts.

Sophie Preston

Job Titles:
  • Student Veterinary Nurse
Sophie joined us at the end of 2022 and is currently studying at Askham Bryan college in Gateshead to become a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse. Sophie enjoys getting involved all around the practice such as caring for inpatients, assisting with monitoring animals during anaesthetics, and even more when it comes to caesareans, and is excited to learn everything she can. In her spare time Sophie loves spending time with her dogs at home, riding horses and travelling.
