Adam Jolly

Adam Jolly was appointed Tutor of E Social in September 2023. After completing a degree in Neuroscience at the University of Nottingham, he taught at Reed's School for six years before moving abroad for two years. He moved back to the UK and was the Head of Biology at St Helen and St Katharine School, Abingdon, before joining Radley in 2020. Before taking up the position of Tutor of E Social, he was Resident Sub Tutor in C Social for two years. He enjoys playing and coaching many sports, but none more than hockey, which he has played for as long as he can remember. He lives in E Social with his wife Erin, daughter Aoife, and dog Goose.

Andrew Ashton was appointed Bursar of Radley College in September 2008. He has overall responsibility for the financial and operational life of the College, and the management of all non-teaching staff. After Newcastle Royal Grammar School, Andrew studied chemistry at Oxford and moved into the banking sector, rising to become Director of Strategy, Performance and Client Services at Barclays Africa. He then spent three and a half years as a management consultant within the financial services sector before taking up the role of Bursar at Radley College. Andrew plays a significant role in the local community and was previously a governor and Chair of the Resources Committee at Radley Primary School. He is now a trustee and former Chair of the Radley Lakes Trust, a governor of Shiplake College and Chair of the Organisation, Remuneration and Nominations Committee of the Boarding Schools' Association. Despite growing up in Newcastle, Andrew considers Radley and the surrounding area as his spiritual home. He is married to Jillian, and they have one son, Philip. In his occasional spare time, Andrew can be found playing real tennis or exploring the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, either in running trainers or walking boots.

Apostolos Gkoutzinis joined Council in 2023. He is a partner in the London office of Milbank LLP, a leading global law firm, and runs the firm's European corporate finance and capital markets practice. Apostolos has advised on some of the largest financing transactions in the City of London in the last two decades and is consistently rated as one of the most respected lawyers in his field globally. Apostolos is qualified in England and Wales and the State of New York, and holds legal degrees from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Queen Mary (University of London) and Harvard Law School. Three of his five children have attended Radley College. Apostolos is passionate about educating young boys as the only path to raising intelligent, thoughtful and accomplished adults, with a sense of purposeful mission, true kindness and sincere humility.

Ben Holden is one of the College's longest serving members of staff. He was appointed as a Design Engineering don by Dennis Silk in 1987 and has stayed at Radley ever since. He became Head of Design Engineering and then Tutor of D Social. He was appointed to the Senior Management Team in 2011 and became Sub-Warden in 2014, where he is responsible for safeguarding, pastoral care and our boarding provision. Ben is also the College's Designated Safeguarding Lead. Ben has always coached rowing and continues to play a significant role in our co-curricular provision. He is married to Helen and they have two children, Ruairidh (2018, C) and Sadhbh.

Carole Sweetnam is a former Radley parent who joined Council in July 2021. She is also Vice Chair of Summer Fields, a boarding prep school in Oxford. She is Chair of the Health and Safety Committee. Carole has a BEd in Modern Languages from Homerton College, Cambridge. She taught French and Spanish at secondary schools in London followed by seven years in Paris, where Carole designed and taught English Language courses for children. Carole currently works from her home near Oxford running a property management business as well as her husband's Orthopaedic business.

Cassandra joined the Development Team as Events Co-ordinator in July 2016, and has been able to utilise her meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills when arranging the ever-growing events programme, she also very much enjoys connecting people up. Having worked for eight years as an estate agent, and another eight years within the Criminal Justice Department at Thames Valley Police, Cassandra decided to make a career change. She is pleased that she did! Cassandra is passionate about exercise and she frequents the Radley gym in her spare time, as well as doing a lot of running and walking. She lives in a village half an hour away with her rescue cat and youngest son. She is a foodie, travel and music enthusiast, and enjoys getting together with friends and family for walks, theatre trips, cinema, gigs and meals. Cassandra also has a lesser-known interest in space and the paranormal.

Charles is the Global Head of Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT) in FTI Consulting's Strategic Communications segment. In this role he advises clients on digital transformation and ESG policy. Charles is an Old Radleian and a current parent. He joined Council in July 2021.

Charlie McKegney

Charlie McKegney has been Tutor of D Social since September 2023. After graduating from Loughborough University, Charlie spent seven years at Cheltenham College before coming to Radley in 2016. He was previously Head of Removes and Sub-Tutor in K Social. Outside of Social, Charlie is a keen sportsman and dabbles at a range of sports from golf to real tennis, and he coaches the JC1 rugby and Colts 1 Cricket. Charlie is married to Olly and they have a daughter, Mabel, and a lively cockapoo, Basil.

Charlie Scott-Malden

Charlie Scott-Malden spent a lot of time in Australia and the Caribbean growing up, both of which had a significant influence on his musical and sporting interests. He went to Cheam and Sherborne before reading undergraduate degrees in Politics & Sociology and then in English, after which he studied for a Master's in English Literature at Corpus Christi, Cambridge. This was followed by a move to London to work first in consultancy and then publishing. Charlie is a keen sportsman, coaching the 2nd XI cricket, 3rd XI hockey, and senior squash teams. He lives in B Social with his wife, Sophia, who teaches at St Helen & St Katharine in Abingdon, and their two children, Max and Beatrice - plus their dog Baxter.

Clare has been the full-time archivist at Radley since 2014, having previously been Head of Library and Archives. She has taught Classics and research skills and has been a live-out sub-tutor for A and H Socials. The Archive at Radley includes materials from the estate history, all aspects of school life, and rare books and manuscripts. This can be explored via the digital archive and Clare's blogs. Clare has published on historical bibliography and was a contributor to The Cambridge History of Libraries in Britain and Ireland to 1640. ed. Leedham-Green & Webb (2006). Her most recent books are Untold Stories: Radley College across 175 years (2022), co-author Radley manor and village: a thousand year story (2019) and contributor to Bright the Vision: Public School Missions from the Victorian Age. ed. Tozer (2023).

David Anderson joined Radley College as Estates Bursar in October 2008 bringing twenty years property and construction experience. A Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, David oversees building development, maintenance, grounds and gardens with support from a dedicated team. In January 2023, he launched the College's Sustainability Strategy with an overall goal to become carbon neutral by 2030. David is married to Julia, and they have two children, Matthew (2017, A) and Katie. Away from the College he plays real tennis and golf, both of which he'd like to be better at. With his son, David won the Scottish Real Tennis Doubles Championships in 2022.

David Smellie

David Smellie became Chairman of Council in 2019. He is a Partner at Farrer & Co, a leading commercial law firm, and is consistently rated as one of the top employment and safeguarding lawyers in the country. He advises institutional employers on the discrete handling of potentially high-profile employment cases. Outside of employment law, David provides strategic counsel to leading independent schools and is probably the most experienced safeguarding lawyer in the country. David founded Farrar & Co's Child Protection Unit (now known as the Safeguarding Unit) in 2015 which advises organisations either working or coming into contact with children. These include schools, universities, charities, churches, visitor attractions, sports clubs and the medical sector. David advises on the full range of safeguarding issues, from creating safer systems to handling live cases and carrying out retrospective reviews.

Deborah joined Council in June 2006. She is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, a Trustee of the Radley College Pension and Assurance Scheme, and a member of the Dons' Remuneration Committee. Professionally, she is a Chartered Accountant and a Partner at Wenn Townsend in Oxford. She provides advice to many schools in Oxfordshire, including as Auditor to the Prep Schools trust, as a director of Wychwood School, and as a trustee of the Lynham Education Fund, a small charity connected to the Dragon School.

Dr Ali Hakimi

Dr Ali Hakimi joined the Common Room in September 2011 after completing a PhD in Material Science at Cambridge. For four happy years he was Sub-Tutor of D Social before fulfilling a lifelong dream of living and working abroad as a Housemaster at Marlborough College Malaysia. He returned in 2018 and was delighted to be appointed founding Tutor of L Social. Ali is a keen sportsman with Cambridge Blues in football and real tennis, and he is Master in Charge of Football at Radley. He lives in Social with his wife Laura, an academic at Oxford University, their three children, and Benji, the golden labrador.

Dr Stephen Giddens

Dr Stephen Giddens has been Tutor of C Social since September 2016. He was born and raised in the South Island of New Zealand, where he studied for a BSc in Biological Sciences, a MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a PhD in Molecular Biology. He came to the UK in 2002 to work as a research scientist at Oxford University, where he worked on research projects that explored the evolution of bacteria and the development of a biological fuel cell, before joining the Radley Common Room in 2008. Away from Social and the Biology Department, Dr Giddens can most commonly be found coaching sports teams, mostly squash and football, or cheering on the C Social boys in their activities across the campus. He lives in C Social with his wife, Brigid, their two Radleian sons, and Darwin, the lively springer spaniel.

Elisabeth Anderson

Elisabeth Anderson joined Radley as Development Director in June 2020. She is responsible for realising the Warden's ambitious vision to significantly increase the funding available to ensure we can support talented and ambitious boys who require support with our fees. Elisabeth also oversees the Radleian Society and is eager to strengthen the connections across the Radley community through a busy programme of events for Old Radleians and parents. She was previously Director of Development at Fettes College in Edinburgh and Bryanston School in Dorset. She has been Chairman and a trustee of the Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) and is currently Chair of a primary school in Didcot. Away from Radley, Elisabeth enjoys the theatre, opera and has renewed a childhood passion for model railways.

Gerald Kaye is Chief Executive of Helical, a real estate firm specialising in developing and owning high quality office buildings in Central London. Gerald is a past President of the British Council for Offices, a former Director of London & Edinburgh Trust Plc and former Chief Executive of SPP. LET. EUROPE NV. Gerald's experience at Helical ensures that he has an in-depth knowledge of the Group's operations and markets, which helps him to lead the business, be a key contributor to Board discussions and aid the effective decision making of the Board. He considers stakeholder engagement to be a crucial aspect of his role given its impact on the long-term success of Helical, and he therefore spends considerable time engaging with Helical's major shareholders, visiting the Group's properties and development sites and maintaining extensive relationships in the property industry.

Graham King

Graham King was appointed Tutor of G Social in September 2016. Born and raised in South Africa, Graham has fond memories of his time at a boys' boarding school which explains his love for the all-round education Radley provides. He studied Geography at Stellenbosch University and spent five years teaching at Cape Town before moving to the UK to teach at Bedford School. Graham spent many happy years running the hockey club at Radley and continues to coach the Colts, as well as teams across the range of sports. Graham lives in G Social with his wife, Clare, and their three children.

Harry Crump was appointed Deputy Head (Co-Curricular) in September 2023. Harry read Law at Edinburgh and English Literature at The Open University. He came to Radley in 2004 and became Tutor of D Social in 2011. In his role as Deputy Head, Harry is responsible for the success and development of our co-curricular programme and the management of the College calendar. In addition to teaching English, Harry coaches hockey, tennis, basketball and lacrosse, and plays violin in the College orchestra. He is married to Hattie, who teaches at a local prep school, and they have three children.

Henry joined the Development Team in April 2019. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Radley Foundation, including managing fundraising appeals and events, relationships with donors and the creation of the annual Impact Report. Henry started his Development career at The Queen's College, Oxford and has previously sat on the Executive Committee for St Hilda's Oxford Association of Senior Members. He enjoys fitness, cooking and wine tasting … although he is no expert at any! Henry lives half the year at Radley and half in Shropshire with his partner and Labrador cross, Sunday.

Henry Morris is an Investment Director at Caledonia Investments plc. Previously, he spent 13 years at Goldman Sachs as an equity research analyst, and subsequently at Chilton Investment Company. Henry rowed for Oxford in the University Boat Race 2003-2004, Isis (Oxford reserve crew) in 2002/05, Great Britain at the U23 World Champs in 2002 and was a winner at Henley Royal Regatta in 2010. He joined Council in December 2019 as the Radleian Society nominee. He is a member of the General Purposes Committee and Nomination Committee, a trustee and former President (2011-2017) of the Radleian Mariners Charitable Trust.

John Moule Warden

John Moule became Warden of Radley College in September 2014. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the College, the appointment of staff and is the figurehead for boys, staff, parents and the wider community. John is married to Diana, also a teacher, and they have three children: Emily, Ben and Rachael. His interests include: a pathological commitment to armchair sports viewing, the theatre, membership of a local church, reading (political biography, theology, crime novels and P.G. Wodehouse for preference) and playing golf.

John Nugee is an independent commentator and public speaker on financial, economic and political issues, with an extensive background in the official sector and over 30 years practical experience of training and capacity building in public sector finance and investment management. He currently lectures in Politics and Economics at St Mary's University, Twickenham, and is also an advisor to a number of pension funds, investment funds and policy think-tanks. A liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Weavers, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), and an enthusiastic trombone player, John is the author of a number of books. He is an Old Radleian and joined Council in August 2022.

Jonathan Porter was appointed Deputy Head (Academic) in September 2023. After Oundle, he read Theology at Peterhouse, Cambridge and completed the Teach First programme. He became a founding member of staff at Michaela in Wembley, North West London, the top school in the country for academic progress. He became Head of Humanities and Deputy Head before leaving for some further study. Jonathan is responsible for the academic life of the school in its entirety and ensuring every Radleian is equipped with the knowledge, skills and mindset to thrive beyond our gates. He is married to Claire and they have a son, Matthew.

Julie Fletcher was appointed as Finance Director at Radley in November 2016. She qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 1995 and held a number of senior roles in buy and build organisations and in manufacturing, before entering the charity sector in 2010. Lucy joined the Development team in 2013 as Personal Assistant to the Development Director, later moving to the role of Foundation Executive in 2016. As Foundation Executive, she focuses on "donor stewardship," ensuring that Foundation donors are updated on the impact of their incredible generosity through methods such as personalised reports, interviews, short films, events and written pieces for the Impact Report. Lucy values the opportunity to directly witness how the generosity of individuals can profoundly impact not only the intended recipients, but also generate positive ripples that extend to others. Prior to joining Radley, Lucy worked in London as Personal Assistant to the Editorial Director at Time Inc. In 2006, she moved to Oxfordshire, taking on the role of Personal Assistant to the Headmaster at The Manor Preparatory School in Abingdon. In her free time, Lucy is mostly found taxiing her two teenagers around, but she finds true happiness in going to the theatre, country walks and baking.

Mark is Head of Investment Management at City Asset Management. Previously he was CEO of Walker Crips Investment Management after stints at UBS, Cazenove and BNP Paribas. He joined Council in December 1996 and is a member of the General Purposes Committee and a former Chair of the Investment Committee. He serves on the board of the University of Buckingham and is a trustee of a medical research foundation.

Mary Breen was Headmistress of St Mary's Ascot for more than twenty years. Previously, she was Head of Physics at Eton College and taught at Wellington College and The Abbey School, Reading. She has served as a Governor at six schools, and is a Member of the Charters School Board. She has been a member of the Girls' Schools Association (GSA) Inspections Committee and Boarding Committee, the Committee of the Catholic Independent Schools Conference (CISC) and the National Committee of the HMC - The Heads' Conference (HMC). Mary has delivered sessions on strategic planning, development campaigns, sustaining leadership and preparing for headship at GSA, HMC and CISC new heads and national conferences and has spoken at the Boarding Schools Association (BSA) national conference. She is now Schools Adviser at Farrar & Co., where works alongside Farrer's team of education and safeguarding lawyers to provide advice, support and guidance on parental complaints, serious incident reviews and staff recruitment.

Matt Glendon-Doyle has been Tutor of K Social since September 2018. He read Classics at Corpus Christi, Cambridge and spent seven years as an investment banker before making a vocational switch to teaching. Following two terms at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand and two years at Canford School, he came to Radley in September 2014. Matt is actively involved in all aspects of College life; as a sports coach and with the Duke of Edinburgh programme. He was previously Master in Charge of Charities and oversaw Catholic chaplaincy. Matt lives in K Social with his wife, Rosie, their three children, Hebe, Peggy and Patrick, and their Jack Russell, Jasper.

Niall Murphy joined the Common Room in 1993 after studying History at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He has been Head of History, H Social Resident Sub-Tutor and was the first Tutor of K Social before being appointed as Senior Master (Co-Curricular) in 2015. He was named as the 24th Sub-Warden of Radley College from September 2024, where he will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the College and act as the champion of our ethos across the whole community. Niall is married to Ros and they have two children, Niamh (2018, C) and Fintan (V, L Social). Away from the College, he enjoys coaching and playing sport, all things Irish, the Gower Peninsula and the wines and culture of Languedoc-Roussillon and Catalonia.

Nick Wood was appointed Tutor of H Social in September 2023; he has the unique honour of serving as Tutor of the Social in which he spent five years as a boy (1996-2001). After flourishing during his time at Radley, Nick went to Brasenose College, Oxford to study Spanish and German before deciding to pursue a career in professional rugby. After spending fifteen years playing for Gloucester - becoming the first to make 200 Premiership appearances for the club and retiring as the club's most capped player of the professional era - Nick returned to Radley in 2016, taking over as Master i/c Rugby the following year. Alongside rugby, Nick is an historian, having made a disciplinary switch when completing his studies. He has a particular interest in the first half of Europe's twentieth century, and he enjoys teaching the Shell and iGCSE courses in the History Department. In his spare time, Nick enjoys reading (typically something historically themed) and spending time with his wife Kate, and their three children, Oscar, Alice and Effie.

After Shrewsbury School, Edinburgh University and Christ Church Canterbury, Richard Hughes became Head of Geography at a prep school in Oxford. He quickly realised that he wanted to work in a Senior School and came to Radley in 2013 as Resident Sub-Tutor in A Social. He loved it so much that he couldn't leave and became Tutor in September 2020. Growing up in the Lake District, Geography and Geology were natural subject choices and Richard enjoys leading field trips across the country and around the world. Richard lives in A Social with his wife, Kate, and their three children Oscar, Theo and Lily.

Robert Warner is a chartered accountant, experienced finance director and non-executive director. He joined Council in December 2009 and is a member of the General Purposes Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, Senior Salaries Sub-Committee and Dons' Remuneration Committee. He launched ‘FD on tap' consultancy service in 2003 but his main role until retiring was as Finance Director and Company Secretary of Neptune Investment Management. He now acts as part-time CFO for a number of start-up companies and has various non-executive and trustee roles. Robert still plays competitive squash, less competitive real tennis and wishes he had more time for sailing.

Roger Shaw

Roger Shaw joined the Common Room in 1992 after reading Mathematics at Corpus Christi, Oxford. He left briefly to be Head of Mathematics at The King's School in Chester but returned to Radley in 2003. During his time at Radley he has been Head of Exams, Master in Charge of Community Partnerships, Tutor of C Social and Senior Master. In his current role of Deputy Head (Systems) he is responsible for the timetable, database, ICT systems, data analysis, staff induction, policies, and inspection preparation. Away from the College, Roger is an avid cyclist and recently completed a 2,400km cycle from Radley to Romania in support of The British Red Cross. He is married to Simona, and they have two sons, Andrew (2015, H) and Jamie (2018, H).

Roland joined the Development Team in January 2024. He is responsible for the database, ensuring records of those connected to Radley are kept up to date and that gifts are processed correctly. In addition, he has the task of providing insight into where the Foundation should be focussing its efforts in the coming years. Previously, Roland worked in Supply Chain Analytics at Tesco and Product Analytics at Uber, the latter of which being based in Amsterdam for four years. He is passionate about fitness and spends most of his spare time training for triathlons.

Sarah Ballard has worked in Human Resources since 2000 and joined Radley as Head of HR in 2004. With the support of a small team, she is responsible for the recruitment, retention and training of more than 500 members of staff. Previously, Sarah spent 20 years working for an international firm of chartered accountants. She is a keen scuba diver and regularly spends her holidays under water in far flung lands, including the Maldives, Galapagos Islands and Egypt.

Born and bred in a boarding school, three generations of Sophie's family were educated at Radley - her father, brother and son - so she was delighted to be appointed Director of Admissions and Communications in September 2020. Previously she was Director of Admissions at Wycombe Abbey and Director of Admissions and External Relations at Magdalen College School, Oxford. Sophie spent her early career in corporate finance and as a broadcast journalist at Sky News. Away from Radley, Sophie enjoys the theatre, opera, choir and running. She lives in Oxford and has two children in their twenties, Phoebe and Paddy (2013, A), a former Senior Prefect.

Sophie joined the Development Team in March 2022. She works across both the Radleian Society and the Radley Foundation, creating printed and digital communications to engage the Radley community. She is the editor of the annual Old Radleian alumni magazine and is responsible for the monthly e-newsletter and event bulletin. Previously, Sophie worked in Engagement and Events at the University of Oxford for 15 years. This included roles at the Bodleian Libraries, Botanic Garden, and Ashmolean Museum. She is passionate about bringing collections and institutions to life for their audiences. She enjoys learning about everything from medieval history to exogeology, and is happiest when outside studying trees, looking at stars or collecting fossils.

Tom Norton

Tom Norton Tutor of F Social After boarding at Dorset House and Downside, Tom Norton studied Modern and Ancient History at Somerville College, Oxford. He was sponsored through the Royal Marines and served for eight years which included tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. Whilst on loan to Sandhurst as an instructor, he realised his passion was mentoring young people and he decided to swap careers. He taught Classics and History at Wellington College for four years, where he also ran the CCF and was an assistant housemaster before coming to Radley in 2013. He plays a full and active role in the co-curricular life of the College, coaching sports, playing in ensembles and instructing in the CCF. Tom became Tutor of F Social in September 2021, where he lives with his wife, Alice, and their three children, Peter, Benedict, and Alexander.
