GLEBE HOUSING ASSOCIATION

Built in the grounds of Glebe House, Bencurtis Park has witnessed many changes and improvements since its inception in 1974. The House, originally church property, belonged to Colonel and Mrs Chamberlain who showed great interest in and compassion for the wellbeing of older people in the local area. In 1966 they gave some land to the West Wickham Old Peoples Welfare Committee on which 19 bedsit flats were built and which today is the site of Glebe Court Nursing Home in Glebe Way. When the Colonel died, Mrs Chamberlain offered the house and estate for purchase by a local charitable organisation that would use it for the benefit of older people in the community and as a result Glebe Housing Association was formed. Glebe House is a Grade II listed building and today houses the Administration Office... Our aim is to support and sustain a thriving community so that people can live life to the full in their later years... We are a not for profit community based housing association..
