Adam McPartland

One of the leading design focused directors in the practice, Adam works closely with GNA's clients, developing briefs, working with complex constraints and creating exciting new visions. Leading our residential, commercial and regeneration team he is passionate about the implementation of the latest technology, vibrant placemaking and fostering culture and community in the practice's designs. Recently working with Wolverhampton City Council, Adam has been an intrinsic part of the process of planning and delivering a 20-year regeneration and development vision for the city. Working closely with community and local authority stakeholders Adam brought his experience in concept generation and graphical communication to help achieve the city's urban ambitions. Adam also brings extensive on-project experience and expertise designing and delivering schemes of significant scale across a variety of sectors. He brings comprehensive specialist knowledge of tall building architecture and high-density housing, promoting a pragmatic and collaborative creative process to prioritise conscientious, cutting edge and best value design. Adam has been invited twice to be a guest speaker at the National Tall Building Conference sharing his insights into the challenges and his methodology of designing and delivering major Midlands based tall building projects.

Aidan Astle

Aidan is a confident and proficient Architect with almost a decade's experience working at Glancy Nicholls. In January 2022, he was promoted to Associate. Aidan has a passion for innovation and placemaking, applying his knowledge across all project scales from large masterplanning projects to the technical detailing of smaller schemes. He also has a specialism in Sustainability, heading up GNA's Sustainability group, advising on Passivhaus principles and helping to drive the practice's green agenda. Aidan currently leads a team working on several key masterplanning and regeneration projects across the West Midlands. Recently, his role has seen him design and deliver several high-quality projects within the higher education and residential sectors. He ensures all his designs are embedded in their context, working hard to understand the history and spirit of a place to create sustainable communities.

Andrew Hassell

With over 20 years experience, Andrew is a passionate, versatile, and talented designer, with a passion for the education sector. He has designed and delivered a variety of projects including new build, refurbishment, and extensions, within primary, secondary and SEN schools as well as further/higher education facilities. Throughout the process, Andrew actively champions good design focused on quality and sustainability, utilising his knowledge from his role in our internal sustainability group, and is very adapt in presenting ideas to a wide range of audience. Andrew is a strong believer that great collaboration has great outcomes. He promotes engagement with clients, users and stakeholders, helping to bring everyone involved on the project journey and creating a shared vision. He is also responsible for the coordination of multi-disciplinary teams, having collaborated and delivered exciting yet pragmatic designs, managing projects across all RIBA work stages including delivering projects on site and providing client technical advisory roles. As part of the management team, Andrew is responsible for the professional and efficient running of the studio, with a particular focus on quality assurance and resourcing. He is also involved in internal design reviews, where he is central to establishing a design culture of shared ideas, open dialogue and critical debate, promoting creative influences from within and outside the construction industry.

Danielle Swann

Danielle is a talented designer with extensive experience spanning 15 years in the Construction Industry. She has designed and delivered award-winning projects across a range of sectors, including Residential, Healthcare, Cultural and Education, and manages a team delivering both new-build and refurbishment projects. Danielle also works closely with the Bid Team, utilising her knowledge and innovative approach to secure future projects across sectors. Danielle has a creative and methodical approach to design. She believes that architecture should improve the quality of life and wellbeing of all and has developed a particular specialism in inclusive design and dementia-friendly spaces. Designing with the user's experience in mind, her holistic approach creates positive and inspiring environments that stand the test of time.

Emma Glover

At GNA Emma champions design and engagement led approach. She works closely with clients listening to their aspirations and ensuring they are part of the design journey. This integrated approach has given her a wealth of experience through both the design and construction stages delivering projects across various sectors including Education, Extra-Care, Residential and Industrial. Emma was instrumental in delivering an innovative project for the University of Birmingham. The experiment came with complex site and delivery requirements, to ensure minimal impact on the site parts of the construction was delivered and installed from above via helicopters. ‘To every difficult problem lies an ingenious solution that may require a different perspective' this approach was adopted by Emma and ensured the successful delivery of the project. This has been central to establishing a shared culture in the studio and embedded within lessons learnt. Emma plays a leading part in the management team and champions staff welfare within the office being the face of GNA that staff can talk to.

Jenny Scanlon

As office manager and PA to multiple directors Jenny is a valued member of the GNA team. With prior experience in hospitality and front-of-house management, as well as in the planning events industry, she is an integral asset in ensuring the office runs smoothly. Jenny assists management with day-to-day HR support, recruitment, staff welfare, finance and quality assurance alongside maintaining the everyday administrative work across all teams. She is also a qualified representative for staff welfare and works to ensure the office is a positive environment for all employees. Jenny's approachable nature and initiative enables us to provide a consistent high-level of service to our clients.

John White

John enjoys working closely with clients to develops solutions of both design and construction elements. He has extensive knowledge in the Industrial and logistic sectors and plays a vital part in driving the practice forward and providing a exemplar service to the long standing clients John heads up GNA's expert Industrial team, utilising his strong leadership and robust approach to deliver high-quality and efficient projects for clients. Working closely with clients to develop strong relationships, John ensures their projects are delivered on time and to high standard maintaining the concept designs. With over 30 years' experience in the construction industry, he has built up a vast knowledge of technical construction experience covering the majority of building sectors. Such experience has included a range of projects varying from delivering schemes from small, complex refurbishments to large-scale, significant masterplans.

Lauren Cartledge

Lauren is an integral part of the management team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the office alongside assisting the directors with diary management. Having been in the industry for almost 8 years and starting off her career as a Receptionist before being promoted to her current role as Office Manager, Lauren is a valued and knowledgeable member of the GNA studio. Lauren works closely with the directors to assist with staff welfare, finance and quality assurance and performs everyday administrative work across all teams. Her role also includes managing the administration team by working closely and communicating daily to ensure tasks have been met. She hopes that she can continue to enlighten her knowledge for the role and the construction industry over the next few years.

Lisa Deering

Lisa's passion for Architecture stems from her ambition to design meaningful developments that improve the user experience. Lisa has extensive knowledge in working with both public and private sectors. She has led projects with a masterplanning and regeneration focus across a range of sectors Residential, Commercial, Education, Health Care and Leisure. This experience has cemented her understanding in how to create successful mixed-use developments and fueled her desire to achieve quality design across both macro and micro scale. Lisa's technique establishes a close working relationship with clients from the outset to understand their brief and vision. This pragmatic approach has aided in the delivery of quality designs that fulfil clients' aspirations.

Lyndon Glancy - Founder

A Founding Director of Glancy Nicholls Architects, Lyndon established the Birmingham-based practice in 2004. He had a desire to develop the landscape of cities and their place in producing well-considered buildings; something which stills stands true today. With over three decades of experience and a specialism in designing spaces for inner city living, Lyndon has helped enrich communities and the built environment both on his doorstep in Birmingham and further afield across the UK. Working in collaboration with Local Authorities and a breadth of public and private institutions, Lyndon has helped implement numerous masterplans and regeneration initiatives, bringing his clients' vision for change to life. Lyndon has a real passion for progressive transformation and truly believes that through high quality and sustainable architecture, along with well-designed external spaces, we can have a direct and positive impact on people's wellbeing. Lyndon is passionate about delivering for existing communities and raising the aspiration for those neighbourhoods whilst integrating local cultures, businesses, and residents to ensure a sustainable future for the project. He is experienced in designing complex inner-city schemes, from high-rise residential buildings, to delivering on the Government's levelling up strategy and bringing forward transformational regeneration schemes. Lyndon's passion for his projects is infectious; something which has helped shape the vibrant studio culture that has been evident from day one at Glancy Nicholls.

His appreciation of the challenges of individual projects affords Martin the opportunity to create quality designs that are imaginative whilst considering best value and operations. Martin has over twenty years' expertise designing and delivering projects across a variety of sectors. He has a comprehensive specialist knowledge of education projects and his ability to empathise with our clients helps unlock complex projects whilst raising aspirations for clients and end users.

Nick's quality asset is his meticulous approach to each design project. He has acquired over 20years experience in the construction industry across a wide range of projects and sectors. Specifically, he has delivered RIBA, MacEwen award winning Meadow View Community Care Centre for a repeat client demonstrating his abilities and high-quality service. Nick thrives upon providing innovative strategies whilst working on challenging technical design briefs, ensuring client's expectations are met and exceeded. He has built a portfolio of experience across all design stages and complexity levels, including healthcare, Residential and Industrial. He is now leading the way in advocating his strategy and methods of working across the practice. Nick is a founding member of the BIM/IT team within the practice and utilises his hardware and software knowledge to drive the practice forward.

Pat Nicholls - Founder

Pat Nicholls is a founding Director of Glancy Nicholls Architects (GNA), with 30 years' experience in successfully delivering outstanding projects in a number of sectors. He is passionate about design and architecture, his strength being in the creation of excellent designs which are realised through fine detailing and a contextual, considered response to achieve inspirational and high quality buildings. This approach has resulted in a large number of architecture and construction awards. He is recognised throughout the construction industry for ensuring Glancy Nicholls Architects deliver a high quality, reliable design led service to clients across the whole of the UK. Pat has a friendly and open approach to projects, ensuring the design and construction process is extremely enjoyable for all. He promotes a whole-team ethos and commitment to strive for excellence in every project. Pat plays an integral part in all GNA operations and procedures alongside the excellent management team, including the company's financial management. As well as ensuring the long-term success of GNA he also takes an active role in all projects, through staff resourcing, attending design and technical reviews to visiting sites during construction and client liaison. Pat has a keen interest in design for people living with dementia and is one of the UK's leading architects working in this sector. He has won numerous awards for his projects including two RIBA Regional awards and the RIBA MacEwan award in 2018. Most recently, Pat provided expert witness services, advising the All-Party Parliamentary Group on their 2021 White Paper regarding housing for people living with dementia, which includes exemplar projects designed and delivered by Pat and his team.

Paul Hutt

An equity Director with over 30 years' experience, and an acknowledged leader in designing for those living with dementia, Paul has presented at various industry events and has received numerous accreditations for developments he has been involved with. Paul works predominately in the ‘care' sector including Health, Residential and Social care. He heads up a team of talented designers and technical staff responsible for delivering positive change within this sector. To ensure the team consistently create high-quality schemes, Paul utilises his comprehensive knowledge in various other sectors including residential, student accommodation, education, and mixed use. Paul's passion for the positive effect the built form has on enhancing the socio-economic impact for local communities ensures scheme are developed successfully, whilst his leadership style is thorough and methodical. He has developed a particular interest in designing buildings for those living with dementia and the effect environments can have on residents' outcomes. Assisting Stirling University, some fifteen years ago, to develop a set of exemplar standards; he has subsequently completed a number of buildings that have achieved their stringent ‘Gold' standard for dementia-friendly design.

Simon Jesson

Simon has a wealth of experience in the delivery and construction of complex schemes, having designed and delivered high-performing, inspirational buildings for over 25 years. He has a passion for quality design and has a practical and collaborative approach which fosters a level of trust and synergy with our wide range of clients in the Education and Commercial sectors. Within the studio, Simon heads-up GNA's skilled Higher Education team working with a number of Local and National University clients, and delivers high profile, award-winning schemes. With a specialism in sustainability he has the experience and drive to deliver low energy design, working with the design team to explore the potential for cost-effective, low energy performance solutions which reflect the Client's vision and which are deliverable on site. Simon is ambitious and enthusiastic, with a passion for the technical aspects of a scheme, resolving complex and intricate details to achieve an elegant simplicity. He has a practical approach to design and finds enjoyment in seeking out creative solutions to deliver the quality of space and specification our clients demand.
