Alex Attwood

Alex graduated with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol in July 2013 and joined Edenvale Young Associates shortly afterwards. Throughout his career at Edenvale Young, he has undertaken a wide range of roles which includes hydraulic modeller, designer, project manager and since 2019, an associate level role as Operations Director. He has successfully worked with a wide range of clients and stakeholders including; architects, housing developers, local authorities and the Environment Agency in order to provide sustainable design solutions to address issues of flood risk. Alex's technical and managerial skills were formally recognised when he became a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2020. More recently his expertise in both engineering and flood risk has allowed him assess the flood risk impacts of a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) for both the Temporary and Permanent Works designs. Claire Wasiak

Claire is an experienced Chartered Civil Engineer, who specialises in Flood Risk Management and River and Coastal Engineering. She has experience of working on a range of Environment Agency framework, Local Authority and private sector projects which include catchment strategies, project appraisal studies, surface water management plans, flood risk assessments, flood forecasting models and flood risk mapping studies. Between Jun 2009 & Sep 2013 Claire took a lead role at Edenvale Young (EVY) as a specialist hydraulic modeller, with responsibilities for project management, quality assurance and IT systems. Since leaving EVY, Claire has further developed her skills and is now director of her own company CHW Engineering Ltd and is one of our highly valued consultants.

Clive Onions

Clive is a civil engineer with over 45 years' experience, 35 years with the leading Consulting Engineers Arup, where he was Associate Director responsible for a team of over 40 staff engaged in civil engineering. Clive's role involved technical reviews of many and varied projects.

Colette Linehan

Job Titles:

Colette joined Edenvale Young in November 2013 after 13 years working at Sustrans. As our Practice Administrator, Colette is not generally directly involved in project work, although she has occasionally provided project support by building the material layers needed for hydraulic modelling, utilising GIS tools to follow land cover information from aerial photographs. Direct involvement in projects is generally based around facilitating training events and conferences.

Daniel Boulden

Daniel is a Senior Engineer who since qualifying in 2009, has gained experience working in the fields of fluvial and coastal engineering and maritime engineering. More recently Daniel's work has focused on river restoration, fish pass design and natural flood risk management with an emphasis on detailed engineering design and detailing. During this time Daniel has worked for a range of different clients with the majority of his work being undertaken for the Environment Agency, Rivers Trusts, contractors and private clients. Daniel is a Senior Engineer with 10 years experience in flood alleviation, including optioneering, economic assessment and detailed design. He ask designed maritime structures including flood defence structures and his experience also extends into the design of Natrual Flood Risk Management (NFRM) schemes.

Daniel Jimenez Quinones

Daniel joined Edenvale Young in February 2016 after graduating with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from University of Cordoba (Andalusia, Spain). Dr Chris Whitlow

Dr Chris Whitlow is an expert in hydrometeorology, water quality, sediment transport and hydraulic modelling with more than 35 years postgraduate experience. Arguably his primary claim to fame is associated with the development of the ISIS (now Flood Modeller) software which is still the main software used to simulate river channels in the UK. Chris has also published more than 30 technical papers and acted as a reviewer for the ASCE Hydraulics Division, the International Association of Hydraulic Research and the ICE Journal. He has also worked as a research fellow with the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham and supervised or examined postgraduate level research at the University of Leeds, the Open University and the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering in Delft. Historically he was appoint to be a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council College where he reviewed research application and reports. Chris is also an experienced expert witness, having completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon course, and appeared in the High Court in November 2017 on behalf of the National Farmers Union.

Dr Gerald Morgan

Gerald Morgan is an internationally recognised hydraulic modeller who has extensive experience working with a wide variety of computational models in one, two and three dimensions. He is expert in the underlying computational processes and has written computational models for internal project use. Gerald's PhD from the University of Bath was awarded in 2012 for the verification of the three-dimensional OpenFOAM CFD library for civil engineering problems, including wave impact on offshore structures, simulation of rock armour and overtopping of flood defence structures. Since starting work for Edenvale Young/John Young Associates in 2005, Gerald has written the calibre software which permits the automatic joint calibration of hydraulic and hydrological models, including ISIS, ESTRY, TUFLOW, FEH, ReFH, MCRM and PDM. He has also written a HEC-RAS to ISIS Converter (HECTIC) and a wide variety of other programs for the automation and processing of hydraulic models.

Dr Sara Liguori

Sara studied Environmental Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) for 5 years, undertaking a variety of units, including water treatment, sewage and solid waste treatment and environmental hydraulics. She graduated in 2006 and worked as Environmental Consultant in Naples before moving to Bristol to undertake a PhD in Civil Engineering, graduating in September 2011. Sara's main area of research has been the assessment of the uncertainty in data and models used in hydro-meteorological forecasting. She has focused in particular on the processing of weather radar rainfall estimates and on the implementation of short-term deterministic and probabilistic rainfall forecasts in flood forecasting. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and disseminated her research outputs at various international conferences. Sara worked as research assistant in Civil Engineering until 2012, when she joined the School of Geographical Sciences for a two years lectureship in Hydrology. During this time, she taught several courses, including hydrology, river hydraulics and hydro-meteorological forecasting. Sara Liguori is a hydrologist and hydrometeorologist / environmental scientist with skills in hydraulic modelling and hydrology and specifically in probabilistic rainfall, applied meteorology and flow forecasting. Her published research has been peer reviewed and her research presented at various international conferences. She is also a member of the Hydrological Ensemble Prediction Experiment (Hepex) community.

Harry McKenna

Harry joined Edenvale Young in 2019 and is a senior hydraulic modeller undertaking fluvial and direct rainfall modelling using FMP and ESTRY-TUFLOW to complete a wide range of projects. Harry has specific experience in FRA's, fish bypass channel design optioneering and fully-integrated direct rainfall models incorporating rainfall, soils and surface water drainage systems in order to assess the effectiveness of SuDS and NFM. Harry has recently stepped into Project Management roles, leading flood risk assessments, managing graduate modellers and liaising with clients in order to meet projects scope, budgets and deadlines. This has involved working with a variety of clients from surveyors, utility providers, individual developers and Rivers Trusts to larger organisations such as the EA, NRW and local councils. John Young

John is a chartered civil engineer with over 30 years' experience working with developers, the Environment Agency, Local Authorities, consultants and water companies. During his career he has, and continues to work, on projects in Ireland, the Philippines, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Chile, Hong Kong and the Caribbean (Nevis, St Lucia and Grenada). Between 2010 and 2013, John was a Royal Academy of Engineers & Ove Arup Foundation lecturer at the University of Bath (UK). He lectured in river and coastal engineering and was responsible for the Industrial Design Project for a period of four years which is a major element of the 4th year undergraduate Masters course at Bath University. John is also responsible for organising the bi-annual TUFLOW conferences on behalf of BMT who are the authors of the modelling software. This conference includes two days of presentations, workshops and discussions on the use of the software. The last conference was held in April 2018 with a theme of natural flood risk management.

Maria Jarquin

Maria is an ICE Chartered Civil Engineer, who obtained a MSc Degree in Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Development from UNESCO-IHE, Delft. She started her career in hydraulic design and hydropower in the Electricity Company of Costa Rica (ICE) and continued developing her skills in Edenvale Young Associates Ltd as a Civil Engineer and Hydraulic Modeller. Maria is currently based in Carcassonne, France where she works as a private consultant. Maria Jarquin is a chartered Civil Engineer with nearly 20 years experience in her field and a MastersDegree in Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Development.

Nigel Wright

Professer Nigel Wright joined us in March 2022 and brings with him a wealth of vaulable knowledge and experience. At Edenvale Young he is using his experience in the management of research and knowledge to support consultancy for a range of clients. We are also at an evolutionary phase of our development and Nigel will be working with colleagues on the future development of the company. Nigel has extensive experience of conducting research and winning funding internationally. This encompasses internationally-leading publications and impact in practice.

Pavel Diptan

Pavel Diptan joined Edenvale Young as a Graduate Hydraulic Modeller in February 2015, a year after graduating with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol. Since joining the company in 2015 Pavel has become the company's in-house surveyor with a valid ‘PfCO' (Permission for Commercial UAV Operations). He has undertaken a number of traditional topographic and photogrammetric drone surveys around the UK including post-processing of survey data and design using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Pix4D and OpenDroneMap. He is also the key provider of training in Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and ESTRY as well as scripting using bash, awk, gnuplot and a range of other tools. Related projects are shown below. Peter Aylett
