Amy Marchment RVN

Amy joined Barton Lodge in 2014, having always wanted to work with animals since leaving school. Her keen interest in animals is clear, as she has a variety of cats and dogs, and also owns a horse. Amy has successfully completed her VN course and became a qualified RVN in January 2020.

Carly York RVN

Carly joined our team in October 2005. She successfully followed the VN course and became a fully qualified RVN in January 2009. Carly is a member of the Senior nurse team responsible for running the Nurse Clinics, Nurse Training and Puppy Parties. She also has main responsibility for the practice laboratory. She has a little dog called Tess. She now has a young dog called Rupert who is a roan Cocker Spaniel and also a cat called Millie. Carly got married to husband Ben in 2017 and is now Carly York.

Caroline Whiddett

Caroline has been our Practice Administrator since 2002 and deals with many varied Barton Lodge administration and financial duties. When Caroline left school her first job was as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse. She qualified in 1977 and worked as a veterinary nurse with Mr Southerton's practice in Hemel Hempstead for 5 years. Apart from several years spent at home caring for her children Caroline worked mainly in administrative roles including 10 years as IT support staff in a large secondary school. In summer 2006, Caroline gained her Veterinary Practice Administration Certificate.

Christina Harn RVN

Christina joined us in Summer 2007. After studying the VN course she successfully qualified as a fully trained nurse in June 2010. Christina has become a Senior Nurse and shares responsibility for the Nurse Clinics, Nurse Training and Puppy Parties. She also co-ordinates the all important ordering of medicines and supplies. She has a cat called Misty who was one of three tiny kittens found abandoned and brought to Barton Lodge. Christina is very fond of cats and in 2017 gained her ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing, which has expanded her knowledge of cat health, welfare and behaviour.

Hester Small VN

Hester joined us in November 2010. She returned to work with us after previously training and qualifying as a veterinary nurse at Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre in 1993. Since that time Hester continued to work part-time in a veterinary practice in London where she gained much experience. Hester uses her broad knowledge and skills whilst working in the administration team and also sometimes on reception where she enjoys meeting all the clients.

José Real

José is a graduate of Córdoba Veterinary School. After a career pathway in different veterinary fields, he came to the UK to work on behalf of the FSA (Food Standard Agency), where he gathered knowledge of animal welfare standards and public health in various food processing establishments. Thereafter, José worked in a mixed practice, but he much more enjoyed the small animal side of it. José is interested both in small animal medicine and surgery, and is enjoying all aspects of daily practice. After work, he enjoys spending time with his friends and loved ones, as well as cooking, painting, and hiking whenever the gets a chance.

Judith Sanger RVN

Judith is a long-standing member of staff who first came to Barton Lodge in 1998 as a work placement student whilst studying for her Animal Care Diploma at Oaklands College. On completion of her Diploma she joined Barton Lodge full-time in 1999. She undertook her veterinary nursing qualification and is now a Senior RVN. Judith is also a Clinical Coach which allows her to train and assess student nurses. Judith helps to organise and run the Nurse Clinics and Puppy Parties. She also has the main admin responsibility for dealing with the Pet Insurance claim forms. Judith has a cat called Squirt, whom she adopted as a stray and more recently acquired another cat, Frank when he was a kitten. She also has a horse called Letty.

Juliet Penaliggon

Juliet is a graduate of Bristol Veterinary School and joined Barton Lodge in 2019. She has a particular interest in preventative healthcare and internal medicine. Outside of work, Juliet enjoys spending time with her family, including their black Labrador Retriever Isla and family cat Dylan.

Nicci Hawes RVN

Nicci has been our dedicated Head Nurse since 1997. She has been nominated again as Pet Plan Nurse of the Year 2017 and has received nominations in previous years. Nicci was a student veterinary nurse at Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre when she first left school and achieved her VN qualification in 1992. She gained wide experience by working at The Royal Veterinary College and then at another veterinary practice before returning to Barton Lodge in 1997. She has overall responsibility for our Nurse Team and organises and runs the Nurse Clinics and Puppy Parties. She is particularly interested in pet behaviour issues and runs clinics were she can be consulted by clients to give help and advice about their pets problems. Outside work she is involved with a local running club, Gade Valley Harriers. She has succesfully completed the London Marathon seven times and competes in local cross country and road runs. She also enjoys attending a local gym. Nicci has had many pets, all of which have been adopted through her work. Scrumpie, Widget and Gypsie enjoyed accompanying her during her training runs. She now has 2 lurchers called Bella and Sadie. She also has 3 cats, Neno, Soames and Kwasi plus her tortoise Emma. She sometimes takes her pets into schools where she has given pet care talks which are very well received. Nicci has two children, Sam and Charlotte.

Pedro-Martín Bartolomé

Pedro-Martin has been the Clinical Director at Barton Lodge since 2017. He attended the University of Zaragoza (Spain), College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his Veterinary Medicine degree in 1986. After arriving in the UK in 1990, he initially worked at a busy PDSA hospital for 5 years before moving into private small animal practice. Pedro-Martin is a very experienced and dedicated veterinary surgeon. His main interests are dentistry and surgery, performing complicated soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures. Animal welfare and ethics are hugely important to him and he always treats all pets as his own For many years, Pedro-Martín has been heavily involved with the running of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA), where he has been chair of the Metropolitan region and chair of PetSavers (BSAVA's charity), among other positions of responsibility. He is also a member of the British Veterinary Dental Association (BVDA) and British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association (BVOA). Pedro-Martin is the proud owner of a dog and a cat.
