Alasdair joined Barter Hill in 2015 as an apprentice and has developed his skills and experience whilst working at the company for the past 8 years, obtaining a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering in July 2020 and being promoted to the role of Senior Civil Engineer in April 2022. Alasdair has experience leading large development projects, using 3D modelling in Site3D and drainage analysis using MicroDrainage software. He is looking to continue his professional education with the company by seeking chartership status.Aside from work, Alasdair enjoys a number of outdoor pursuits, including travelling internationally with his wife, camping, rock climbing, snow skiing and water skiing, which Alasdair competes in. His favourite discipline is jumping, with Alasdair having a current personal best of 39.7m and ranking as the 8th best male jumper in the UK.
Craig has been in the construction industry for 18 years, starting as a bricklayer on site, and then challenging himself to complete a Civil Engineering degree and now finds himself working within the Civils team and producing detailed designs. With his previous experience from other Structural Consultancies Craig now brings a fresh new perspective to the Civils design team and to his work.Craig's career goal is to gain the skills and experience to continuously develop his profession to Senior Civil Engineer and to be able to work autonomously on his own projects.Craig has spent 3 years in Sydney, Australia for a façade Engineering Consultancy producing a variety of drawings which ranged from Glass reinforced concrete (GRC) façade to curtain walls. During his time in Australia, Craig and his wife had a daughter which he loves spending most of his time with when not at work. Weekends and evenings you will find Craig enjoying the gym or going for nature walks with his family
Frances joined Barter Hill in January 2018 as a Secretary/Administrator based in our Harlow office. She is passionate about Health and Safety and ensuring our standards are met within the company. In addition to her administrative abilities she possesses excellent communication skills, allowing her to interact well with colleagues and clients. She has a keen eye for detail and a natural flair for Credit Control and promptly assesses overdue accounts and works hard to improve the Companies cash flow.When not working you can find her watching Strictly and learning new dance steps together with her love of baking and improving her cake icing skills she is always busy.
James is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Structural Engineers. He studied his Masters degree at Loughborough University, which was a perfect setting for his love of sport and socialising. James has experience in substructure and superstructure design and competent in the 4 main structural materials (Concrete, Timber, Steel and Masonry). He has a deep understanding of analysis techniques building codes, and industry standards, enabling him to navigate complex engineering challenges with confidence and expertise. His vast experience in reinforced concrete frame design is a credit to him, and provides cost effective appraisals and detailed solutions. He is proficient in finite element analysis to produce economic multistorey RC frames with and without basements. James is an excellent communicator and strives in delivering quality to the client, by effectively collaborating with the design team. He remains dedicated to continual professional development and committed to the profession and helping to embark knowledge on upcoming engineers.
Since joining barter Hill 5 years ago, James has been furthering his education and is currently working towards a BEng in Civil Engineering.James enjoys walks with his dogs, motorcycles in the summer and supporting Norwich City Football Club.

Joseph currently holds the position of an apprentice within the Civils team at Barter Hill while concurrently pursuing his Level 3 Engineering Technician qualification at Norwich City College.His aspirations entail advancing his expertise in Engineering by enrolling in a university program to obtain a degree in Civil Engineering. With a tenure of nearly two years in the Barter Hill Civils team, Joseph has demonstrated remarkable progress, mastering AutoCAD to autonomously create Civil Engineering Drawings Independently.Outside of work Jospeh is very passionate about his love of football and most importantly his Love of Norwich City FC where he has a season ticket at the Lower Barclay.
John has over 40 years of experience as an Engineer for Housing Developers and in Private Practice. He joined Barter Hill in 2007 to head up the Civils Team and became a shareholder in 2017.
Outside of work, John enjoys watching sports, spending time with his family and travelling around the UK in his campervan (when it's not broken down). He closely follows his hometown football club Barnsley.
Kevin was one of the two founding Directors of Barter Hill in 1990. Prior to establishing Barter Hill Partnership, his experience included working for Haris & Sutherland, prominent London based Consulting Engineers in 1970's / 80's. The London Borough of Camden whose chief Engineers department were intimately involved with the Institution of Structural Engineers and BRE, conducting research and field studies into the effect of vegetation in conjunction with shrinkable clays. Finally, before establishing Barter Hill, Kevin worked for Bovis Homes (South East) as Area Structural Engineer for East Anglia, benefitting from being based on a large (3000) plot development in an area of extensive dissolution feature activity. Outside of Barter Hill, Kevin has a strong interest in Mid Century Architecture, motorcycles, cycling... and the occasional sneaky croissant.

Leo is currently an apprentice within the Civils team at Barter Hill and is studying at Norwich City College to achieve his Level 3 Engineering Technician qualification. Once he has achieved this, Leo's goal is to engage in further education and attend university to attain a degree in Civil Engineering. Leo has worked in Barter Hill's Civils team for just under 2 years and has rapidly gained an understanding on AutoCAD to produce Civil Engineering drawings independently.Outside of work, Leo enjoys playing football, he plays for Aylsham FC and 5 a-side football on a weeknight. During the evenings, Leo enjoys going to the gym.
Marc graduated from Coventry University in 2010, having successfully attained both his BEng (Hons) in Civil and Structural Engineering and MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering. During his studies, Marc worked on a variety of bridge projects within a local government design office in Warwickshire. Since graduating, Marc has worked in consultancies based in his home county of Norfolk.Marc is now an Incorporated Structural Engineer with over twelve years of experience in the construction industry and a broad experience across structural engineering disciplines. Marc's experience covers a diverse range of building projects including residential, healthcare, education and commercial sectors utilising a variety of construction methods and materials.Marc is currently progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.Outside of work, Marc enjoys scuba diving with sharks and when not on adventures underwater, is a keen runner completing local and international races up to marathon distance.
Michelle started at Barter Hill in 2016 where she undertook administrative tasks for the Directors and Technical Team.
Over the years, Michelle has developed a strong skill set that allows her to effectively manage tasks and support the team in achieving their goals, with an ability to prioritise and multitask within a busy team.
Michelle's greatest achievement is her Daughter who is 3 going on 13.

Paul joined Barter Hill in 2021 as a Principal Engineer and has further progressed to his current position of Associate Director. He has focused on the delivery of new build projects and the repurposing of existing buildings ranging from the small-scale to concrete frame developments.He enjoys spending most of his weekends on the sidelines at the rugby club supporting his children.
Starting as a draughtsman 20+ years ago, Pete has worked his way up from drawing to designing foundations and moved on to Superstructure design. Prior to starting at Barter Hill, he completed full-time education in electronics and computer-aided engineering, where he discovered AutoCad. We supported his further education, where he went on to pass a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. Pete has also completed an Associate's exam with iStructe and is looking to progress as a chartered engineer.Outside of work, Pete enjoys spending quality time with his family, camping, hiking, all things technology and eating ice cream on the beach!
Rebecca has recently joined Barter Hill as our Practice Business Manager; she has come from an educational background where her main focus was in HR and Finance. Previously her career has spanned across the Oilfield and Transportation Industry, where she enjoyed the opportunity to engage in various HR and Administration roles, also spending some time working in Strategy and Operations.Rebecca has three children, two of which are at university and one at college, although she enjoyed being a stay-at-home Mum for several years, she welcomed a return to work and studied Business Administration to assist in developing her career. She is very pleased to bring her knowledge, skills and experience to support Barter Hill in their development, success and growth of the company and looks forward to an exciting career with us.Theatre and the arts have been a strong passion in her life and she often enjoys a weekend in London to soak up the culture and catch up with her children.
Richard joined the consultancy back in 2008 as a CAD Technician, bringing with him experience in construction, detailing Steel & Reinforcement. Barter Hill assisted with his educational progression & development & gained his HND in 2012. During his long-term employment, Richard has gained a very wide range of expertise from working alongside Barter Hill's most experienced engineers along the way. As Senior CAD Technician, he has assisted in the development of the structural team the past years, with regards to Client program, Cad Standards & technical support. Richard is currently overseeing the training of our newer members of staff & apprentices, where he enjoys passing on his knowledge.Richard has 3 children and is married to his wife who is from Bavaria in Germany, & takes trips to visit family each year.He is a busy chap in his spare time having many hobbies, such as fishing, shooting, boating, playing guitar & teaching his children some old school car mechanics.

Rob has worked in the Construction industry for 30 years in a variety of different roles. He started working on site as a groundworker and worked his way up to contracts & project manager. 4 years ago he joined our civils team here at Barter Hill.In his free time, Rob is interested in swimming and golf. He loves to travel and his favorite place to be is on the side of a snowy mountain as he has a passion for snowboarding.
Tim has over 28 years experience in the industry, 7 of which have been spent here at Barter Hill. He has a particular interest in Historic Building Repair and Conversion.In his free time, Tim enjoys reading and playing the guitar.
