I think nothing is better than pushing things to their limits and seeing how far we can truly go. It is only through questioning and experimentation do we discover new things never thought possible, opening up even more questions and opportunities. Technology is constantly evolving, bringing us new inventions that effect our everyday lives and the possibilities are endless as to what can be achieved. I think that it's crazy how far the world has come in a short space of time and what that means for the future. Being at TBAT gives me a small opportunity to be a witness to the up-and-coming, the world changing, the forefront of innovation and I am so excited to be even a tiny cog in the giant machine that is R&D.
I was constantly reading as a child, getting lost in fictitious worlds or learning about the cosmic universe, I wanted to discover as much as I could and despite me not having the time to bury my head in a book as much as I used to, I think that was the start to where I am now. I took a huge interest in maths and science throughout school and ended up studying Mathematics with Statistics at the University of Nottingham. I headed into the world of accounting and tax, first working at RSM within their corporation tax team, getting my first taste of the R&D tax industry and then moving to a smaller boutique accountancy firm where I got stuck in with SMEs and owner-managed businesses. This then opened the door to TBAT shortly after where I jumped at the chance to get fully involved with R&D tax.
Outside of the office, I am always busy whether that be doing martial arts, playing snooker, at the cinema, going to music festivals or exploring abroad. I started martial arts at the age of 7 and have trained in countless disciplines: Karate, Kickboxing, Wing Chun, Kung Fu, Jiu jitsu, Aikido, Boxing and Jeet Kune Do, for many years I thought martial arts would be the career path I would venture down. Currently I am just working on my kickboxing, although karate is where it all started and will always be the discipline at my heart.

Having spent much of my childhood surrounded by my two engineer grandfathers, I had a natural inclination towards science and how things work. This was further explored and developed through my studies taking me to Manchester University to study material science where I specialised in functional and nanomaterials, although I still appreciated and took great interest in the other areas of study that were not directly in my specialism.
From leaving University into the world at not the most opportune timing with Covid, I have found that I enjoy working with R&D companies that have a wide variety of interesting scientific projects.

I graduated far too long ago from Manchester University with a Geography Degree. Since then, I have had a very varied career which included a couple of years at CERN in Geneva where I ran the tender process for all kinds of equipment, including some of the early parts needed to start building the famous Large Hadron Collider. On returning to the UK I began working in Equity Research for Merrill Lynch - eventually becoming a small cap European equity strategy specialist.
I'm an experienced marketing executive with over six years experience. Prior to joining TBAT, I spent five years in the Automotive industry, working for the leading car manufacturer, Audi. During my time at Audi, I gained invaluable insights into the automotive landscape and developed a deep understanding of marketing, implementing successful strategies and campaigns.
My interest in innovation came about when I was completing my master's degree. I was involved in the 2030 ‘Agenda for Sustainable Development' at the United Nation's HQ in New York which saw the adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) by member states. At university, I became interested in how the SDGs, particularly, SDG9 ‘Industry, Innovation and infrastructure' would be implemented at the local level.
This led me to the world of research and development tax relief which gave me fantastic insight into the progressive development of new ideas through technical report writing. Working collaboratively with clients, I have had the opportunity to support them in realising and maximising their R&D tax claim potential which has resulted in greater investment and generation of further innovation. For myself, this is a fantastic feeling and something I value greatly.
In my spare time, I try to read and write as much as I can about international affairs for my blog, Worldie. I like to travel and love a last-minute European weekend getaway!
