Adam Firby

A senior Human Resources Director, with additional experience in general management and property, Adam is Human Resources Director for Molson Coors Beverage Company in Western Europe. He has previously held roles across Marks and Spencer, Britvic Soft Drinks and Royal Mail Group. Adam joined SPANA's Board of Trustees in December 2021 and is also a member of our Fundraising and Marketing Committee.

David Bassom

David leads all aspects of work to generate voluntary income, brand awareness and support for SPANA. Prior to joining the charity in 2017, David served as Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the Royal National Children's Foundation and Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications at Barnardo's. He has also held head of marketing and communications roles at Blind Veterans UK, the NSPCC and Girlguiding UK. David's work in the charity sector has earned several accolades, including PRCA, IOIC and Fundraising Magazine Awards, as well as a CharityComms Inspiring Communicator Award. David began his career in journalism, contributing to national and local titles including The Guardian, Radio Times and Heat.

Dr Mary-Lorraine Hughes - Chairman

Mary-Lorraine brings extensive experience of both the charity sector and the business world to her role as SPANA's Chair of Trustees, having spent her career serving as Chief Executive for such organisations as Portmeirion Potteries PLC, Pilkington's Tiles Group PLC and Twycross Zoo. A keen animal lover and long-standing SPANA supporter, Mary-Lorraine has been a Trustee of SPANA since January 2017 and became our Chair of Trustees in February 2021. She is also a member of our Finance and Audit Committee, our People Committee and our Centenary Committee.

gita patel

A qualified accounting professional, Gita has extensive experience of global resources management, having spent nearly three decades at the international development charity Practical Action. Gita has also worked as a consultant and served as Interim Director of Finance and Services at International Commission on Missing Persons and HelpAge International before joining SPANA. As our Director of Global Resources, Gita is responsible for SPANA's Finance, HR, IT, Facilities, Legal and International Governance, and will lead on developing our resources management to build support for our global workforce. Gregory Dellas - Chairman

A versatile leader, senior manager and change agent whose experience spans the not-for-profit, finance, professional services, education, ICT and automotive sectors, Gregory currently works as CRM & Managed Services Practice Manager at Blackbaud - Asia Pacific. He began his career at the Commonwealth Bank before moving on to roles for organisations including Plan International Australia, Uniting Church in Australia - Synod of Victoria and Tasmania (UCA), KPMG Australia, DaimlerChrysler Financial Services (DCFS) and Telstra. Gregory is passionate about bringing value to the not-for-profit sector and seeks to ensure charities balance their core mission delivery with commercial rigour, effective governance and successful change initiatives. He feels privileged to be a member of SPANA's Australia board, where he can share his skills and passion with the team as they establish this important organisation and its mission in Australia.

Janet Hunter

Job Titles:
  • Chartered Management Accountant
An experienced chartered management accountant, Janet forged a career in manufacturing and consultancy before choosing to use her skills and knowledge in the not-for-profit sector. In recent years she has worked for organisations including Voluntary Service Overseas, EducAid, Relief International and Angkor Hospital for Children, contributing to global projects driving improvement and change across such countries as Malawi, Sudan, Sierra Leone and Cambodia. Janet is currently a Trustee and Treasurer for Citizens Advice Wirral. A great animal lover, Janet lives with her partner and Cambodian cat in the countryside of North Wales. Since joining SPANA as a Trustee in March 2023, Janet has also served as a member of SPANA's Finance and Audit Committee.

Kerin Welford

An internationally accredited Certified Fundraising Executive and Fellow of the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA), Kerin Welford is the Director of Bluestone Fundraising. With more than 24 years' experience, Kerin has worked within nine international, national and regional charitable organisations, spanning the not-for-profit sector across Australia and New Zealand. A multi-award-winning fundraising leader, change manager, international conference speaker and mentor, Kerin also serves as a Board member of Borneo Orangutan Survival Australia and the President of Sydney Street Cats.

Linda Edwards - CEO

As SPANA's Chief Executive, Linda leads our vital work to transform the lives of working animals who support the world's poorest communities. A distinguished leader who has successfully worked across the animal welfare, international development, humanitarian and commercial sectors, Linda has previously worked as Chief Executive of the charities United Purpose and Build Africa. She has also served as Executive Director of Operations at The Donkey Sanctuary. Linda has lived and worked overseas extensively, from Africa, Asia and Australasia to Central and South America, Europe and the Middle East. After serving as Marie Stopes International's Country Director in Malawi, she moved to Australia to cover the organisation's work across the Pacific Asia region. Linda has also led international programmes as Country Director for Merlin and the Danish Refugee Council, based in Sudan, DR Congo and Iraq. As a keen animal lover, Linda is deeply committed to SPANA's work and values.

Melbourne-born Cameron Fellows

Melbourne-born Cameron Fellows is a qualified Chartered Accountant, Chartered Company Secretary and Fellow of FINSIA (the Financial Services Institute of Australasia). Having commenced his career with Coopers & Lybrand (now called PwC), Cameron has since held senior finance roles in publicly listed and private businesses in Melbourne, London and Sydney. Cameron currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of the ASX-listed business AWN Holdings Ltd.

Melissa Liszewski

Melissa has worked on community-based animal welfare initiatives in more than 30 countries around the world since 2005. Currently leading the global Community Engagement Program at the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), and previously leading the global Community Development team at Brooke, she is experienced in developing sustainable animal health and husbandry systems, as well as community-led approaches to disaster risk reduction and wildlife conservation. Melissa holds a master's degree in animal science with specialisations in international development and social science. In addition to her Trustee duties at SPANA, Melissa is a member of our Services Committee.

Morgan Lance

Morgan has spent the last two decades helping animal welfare and children's charities and not-for-profit organisations raise funds, tell their stories and improve lives. She currently works as Chief Executive of OneSky for all children, while her previous roles include Executive Director of the Daraja Education Fund. Prior to starting her NGO career, Morgan earned a teaching credential and worked in Humane Education, teaching both children and adults about the needs of animals. Morgan lives in the US with her husband, their equestrian daughter, a rescued dog and cats, and their retired horse, Gracie. Morgan joined SPANA's Board of Trustees in March 2023 and is also a member of our Global Animal Welfare and Global Fundraising & Communications Committees.

Sarah Shanks

An experienced equine vet and public health practitioner, Sarah has worked in Africa, Australia and Europe. She currently works as a Consultant in Public Health Medicine at Public Health England, following her earlier work as Veterinary Advisor to the UK Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). During her career, Sarah has seen first-hand how working animals provide vital support to communities in developing countries. As part of her work as a Trustee, Sarah is a member of our Services Committee and is also represents the SPANA Board in our whistleblowing policy.

Spencer Simmons

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Spencer was a Partner in Haslers Chartered Accountants. He has supported organisations as a volunteer for Accounting for International Development. In addition to serving on SPANA's Board of Trustees since March 2023, Spencer is a member of our Finance and Audit Committee.
