Allan Mendelsohn - Chairman, Founder, Managing Director

Allan is now Managing Director, overseeing and planning for the growth of the four teams of Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and Highway Design which operate within the company. He specialises in a wide range of transport planning and engineering work covering almost all development proposals. His comprehensive experience enables him to determine and address the changes in transportation activity associated with development and redevelopment proposals. He seeks to obtain the removal of highway issues and objections via Transport Assessments, negotiations and, where necessary, by acting as an Expert Witness at planning appeals where he has a very successful record. Allan has over 30 years Transport Planning experience. He graduated from Thames Polytechnic in 1983 with a BSc Hons in Estate Management and from Leeds University in 1984 with an MSc In Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. During his early career he gained experience in a Local Authority Highways Department as well as large multi-disciplinary consultancies, including Ove Arup, before progressing into smaller specialised consultancy. In 1996 he and Lorna Randall-Jones established ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd.

Andy Miles

Andy started working at ADL Traffic & Highways Engineering Ltd in 2006. Andy is able to provide a diverse range of services to the client, working from initial design and feasibility layout stage, through to the transport planning matters, providing Transport reports for planning submissions, and subsequently addressing any Highway issues which may arise as a result of the Planning Consultation process. Andy is proficient and keen, in ensuring the Client achieves the desired result. His most recent experience has been working on behalf of the convenience retail sector providing consultancy services for mixed retail / convenience store schemes, and has previous significant experience working to achieve planning approvals of standalone / drive-thru restaurants.

Archie Evans

Archie joined ADL in June 2019 as a Graduate Transport Planner and has since been promoted to Transport Planner. Archie studied Urban Planning and Development BSc at Cardiff University prior to joining ADL. Archie has worked on a range of schemes and has significant experience working on standalone and drive-restaurants. Archie is experienced in producing Transport Assessments/Statements, Travel Plans and other reports such as Delivery Management and Construction Management Plans. Archie works on schemes from the pre-application stage, through to the post submission stage and discharging of conditions. Archie also has considerable experience undertaking junction capacity assessments using the Junctions 9 modelling software (PICADY and ARCADY) and LinSIG modelling for signal junctions.

Catherine Chapman

Catherine is a Director at ADL with considerable experience in managing transportation projects, producing technical reports and developing strong working relationships with her clients. Catherine spent several years at ADL's London office liaising with various London Borough Highway Authorities and Transport for London to secure planning consents for a mix of residential and commercial developments, she now manages projects nationwide. Catherine specialises in providing Transport Assessments, Parking Assessments, Feasibility Studies and Proofs of Evidence. Catherine can also lead negotiations to resolve transportation issues and agree S106 contributions. Catherine has over 10 years Transport Planning experience, she graduated from Sheffield University in 2003 with a BSc Hons in Geography and in 2010 from the University of West of England with an MSc In Transport Planning.

Lorna Randall Jones - Founder

Lorna is a founder member and Director of ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd responsible for the management of Highway, Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning projects. Lorna has been involved in a wide range of projects involving retail, residential, industrial, warehousing, office, restaurants and leisure developments situated in a wide variety of locations, as well as dealing with out-of-town developments and town centre redevelopments. Lorna's qualifications include a Masters Degree in Traffic Engineering and Transportation, Southampton University 2001, a Diploma in Transport Planning and Engineering, University of Middlesex 1994 (with Distinction) and a Higher Diploma in Geographical Techniques, Luton University. She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Highways and Transport and Chartered Member of Institute of Logistics and Transport. She has also prepared and submitted traffic studies, negotiated with Highway Authorities and presented evidence as an Expert Witness at Public Inquiry and in Local Plan Inquiry.

Mike Tucker

Mike has been with the company since 2013 starting as a trainee CAD technician. He is now part of the team that deals with Highway and Civil Engineering projects within the company, including detailed design, Traffic Management plans, S278 / other Highway agreements and liaising with clients and the council. Mike is a perfectionist, and has a keen eye for detail, ensuring the client always achieves the desired professional result.

Paul Lacey

Paul specialises in providing comprehensive design related services which also includes vehicle swept path analyses to the Client. His thorough experience is within Highway related design advice, liaising with Clients and Architect's to ensure that development proposals are in accordance with the relevant and most recent design standards. He has a very keen eye and attention to detail, is very likeable and builds positive relationships with his Clients whom will pay testament to the professionalism of Paul's work, and drawings. Paul benefits from a vast array of knowledge and experience having worked at ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd for over 20 years, after joining the company in 1997. Paul enjoys preparing clear and concise drawings to the benefit of the clients and has therefore progressed within the company to be the Principal Designer.

Tom Hayward

Tom has 18 years of experience within Highways and Traffic Engineering industry. Tom spent the early part of his career with Somerset County Council as a Traffic Technician, progressing to Traffic Engineer designing and managing different forms of Traffic schemes. Tom then project managed the Bath City Centre Pedestrianisation scheme for Bath & North East Somerset Council and went on to become Capital Programme Manager in their Highways & Transport Team. In this role he formed part of the senior management team and was responsible for the delivery of the Councils Capital Highways Programme, management of the Communications, Administration and Contract teams within the Service. Since joining ADL Tom has had great success in using his experience to significantly expand the companies Traffic Regulation Order workstream from a single client to multiple contracts with various Local Authority Clients across the country. Tom has a wealth of experience in writing reports, managing multi million pound budgets, the training and management of staff, delivering large programmes of Highways and Traffic work as well as specialist knowledge of promoting and implementing Traffic Regulation Orders. He has a HNC in Civil Engineering and is a Fellow of the Institute of Highways Engineers.

Tom Ponting

Tom has been with ADL since April 2021 after graduating with a BSc from the University of Plymouth and has since been promoted a Transport Planner. Tom has worked on a diverse range of schemes, preparing technical reports to support planning applications including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Construction Traffic Management Plans. He has worked on schemes from the pre-application stage, through to planning approval and discharging conditions. Tom also has experience with developing reports in preparation for BREEAM accreditation, specifically Tra 01 and Tra 02 guidance for Transport Assessments and Travel Plans. Tom specialises in data analysis and presentation skills, using tools including QGIS geospatial software, the TRICS trip generation platform and Trip End Model Presentation Program (TEMPro), and Junctions 10 modelling software (ARCADY and PICADY). Tom has a keen attention to detail and strives to deliver the highest quality work to ensure that the Client achieves their goal.
