Clive Nicol

Job Titles:

After graduating with a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Clive joined Factory Mutual Engineering as a Fire Protection engineer. Here he gained considerable insurance engineering experience in the USA, Canada, the Far East and Europe. He has a wide experience of FM and NFPA standards, gained during this period. In 1975 he joined the Commercial Union Risk Management Division working with them for 17 years, on a wide variety of International Risk Engineering projects. He has reviewed, particularly in relation to Fire Protection and Prevention, many industrial processes covering a wide spectrum throughout the world. Clive has also been involved in advising clients in insurance, reinsurance and captive insurance on the implementation of Risk Control programmes. His previous experience has enabled him to recommend fire protection and prevention schemes, taking into account the most practical and cost effective systems, whilst utilising an innovative approach and at the same time taking into account the use, where relevant, of the best International Standards. Clive has considerable experience of carrying out risk engineering reviews for insurance purposes, including not only Property Damage, but Boiler and Machinery and Business Interruption coverages. He has applied this in such varied industries as telecommunications, electronics, motor and vehicle manufacturing and textiles. After spending over a year with a major international risk management organisation Clive joined Suregrove as an Engineering Consultant in 1993.

Doug Crawford

Doug Crawford (56) has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over twenty years extensive experience in oil refining with British Petroleum, ranging from operations management and commissioning to process engineering and project development. With BP, he was latterly Business Services Manager responsible for third party oil refineries in Singapore and Cyprus before which he held senior Operations Management and Technical positions in BP's complex upgrading the refinery at Grangemouth in Scotland. His experience at Grangemouth also included three years as Operations Manager for the Kinneil Terminal processing all the off-shore Forties Field crude, a site of UK Strategic Importance. The development of Doug's career from process engineering responsibility for Hydrocracking, HF Alkylation, Fluid Catalytic Cracking and Reforming through to managing refinery operations, has included implementation of Safety & Loss Management, ISO 9000 Quality, Re-engineering and Culture Change initiatives. At Grangemouth he co-ordinated refinery plant and Forties Field turnarounds, chaired the Safety and Hazop Review Committees and was refinery representative on the Scottish Branch of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. In London he co-ordinated BP's technical support for the Singapore Refining Company's Residue Catalytic Cracking Project and was refinery adviser on the Graduate Technical Career Development Team. Since joining Suregrove Limited he has specialised in Risk Engineering Surveys on refinery and petrochemical locations, and also light/heavy engineering risks. He has been undertaking surveys and valuations at Suregrove Limited for the past 9 years worldwide.

Dr. Neil Holloway

Neil Holloway is a fully qualified manager/engineer whose primary expertise is in the processing of natural resources containing metals, fuel minerals and industrial minerals to meet market requirements. Wide knowledge of all unit operations used in mineral exploitation. He has carried out insurance surveys, due diligence and audit work; market assessment and development; management; project appraisal, feasibility studies and management; plant design, commissioning, operation and management. Typical risks he has visited are: Coal mines and processing (UK and overseas), Copper mines, Iron Ore, Phosphate mines, Gold mines, Lignite mine and power plants, Tin mines, Zinc mines. He has also audited petrochemical and organic chemicals plants such as phosphoric acid production and fertiliser facilities in Saudi Arabia. He has also conducted environmental audits at many of the sites, waste disposal such as Gypsum by-products, on-site advice on chemistry of ground materials relating to site cleanup and clearance, provided technical assistance to a company specialising in minor metal products and advised on research and development facilities for the production of nanometre size metal powders. In 1986-1988, Neil worked at Weardale Mining and Processing as the Manager of the Fluorspar Plant, where his Responsibilities and projects included Plant management. Management of projects from feasibility study via procurement to commissioning to develop and market fluorspar, ferroalloy and anthracite briquette based products, involved in obtaining board commitment to BS 5750.

Reg Canaway

Reg Canaway (50) has a Bachelor of Science Degree, is a Fellow of the Chemical Engineers and a Marine Engineer. He has over 28 years experience in industry, working at plant sites, in engineering and construction companies and for the insurance markets. He has given seminars in Risk Management on several Onshore and Offshore risks. Reg has considerable experience in Project Management on major industrial projects having worked for several years in senior appointments with recognised international contractors, both in the UK and abroad. He was a consultant to Occidental following the Piper Alpha loss for a period of 2 years and also worked on projects connected with the rebuilding of Kuwait in 1992-3 after the Gulf War. Reg has carried out reviews at some of the world's largest energy insurance risks as well as mines, breweries, heavy engineering and utility plants. He has presented papers at International Conferences discussing Risk Improvement for both onshore and offshore projects, as well as Business Interruption and Estimated Maximum Loss (EML) methodology in the Aberdeen, London, Manchester (UK), Argentina, Colombia (South America), Czech Republic, Indonesia, Italy, Holland, Poland, Russia. Reg established Suregrove Limited over 14 years ago and since this time has seen the company develop to become one of the Premier Risk Engineering consultancy organisations in the international insurance market. The company now has a track record in over 100 countries including those in the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Far East, Australasia, Europe, the Former Soviet Union and Scandinavia.
