David Shahnazaryan

Mr Shahnazaryan has presented internationally on Cataract surgery, Corneal Transplantation and Oculoplastic Surgery. His clinical and lab-based research focused on corneal transplantation and herpes simplex keratitis. He published in high impact ophthalmology journals, more recently in American Journal of Ophthalmology. After obtaining his primary medical degree from Yerevan State Medical University in his home country of Armenia in June 2001, he underwent a 3-year residency program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Professor Armen Hovhannisyan a distinguished Plastic Surgeon. He later relocated to the Republic of Ireland in 2008 to further his qualification, residing in Dublin. Mr Shahnazaryan completed his ophthalmology residency at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin with the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, renowned for its excellence. In 2014 he completed a refractive fellowship with Professor Michael O'Keefe, one of the pioneers of Refractive Surgery in Ireland. In 2018 he finished his latest achievement of obtaining an MD postgraduate research degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He followed this with Fellowships in Oculoplastic Surgery at St. James's University Hospital, Leeds in 2018 and in Cornea & Anterior Segment at King's College Hospital, London in 2019.

Lucia Pelosini

Ms Pelosini is one of only a handful of Consultant Surgeons in the UK who is dual fellowship trained in Cornea & Anterior Segment and Medical Retina. Ms Pelosini qualified from Pisa University Medical School with Honours in 1999. She completed her postgraduate training in ophthalmology in London South Thames Training Programme working in a number of leading hospitals including King's College Hospital and Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital. She completed a Research Fellowship in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital and obtained an MD Research degree at the University of London. She completed her training with a Fellowship in Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery at the Western Eye Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London.

Marcela M. Espinosa-Lagana

Miss Espinosa is a Director at Centre for Sight. Her medical education and initial specialty training was undertaken in Mexico. She undertook residency in Ophthalmology in Guadalajara, Jalisco and undertook specialty training in Cornea and Keratorefractive Surgery at CODET, Tijuana under the mentorship of Arturo Chayet, MD well known in this area. After spending time in academics as Professor ad-Honorem at the University of Costa Rica she joined Lasersight Inc., manufacturer of ophthalmic lasers. At Lasersight she acted as a medical consultant and advisor, training doctors in laser eye surgery and collecting data for submission to regulatory auhtorities. She emigrated to the UK in 1998. Miss Espinosa worked in Spain as a consultant in 2003 and then underwent further specialty fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology at Great Ormond St. Hospital, London. In addition to being on the General Medical Council's specialist register in the UK, Miss Espinosa is also registered to practice as a specialist in Spain. Marcela Espinosa-Lagana is fluent in Spanish and Italian and able to take consultations in these languages. Ms Espinosa-Lagana is a Director and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Centre for Sight. Mr Edward Lee

Mr Edward Lee studied Medicine at Oxford University, where he won an Open Academic Scholarship from Brasenose College and a number of prizes following end of year exams. Since qualifying he has worked in the UK and New Zealand before sub-specialising with specialist fellowships at St.Thomas' Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Mr Lee is a frequent presenter at national and international ophthalmology meetings. His principal areas of research relate to improving patient outcomes following retinal surgeries. His PhD thesis was on evolving treatments, including gene therapies and stem cell techniques, for retinal causes of visual loss. Edward Lee has over 35 research papers published in the medical and scientific literature. The majority of these relate to patient outcomes following retinal surgeries. He has ongoing research projects related to improving the quality of vision following retinal surgeries and avoiding symptoms of distortion. Interests & Specialty Research Interests: Mr Ed Lee continues to be active in the ophthalmic research community, focusing on improving patient outcomes from retinal surgeries. He utilizes the latest small-gauge equipment and cutting-edge protocols for a focus on patient results.

Prof Tom H Williamson

Professor Williamson studied medicine at Glasgow University Medical School, qualifying in l984 with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). He subsequently proceeded to train in ophthalmology in Aberdeen, Cambridge, Glasgow and London specialising in vitreoretinal disorders from 1995 to the present day. Tom Williamson is involved in a number of national committees, which implement standards for all ophthalmologists. These include: Prof Tom H Williamson is a vitreoretinal surgeon with wide experience of surgical interventions for retinal disease with 500 operations performed under his care annually. He has specialist interest in dealing with diseases of the retina but also manages general ophthalmic conditions. He has extensive experience in managing patients with disorders of the retina and the vitreous, and performs all types of retinal surgery (with the largest international single surgeon dataset of over 10,000 operations), including new innovative techniques. Professor Williamson is extensively involved in the training and teaching of future generations of ophthalmic surgeons and has trained approximately 30 vitreoretinal fellows as part of a highly sought after, international fellowship programme at St Thomas' Hospital, London. Many of these fellows have gone on to be appointed Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeons either in the United Kingdom or abroad.

Saj H Khan

Mr Saj Khan specialises in cornea, cataract and both laser and lens based vision correction surgery. As one of UK's earliest users of femtosecond laser technology, he has an established interest and expertise in its application in ophthalmic surgery. Mr Khan is a consultant to Scope Ophthalmics and Beaver-Visitec International (BVI).

Shahrnaz Izadi

Miss Izadi is a Retinal Lead at Epsom and St Helier University Hospital and a UK Medical graduate, who has a degree in Medicine from the University of Manchester and in Physiology from University College London. She is a highly specialised Consultant Ophthalmologist, with expertise and knowledge in Retinal Eye Disease, and has undertaken joint academic and clinical training. Miss Izadi also has experience of working within the Ophthalmic Pharmaceutical Industry and has a keen interest in clinical research and trials. She has accrued an abundance of clinical trial experience whilst working in the industry and has published articles in multiple peer-reviewed journals. She has presented at both the National and International level. She has a particular interest in new innovations and treatment modalities for Medical Retina disorders. She is presently a substantive Consultant at Epsom and St Helier University Hospital NHS Trust, and is the clinical Lead for Diabetic Maculopathy as well as the clinical Retinal Lead. She has completed several departmental Audits in management of Diabetic Maculopathy and Wet Age Related Macular Degeneration. She is also a Principal Investigator in Clinical Trials at the Trust.

Sheraz Daya is the Medical Director of Centre for Sight. Recruited from New York, USA in 1993, Mr Daya was Director and Consultant at the Corneoplastic Unit and Eye Bank, Queen Victoria Hospital. Mr Daya transformed the Corneoplastic Unit and Eye Bank, acquiring an international reputation for excellence in Corneal surgery and resigned from the NHS in 2011. Mr. Daya is a key opinion leader for the ophthalmic industry and is highly regarded nationally and internationally. He serves on numerous boards and committees and is also the founding Chief Medical Editor of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today. He is regularly invited to speak at international conventions and meetings and is known as for many innovations in ophthalmology. Mr. Daya was recognised for his leadership by winning the award "Leadership in Improvement" of the Best of Health Awards 2009, South East England. He has also been awarded the highly prized Senior Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (2009) for his contribution to Ophthalmology and the American Academy. After completing his training in the United States, Mr Daya was Director of Cornea and External Disease at the Catholic Medical Centre and in practice on Madison Avenue, New York. In 1993 he was appointed Director and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon of the Corneo Plastic Unit and Eye Bank at the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust, East Grinstead. In 1995 Mr Daya performed the first the LASIK laser vision correction procedure in the UK and became a well known trainer of the procedure. Dissatisfied with the limitations of eye care provision in private hospitals, he felt compelled to establish a "Centre for Excellence" intended to provide patients with the world class personalised medical and surgical eye care as well as set the standards for laser eye surgery. Anticipating refractive surgery (surgery to correct shortsight, farsight and astigmatism) would become a popular procedure, it was important to him that the centre became a leading authority in any matter concerning the cornea and front of the eye. Mr Daya founded Centre for Sight in 1996 and under his leadership and expertise Centre for Sight has grown phenomenally now with 3 locations. Centre for Sight has a phenomenal reputation for providing exemplary eye care with eye surgeons visiting internationally to observe or even to have procedures performed on themselves or their family by Mr. Daya. He has also developed instrumentation for LASIK and other corneal procedures that are in regular use worldwide. Under Mr. Daya's leadership, Centre for Sight continues to lead the UK in advances in technology and eye care. Mr. Daya introduced femtosecond lasers to the UK in 1994 and this "blade-free" laser surgery is now the gold standard for LASIK. Mr. Daya has again introduced the Victus Femtosecond laser for cataract and Laser Lens Exchange. This procedure although expensive is safer and more accurate and is rapidly becoming the gold standard for cataract and lens replacement surgery. Mr. Daya has also invented a series of innovative ophthalmic instruments for use in Corneal Transplantation, Collagen Cross Linking (CXL), Laser refractive Surgery and more recently femtosecond laser cataract surgery. He has devised a new technique called "Trans-lens Hydrodissection" which enables easy removal of the lens during femtosecond laser cataract and lens surgery. Bausch and Lomb introduced the "Daya Trans-lens Hydrodissection Cannula" at the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2012.
