Aimee Laing

Job Titles:
  • Receptionist
Aimee joined Battle Flatts in June 2022 and works as a receptionist between our Strensall and Stamford Bridge surgeries. She lives with her very cuddly kitten Edgar who is a recent addition to the family. In her spare time she enjoys eating out and trying new cuisines as well as travelling around the UK seeing friends.

Amber Challenger RVN

Job Titles:
  • Registered Veterinary Nurse
Amber began working with us in December 2021. She studied for a degree at Askham Bryan College and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in June 2018. Amber works at our Stamford Bridge clinic and occasionally visits our Strensall branch. Amber enjoys all aspects of nursing but is particularly keen on assisting in theatre and carrying out microscopy in the lab. She is also the resident Terrier lover as she has a little old, one eyed Patterdale boy at home named Sooty! She has also owned a Barn owl and so is often found admiring the Birds of Prey visiting the practice.

Caroline Jones RVN

Caroline (aka Caz) joined the Battle Flatts team in April 2022. She has worked in the industry since 2014 and qualified in 2018, including veterinary nursing in South Africa working with rhinos and elephants. She enjoys all areas of nursing and has a passion for exotic species. Her own pets include 5 snakes, several tarantulas, 3 cats, a bearded dragon called Winston and a Sailfin called Quill. In her spare time Caz enjoys sewing (mainly corsetry), spending time with her family and friends and being out on her Honda CBR600 motorbike.

Charlie Kennedy

Charlie joined Battle Flatts in 2014 and works between the Pocklington and Stamford Bridge surgeries. When she is not working she likes nothing more than going for long walks with her dogs Paddy and Spider and maybe finishing off at the pub.

Chloe Waddington

Chloe joined the Battle Flatts Team as a receptionist in October 2017. She can mainly be found at the Stamford Bridge branch but may occasionally be seen over at Strensall. She moved to Yorkshire in 2017 and so far is loving life up here. Chloe has three of what she would call ‘her babies.' She has a Dutch Rabbit called Flash, a Corn Snake called Sheldon and a very spoiled rescue cat called Herbie. Her favourite animals are Bears but unfortunately they don't make very good pets! When Chloe isn't at work she enjoys kickboxing, gaming, reading, going to the cinema and golfing (only when the weather is nice!). She is also a big foodie and enjoys eating out at different restaurants.

Edith Mitchelmore RVN

Job Titles:

Edith joined Battle Flatts in 2009 as a student and after completing three years of training she qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2012. She originally worked at both the Pocklington and Stamford bridge branches but is now a senior nurse at our Stamford Bridge branch. On her days off Edith likes to be outdoors, walking in the countryside, making trips to the beach. There's nothing better than sitting in a sunny garden with her cat, Walter Stripes and enjoying a nice drink.

Evie Elcock RVN

Job Titles:

Evie joined the Battle Flatts team in September 2014 after doing work experience and qualified as a veterinary nurse in November 2016. She enjoys all aspects of nursing especially assisting with surgical procedures and nursing exotic species and wildlife. In her spare time Evie enjoys walking my Cocker Spaniel, Charlie and looking after her rabbit, Fudge. She also likes to cook and bake when time allows.

Gabby Bush RVN

Gabby started at Battle Flatts in 2016 as part of her pre-nursing course and she has since completed her foundation degree with us, she qualified in June 2019. She stayed with us to work as an RVN based between our Stamford Bridge and Norton branches.

Gemma Graham

Gemma graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2016 and joined Battle Flatts a month later. She has always harboured a keen interest in wildlife, exotic and zoo animal medicine, and quickly began working with Mark to support the growing exotic patient caseload at the practice. In addition to this she enjoys getting to know her small animal patients and their owners. Her love for wildlife, veterinary medicine and travelling has kept her busy as she has spent time volunteering in a street animal hospital in India, at a cat/dog shelter in Egypt and a wildlife rehabilitation centre in South Africa. Gemma is based at our Stamford Bridge branch where she enjoys the busy atmosphere and the diversity of small animal and exotic cases. She is nearing completion of her Advanced Practitioner Certificate in Zoological Medicine, which is hoping to finish by this year. In her spare time Gemma is a keen baker which she and her partner, Scott, balance out with CrossFit, and gardening with their cat Mushu.

Hannah Tate

Hannah graduated from Nottingham Vet School in 2012 and has worked in several countries, including the UK, Australia and New Zealand, with a mixture of small, farm and exotic animals, before joining Battle Flatts in January 2019. She has a particular passion for wildlife and exotic species, and is currently undertaking her advanced practitioner certificate in zoological medicine, but also thoroughly enjoys small animal surgery and imaging. In her spare time Hannah loves to travel, and has worked with a variety of conservation projects including a lion sanctuary in Zimbabwe and a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Guatemala. She also enjoys hiking and being outdoors, in particular climbing mountains with her partner (they recently took on Mount Kilimanjaro), as well as spending time with her family, friends and her cat, Astrid.

Helen Mackinder

Helen graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005. After a short stint dealing with all creatures great and small, she settled into the senior small animal veterinary surgeon role in a mixed practice in the Yorkshire Dales, with the exception of an occasional sheep cesarean has focused on small animal work ever since. Having worked in Australia and several areas of the UK, Helen moved to the York area in 2014, and joined Battle Flatts Veterinary Clinic in 2019. She enjoys all aspects of small animal work, with a particular interest in surgery. Outside work Helen enjoys swimming, and spending time with her family including their Springer Spaniel, Mabel, and medical marvel of a cat Freddie.

Isabel Richardson

Izzy joined the Battleflatts team in July 2021 as a patient care assistant after completing her animal science course at Askham Bryan College and has now begun studying towards her Veterinary Nursing Level 3 Diploma. Izzy has always been around animals having grown up on a farm near Malton, and has lots of cats and dogs of her own as well those she cares for at work. Izzy is mostly based at Stamford Bridge but is sometimes found at our other practices.

Isabelle Downs

Izzy joined Battle Flatts in September 2021 as a work experience student while she completed her Level 3 Zoology course at Askham Bryan Collage, she went on to become an apprentice veterinary nursing student with us.

Jacqui Tipping

Jacqui has been with the practice since the mid-1990s when it was still owned by Stuart Easby and Matt Brash. At the weekends she enjoys embroidery, gardening and getting out into the countryside, and seems to spend a lot of time watching cricket, not always when she chooses to!

Jenny Molloy RVN

Job Titles:

Jenny qualified as a nurse in 2008 she joined Battle Flatts in January 2018 as senior nurse at our Norton branch. Jenny has a particular interest in small animal nutrition. At home Jenny lives with her husband, her son and their two Springer Spaniels, Daisy and Poppy. Jenny enjoys camping with friends and family long walks on the beach fossil hunting and cinema trips.

Jessica Murray

Jess is a local lass from East Riding and after qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2019 she decided to settle back here. She had previously completed a degree in zoology, with a focus on animal behaviour, before vet school and has always loved animals. Jess enjoys all aspects of veterinary practice, but is particularly interested in internal medicine and investigating those complicated medicine cases. Jess is currently spending her free time renovating her first home and walking her border collie Morris in the lovely Yorkshire countryside.

Jo Holdsworth

In her spare time Jo loves walking in Dalby Forest with her dogs Arnie & Dougal, as well as visiting friends & family in Norfolk & Berkshire.

Karen Livesidge

Karen joined Battle Flatts Veterinary Clinic in 2016 and is based at the Pocklington branch, where she loves to meet and greet the clients and their pets. Karen enjoys walking her dogs, Ginny and Bess, on their family farm and in her spare time likes listening to music and baking.

Kate Holden

Kate started working for Battle Flatts in 2001 and is the receptionist at Pocklington. She loves her job very much and feels like she is part of an exclusive club where you get together with friends and talk about our pets! In her spare time Kate likes gardening and reading and watching her new additions, her chickens; they are fantastic pets and so much fun.

Katie Brennan

After graduating from Cambridge University in 2002, Katie spent several years practising in the northwest of England before indulging in her love of travel and spending some time abroad. Katie worked in busy small animal practices in New Zealand and Australia and developed a keen interest in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. She started at Battle Flatts in 2008 and completed her certificate in small animal surgery in 2013. Based at our Stamford Bridge branch, Katie enjoys all aspects of internal medicine, but is particularly interested in surgery and is responsible for advanced soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic cases at the practice. She and her partner Moses have three children keeping them busy at home, as well as a bouncy red Labrador and a very affectionate cat. Kate enjoys spending time in the wonderful North Yorkshire countryside with her family and a little travelling when time allows!

Laura Wild

Joined the team in November 2018 as a weekend receptionist after taking a few years out to spend time with her two young children. She previously spent five years working at a vets on the Isle of Wight in a nursing, practice admin and reception role. In her spare time she enjoys being outdoors as much as possible with the kids and the dog. Her main interests are animals and geology (Laura has a degree in geology).

Liz Harland

After qualifying from Edinburgh University, Elizabeth joined a mixed veterinary practice in the New Forest. She first started working with Battle Flatts in 1993 ago after moving up from London where she had been working and studying for a PhD at the Royal Veterinary College. Living locally, Liz has a grown up family of three and an extended family of numerous horses, sheep, hens, pigs, cats and a very lively Airedale Terrier. Her hobbies include riding, walking, tandem cycling and going to the theatre.

Lucy Irvine

Lucy qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2017, she then moved south to work for a year in Teeside in a small animal practice before joining the Battle Flatts team in July 2018. She went on secondment for a year 2021-2022 to cover a maternity leave Head Vet position in Selby and has now returned to Battle Flatts as our Head Vet. She enjoys all aspects of small animal practice particularly preventative health care and end of life care alongside looking after our wonderful team. Originally from the West Coast of Scotland, Lucy spends her free time visiting friends and family back home, exploring the Yorkshire countryside with her partner and Finn the Labrador.

Lynne Parkinson RVN

Lynne qualified in 1996 after training at Berkshire college of Agriculture, working in a variety of practices as a qualified veterinary nurse and then as a head nurse. She moved up to York and joined Battle Flatts in 2005, becoming head nurse in 2006 where she gained, first her certificate in veterinary nursing Small Animal Dentistry and then City in Guilds certificate in Veterinary Nursing of exotic species. Lynne has a keen interest in exotics and enjoys working with many species of birds and in particular, the birds of prey we are lucky enough to see and treat. She has a very handsome cat called Billy and two guinea pigs, Custard cream and Ginger nut.

Mark Naguib

Mark qualified from Glasgow in 2009 and joined Battle Flatts a year later, based at our Stamford Bridge surgery. As well as treating dogs and cats, he has a keen interest in exotic animals. Mark holds the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in the field of Zoological Medicine and has experience treating over 400 species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and exotic mammals. In 2014 he was awarded the RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine Status. This status is awarded to vets who have not only undertaken further study and passed exams in a particular area of veterinary work (in Mark's case reptiles, birds and other so-called ‘exotic' animals), but have also confirmed that they continue keep up to date with all the latest developments in their field.

Nicola Hampshire

Nicola joined Battle Flatts in June 2022 and is based at our Strensall and Stamford Bridge practices. Nicola trained as a dancer and enjoys dancing in her spare time, walking her dog Henry and going on holiday to new places!

Paige Winchester RVN

Paige joined the team in October 2022 after studying towards her degree and qualifying from Askham Bryan College in July 2022. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing with specific interests in nurse clinics, behaviour and anaesthesia. In her spare time she enjoys baking, spending time with friends and family, reading and sewing.

Rebecca Darbyshire RVN

Rebecca joined Battle Flatts straight from school and qualified in 1997. She was originally based at Stamford Bridge before later becoming senior nurse at the Pocklington surgery. Rebecca has four wonderful ginger cats, Fergus, Rory, Austin, Walter, two parrots, chickens and a husband. Her hobbies are gardening and upholstery, and she has completed the Association of Masters Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers level 2 qualification and is currently working towards her level 3.

Rebecca McRae RVN

Rebecca joined the Battle Flatts team in 2019 as a second year student to complete her placement for training. After three years of training for her degree at Askham Bryan College she qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2021 and stayed with us since she was a student. She is mostly at the Stamford Bridge clinic but can sometimes be found at our Norton and Pocklington branches. Rebecca enjoys all aspects of nursing ranging from exotics, medical, emergency and assisting with surgical procedures. Outside of work Rebecca enjoys baking, eating out, going to the cinema and spending time with friends, family and especially her lab Thor.

Rebecca Ratcliffe RVN

Joined the Battle Flatts team in December 2022. Bex been working in vet practice since 2016 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from Askham Bryan in 2021. Bex enjoys all aspects of nursing especially medical nursing, emergency and critical care as well as nursing consults.

Shannon Stanton

Shannon grew up on the family smallholding with many animals, including horses, sheep, dogs, cats and a deer. The family currently have three cats and a tank full of fish. Shannon loves the outdoors, walking, running, any type of exercise really, especially when it is outside. She manly based at our Pocklington branch.

Stacey Tune RVN

Stacey started working for Battle Flatts in 2016 as a student veterinary nurse at our Pocklington branch. She studied her degree at Askham Bryan College and she qualified in 2018 and has since worked at our Norton branch. Stacey enjoys consulting and getting to know the pets and their owners. She also enjoys operating and nursing pets that come into the practice. At home she has three dogs Darcy, Megan and Percy and a cat that thinks she is a dog, Cilla. In her spare time she likes to be outdoors walking as well as reading and sewing when at home.

Suzaan Steyn

Suzaan qualified in 2018 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. After spending a year working in community clinics in Beaufort West she decided to move to the UK to further pursue her passion for small animal surgery. She is currently enrolled in a small animal surgery certificate and is looking forward to completing this in October 2023. In her free time she enjoys hiking, DIY and of course a good BBQ.

Wendy Britton

Wendy joined the practice May 2018 as a receptionist based at our Norton branch, however she covers for holidays at all four of our branches when needed. She lives in the country with her farmer partner and their three pooches, Izzy, Amber and Bella. She loves all animals, dogs especially, but also enjoys seeing the more exotic species that come into our Stamford Branch. Wendy also loves her holidays and is always jetting off somewhere new!
