I have direct experience of buying and converting a riverside home in Southern Brittany in the late 1990s, which we still own and which is an ideal holiday home with 3 en-suite double rooms, complete with boats and bicycles for exploring the area and its own cinema, bar and riverside garden. The 2014 project is to turn this into a Croquet Lawn!... Since then I have helped a substantial number of UK residents to buy land and manage a new build in France. Building land is still considerably cheaper than in the UK and much more available, so new builds can represent a great investment, often showing an immediate 20% rise in value on completion.
