PICKWELLBARTON

Pickwell Barton is a traditional working farm, with 500 ewes that lamb in March. The crops that are grown are wheat, barley, oats, beans, and Swedes. We also have cattle that are out in the fields during the summer and come into the barns during the winter... SPRING It's a busy time of the year down on the farm. Our 500 sheep are giving birth to their lambs during March. It's when all hands are on deck to help. At Pickwell Barton all the sheep come indoors to give birth. After 4 days, mum and their babies are taken out with the quad bike and trailer and put into the fields overlooking Putsborough and Woolacombe Beach! They love the view! They are put with 20 or so other sheep, this enables them to find their mums easier. It's very important that we help the sheep take great care of their little lambs and protect them from prey and the elements of the weather. Lambs don't like it wet and cold - nor do we!
