Dr Adam Haycock

Dr Haycock graduated from St Mary's Hospital (Imperial College) in 1999 and completed his specialist training in the North West Thames region in 2010. His specialist interests include colonoscopy and therapeutic endoscopy, and his research interest is on improving the quality of endoscopic training. He completed an MD at St Mark's Hospital in 2010 on quality assurance of endoscopy training. This included investigating and developing some novel techniques for assessing and evaluating training processes, including the use of advanced virtual reality simulation for colonoscopy. He has peer-reviewed publications arising from this research and has been invited to speak at both national and international meetings on the topic. He completed a teaching degree in 2011 leading to accreditation with the Higher Education Academy. He has been a consultant at St Mark's Hospital since 2011 and is the Training Lead for the Wolfson Unit for Endoscopy, a National Training Centre, training over 150 endoscopists annually. He was the Chair of the Federation of Endoscopy Training Centres from 2013-2016 and is currently part of the steering group for the National Non-Medical Endoscopy Accelerated Training Programme. Dr Haycock lives with his family in Buckinghamshire and enjoys cycling, running, tennis and painting.

Dr Adam Humphries

Dr Adam Humphries is a consultant gastroenterologist and specialist endoscopist at St Mark's Hospital, Harrow, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for intestinal disorders and endoscopy. He is the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy and his specialist interests include luminal gastroenterology, bowel cancer screening endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, video capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy. Dr Humphries also leads the small bowel endoscopy service at St Mark's Hospital, a national referral centre and one of only a few sites in the UK that provides double-balloon enteroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases. In 2007 Dr Humphries was awarded a Cancer Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship and subsequently gained a PhD in 2012 from University College London for his research into the biology of gastrointestinal tumours. He has published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, presented work at a variety of national and international meetings and published a number of book chapters. Dr Humphries' current academic interests include bowel cancer prevention, evolution of pre-cancerous growths within the gut and the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases. Dr Humphries qualified from Imperial College Medical School in 2002 and undertook his specialist gastroenterology training within London from 2005-2013. He then completed a fellowship in advanced and small bowel endoscopy at St Mark's Hospital before being appointed to the Consultant staff.

Dr Amar Sharif

Dr Sharif has been my GI Consultant for several years now. He always makes me feel at ease and never tries to rush me. Sandra T Dr Amar Sharif graduated in 1997, Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London with Distinction in Medicine, Surgery and Clinical Pharmacology/Therapeutics and was awarded Dean's Medal in Clinical Medicine, ED Blunt Prize in Clinical Medicine, Willliam Marsden Scholarship and Medal. His early medical training was at the prestigious Academic Department of Medicine, Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust and North West London NHS Hospitals. Dr Trip is a Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Northwick Park Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He studied at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and did postgraduate neurological training in London, mainly at the National Hospital, Queen Square. He completed a PhD at the UCL Institute of Neurology which looked at markers of axonal loss and myelination in patients with optic neuritis. He has published widely in leading international peer-reviewed journals. At Northwick Park, he has general neurology clinics, offers an in-patient neurology consultation service to other clinicians, and provides neurological input to the Regional Hyperactute Rehabilitation Unit. At Queen Square, he is Co-Chair of the Queen Square MS Centre and runs a large clinic for patients with multiple sclerosis and other related neuroinflammatory disorders but also has a clinic mainly for patients with headache syndromes. He also looks after in-patients with complex neurological problems at Queen Square. Dr Trip is the senior consultant neurologist at Northwick Park Hospital, having been appointed in 2009. He sees patients with all types of neurological problems and provides advice on the diagnosis and further treatment. He aims to offer a personalised service to local GPs and patients.

Dr Ayesha Akbar

Ayesha Akbar is a consultant gastroenterologist at St Mark's Hospital which is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for gastrointestinal disorders. She is the Research and Development (R&D) Director for her Trust and a Fellow of the Royal college of Physicians. Her broad experience covers general gastroenterology and she has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and functional GI disorders including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Her research work at Imperial College London gained her a PhD entitled "Molecular mechanisms of visceral hypersensitivity in the colon." She has published her research in peer reviewed journals and presented her work at national and international meetings. She is frequently invited to lecture both on IBD and IBS nationally and internationally, and to contribute to advisory boards as a key opinion leader. Ayesha studied medicine at the University of Manchester and was awarded an Honours degree. She has an outstanding academic record graduating top of her class and gaining several distinctions and honours along with prestigious prizes. Her postgraduate training was across several major teaching hospitals in London including Hammersmith Hospital, University College Hospital London and Royal London hospital. Ayesha was elected chair of the NGM committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) in 2015 and in this role she is actively involved in education and training. Dr Dan Ornadel qualified in medicine from Balliol College, Oxford University and St Thomas' Hospital Medical School. After training posts in London, he was awarded a Jules Thorne Fellowship to undertake research into the molecular biology of small cell lung cancer and to study the effect of targeting treatment in lung cancer patients with monoclonal antibodies. For this work he was awarded his MD degree at London University. As well as practicing in respiratory medicine, Dr Ornadel has responsibilities for the acute general medical service at Northwick Park. He has been lead physician for the acute admissions unit. He developed and lead the first respiratory high dependency unit at Northwick Park. He has been lead Lung Cancer Physician since 2000 and lead Respiratory Physician 2008-2015. He has been chair of the clinical governance and medical audit committees at Central Middlesex Hospital and has served as a member of the Harrow Ethics Committee. He was lead physician for intensive care at the Clementine Churchill Hospital for 5 years. In 2009, working with Richard Budgett, chief medical officer for 2012 Olympics, Dr Ornadel developed a respiratory assessment clinic at the Olympic Medical Institute for elite athletes with breathing difficulties. He was lead respiratory physician at the Olympic Village Polyclinic for athletes at the London 2012 Olympics. Dr. Ian Stone qualified in medicine from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2003 with honours in Physiology and obtaining a Bsc(hons) in Pharmacology and Toxicology. He was subsequently awarded a fellowship to undertake research into the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease a smoking related lung disease and its treatment on cardiac structure and function using advanced imaging techniques including cardiac MRI. The work undertaken has,and continues, to be presented at international conferences and resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and awards, including those from the British Lung Foundation. For this work he was awarded a PhD degree from the University of London. Prior to taking up his current post at Northwick park and Central Middlesex Hospitals Dr Ian Stone was the Consultant co-lead for the development of Integrated Respiratory Services in the Borough of Hillingdon. He was involved in GP training and organised public and patient education events. As part of that role Dr Stone worked as a Consultant at Harefield Hospital in sleep medicine and was the co-lead for the development of the unexplained breathlessness service. His current role Dr Stone manages patients with the entire range of respiratory conditions. He is currently the Trust Lead at LNWUH NHS trust for Sleep Medicine where over 500 sleep studies are undertaken and personally reported by Dr Stone. As a Consultant Respiratory Physician he is consulted about cough, breathlessness, wheezing, sputum, coughing up blood, chest pains, snoring, and all other symptoms related to the lungs. He treats patients with persistent cough, breathlessness, asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema COPD, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, chest infections, pneumonia, TB, bronchiectasis, pulmonary nodules, pleural disease, pleural effusion, pulmonary embolism, sarcoidosis, pneumothorax and sleep apnoea. He is an experienced bronchoscopist including standard and endobronchial ultrasound guided - EBUS - biopsies and undertakes respiratory fitness to fly testing and cardio-pulmonary exercise testing. Dr Stone has extensive experience of acute, general and emergency medicine. He is involved in the acute on-call rota at Northwick Park admitting up to 50 emergencies per day. Dr Chahal is a Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. Miss Carolynne Vaizey

Miss Carolynne Vaizey was educated at Cape Town University and then trained in General and Trauma Surgery up to Consultant level in Johannesburg. She is now the Chair of Surgery at St Mark's, the Lead Surgeon for Intestinal Failure and Director of the Sir Alan Park's Physiology Unit. Miss Vaizey has particular interests in the management of the intestinal failure, Crohn's, faecal incontinence, anal surgery and functional bowel disease. She has written 14 book chapters on her specialty interests and has 98 papers and editorials published.

Mr Gregory Thomas is a consultant colorectal surgeon at St Mark's Hospital. He has a specialist interest in pelvic floor disorders, abdominal wall hernia, proctology and other areas of benign colorectal pathology. He qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine (St Mary's Hospital) in 2003 with distinction in surgery and an intercalated BSc from Imperial College, London. His basic surgery training was undertaken in the northwest London region with further specialist training in southwest London and Surrey and at St Mark's Hospital. During his training, he undertook two years of research into pelvic floor disorders at St Mark's Hospital and was awarded an MD (Res) from Imperial College, London. He has maintained a strong research interest in this field. He has published around 40 peer reviewed papers and four text book chapters on pelvic floor and colorectal disorders. He has presented widely on these subjects at national and international meetings. 

He was awarded a travelling fellowship from the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland in 2016, and has spent time at the Cleveland Clinic Hospitals in Florida and Ohio USA, and at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nantes France. He was awarded the FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2016. Prior to his appointment at St Mark's Hospital, Mr Thomas was a consultant colorectal surgeon at Ashford and St Peter's NHS Trust in Surrey.
