Alison is a Consultant Nurse in Cardiology at the world famous Harefield Hospital in Middlesex. Alison has published extensively in medical, nursing and other journals and continues her research and direct patient contact, leading at the apheresis unit. Alison is a member of HEART UK's Healthcare Committee in addition to chairing HEART UK's Lipid Interest Group.

Dr Dermot Neely

Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine and Director of the Newcastle Supra-Regional Assay Services for Hormones and Cardiovascular Biomarkers, Lead Consultant for the Lipid and Metabolic Clinic, Royal Victoria Infirmary and Founder of the Lipid Specialists Advisory Group for the Regional Cardiovascular Network. An expert adviser on the NICE Lipid Modification Guidelines in 2008 (CG67) and member of the Guideline Development Group for the CG181 guideline in 2012-14. Standing Member of the NICE Diagnostics Advisory Committee 2014- present. His research interests are in cardiovascular biomarkers, inherited lipid disorders and clinical trials of novel lipid lowering therapies. Dr. Neely is a founder Trustee of the HEART UK.

Dr Dev Datta

Dr. Datta is clinical lead for the lipoprotein apheresis service in Cardiff and is medical lead for FH Wales, the Welsh Familial Hypercholesterolaemia cascade testing service. He runs a clinical nutrition service addressing medical complications of eating disorders and is clinical lead for the specialist weight management service in Cardiff. His research interests are in FH and vascular biology. Dr Datta is Course Director for the distance learning MSc in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine at University of South Wales.

Dr Handrean Soran - Chairman

Dr Handrean Soran is Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist & Honorary Senior Lecturer at Manchester University Trust. He has a specialist interest in lipidology, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk, parathyroid, calcium and bone metabolism. He provides a tertiary centre service for lipoprotein disorders, as well as calcium and metabolic bone diseases. His research work is mainly focused on cardiovascular risk, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) quality, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) functionality, micro- and macro-vascular complications of diabetes & obesity and the effect of metabolic surgery induced weight loss as well as pharmacological agents on these complications. Dr Soran is on the editorial board of Atherosclerosis Journal. Dr Soran authored more than 140 peer reviewed publications and a number of book chapters. Dr Soran is the Chair of HEART UK's medical, scientific and research committee, co-chair of the National Familial Hypercholesterolemia task force in UK and a member of UK lipoprotein apheresis committee. He also served as President of the Lipid and Vascular Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and remains a member of the section's council.

Dr Peter Green - Chairman

Dr. Green has been a GP in Kent for over 30 years. He has always been interested in quality of care and systems that can be developed to support this. It's this desire to make things easier for clinicians and better for patients that led him into his work on Familial Hypercholesterolaemia. He demonstrated that it is possible to systematically identify patients with Familial Hypercholesterolaemia in Primary Care.

Dr. Alan Rees

Dr. Alan Rees is a retired Consultant Physician who was based at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with a special interest in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. He is a joint author of the Joint British Guidelines for the Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease, section editor of Current Opinion in Lipidology and member of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Diabetes and Vascular Disease and was previous Chair of the Royal Society of Medicine Lipid Section. Dr. Rees has published over 130 peer reviewed papers in the field of diabetes and the dyslipidaemias and has a long standing interest in the molecular genetics of atherosclerosis and the dyslipidaemias. He is previous Secretary of the British Hyperlipidaemia Association, which joined to form HEART UK.

Jules has a passion for supporting patients, families and those affected by high cholesterol and has been instrumental in establishing HEART UK as the leading charity with expertise in cholesterol and lipid conditions. Jules Payne, the Chief Executive is responsible to the Trustees for the day-to-day running of the charity and executing the strategy and policies decided by the Trustees.

Neil has experience in implementing best business practices as part of continuous business process improvement programmes and is passionate about producing insightful and actionable reporting. Neil also volunteers as a general advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau."

Prof Liz Hughes

Professor Elizabeth Hughes is Regional Dean and Director of education and Quality for Health Education (London and South East). In this role she is responsible for the training of junior doctors, dentists, and non-medical healthcare professionals throughout the London and South East region. She is director of the Sandwell Medical Research Unit, a leading UK centre for research into diabetes and heart disease particularly focusing on research on cardiovascular risk in the South Asian Community on which she has published widely. Prof Hughes was formerly treasurer of both the Family Heart and British Hyperlipidaemia Associations and then Chairman of the FHA before both organisations merged to become HEART UK. She has worked extensively with patient partnerships
