Alan Rolfe

Job Titles:
  • Senior Tax Manager
Alan is our Senior Tax Manager and has years' experience of assisting clients with VAT, PAYE/NIC, personal and corporate tax advice. Alan specialises in Corporation Tax, reviewing all Corporation Tax computations of the firm. He is also a specialist VAT and PAYE/NIC adviser and is responsible for undertaking the firm's PAYE/NIC and VAT health check service. Alan also works closely with our Academy school clients advising on VAT matters including whether to register or claim, exempt supplies and the impact of trading subsidiaries.

Alan Williams

Job Titles:
  • Director
Alan jointly founded the firm in 1985 and now works for a range of clients - from entrepreneurial start-ups to businesses with a turnover in excess of £25 million.

Amanda Cooley

Job Titles:
  • Payroll Manager
Amanda joined HWB at the start of 2021 and brings with her over 20 years' experience in payroll and management systems. She was promoted to Payroll Manager in 2022 for all her hard work in our payroll team. Amanda is responsible for managing the whole of the payroll team to ensure all aspects of client's end to end payroll are dealt with in an accurate and timely manner.

Andrew Kershaw

Andrew provides high-quality advice and service to our clients and has expertise in the Healthcare sector and is an expert in Online Accounting. Andrew joined HWB following our merger with Smith Acreman in 2004. He qualified in 2004 and became a fellow of ACCA (FCCA) in 2009. He works closely with his clients and continues to provide high-quality advice and service. In recognition of this he was promoted to Associate Director in June 2012 and Director in 2022. Andrew is an expert in Online Accounting and has expertise in the Healthcare sector - in particular dentists. Andrew also specialises in assisting small and medium-sized entities (including start ups).

Gary Brown

Job Titles:

Gary joined the team when HWB merged with Rossell Hicks in 2006. He trained and qualified with Rossell Hicks, gaining experience on small and medium sized entities including solicitor and other professional firms, and has expanded his experience in recent years to include Corporate Finance. Gary heads up the legal specialism team at HWB, advising many of our solicitor clients and helping them to meet their compliance requirements. In addition to this, Gary has responsibility for managing a wide portfolio of clients, ranging from small businesses to large audit clients and academy schools, as one of our 7 registered auditors. Gary is also our Head of Legal Practice and one of our Authorised Individuals licensed to undertake Probate work.

Gemma Hedges

Job Titles:

Gemma advises on a broad range of tax issues for owner managed businesses. She specialises Estate Planning and Probate and is our resident Inheritance Tax expert. Gemma joined HWB in January 2020 from a Top 4 Accountancy firm and was promoted to Associate Director in July 2021 and then to a full Director in June 2023. Gemma brings with her 13+ years experience in private client tax and advises on a broad range of tax issues with particular expertise in owner-managed businesses, tax enquiries, Inheritance Tax, Trusts and Estates. She is a member of STEP (Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners) and Student Liaison Office for the Central Southern branch. Gemma is also one of our Authorised Individuals for undertaking Probate work.

James Alesbury

Director James Alesbury and Shelley Harding attended Paris Smith's Employment Law Seminar at St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday. Thank you to @ParisSmithLLP for hosting such an informative and useful seminar! #parissmith #employmentlaw James is a specialist in payroll and auto enrolment for the SME market. James has a background in accountancy, payroll and human resources, becoming a full member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) in 2008. He has worked within a variety of sectors for companies such as Hampshire County Council, Matchtech Group PLC, Solvay Pharmaceuticals Ltd and B&Q PLC. James joined us in October 2010 to help develop and promote our payroll service.

James Flood

James has been with HWB since 2007, having qualified in 2013 through the firms student training programme. He advises our owner managed business client base who require audits, specialises in CAA registered organisations, such as travel agents and acts as an auditor for many of our Academy Schools. James was promoted to Associate Director in October 2020 and Director in 2022. James is a keen sports person, playing both Golf and football regularly. James is an HWB Director specialising in advising and auditing owner managed businesses.

Martin Back

Job Titles:

Martin leads the tax team who handle a variety of matters, from simple repayment claims to the most complex tax returns.

Matt Cooper

Job Titles:
  • Associate Director
Matt joined HWB in September 2014 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2017. He was promoted to Associate Director in 2023. Matt has worked with a range of clients from smaller, owner-managed businesses to larger groups and corporates with turnovers in excess of £50 million.

Michaela Johns

Job Titles:

Michaela joined HWB from a large regional firm, where she was a partner for over a decade. Having been in the profession for many years, she brings experience to her clients and uses her extensive knowledge to assist owner managed businesses (OMBs) with business strategy, development and growth. Michaela also works closely with independent schools, academies and charities across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset and is an experienced auditor for all businesses. She is keen to put back into the local community and is involved in a few charities. Since joining HWB, Michaela's responsibilities have also spread to Marketing. Michaela uses her extensive knowledge to assist owner managed businesses (OMBs) and Charities with business strategy, development and growth.

Nick Whitemore

Nick joined HWB as a Senior Business Advisor in October 2022. Nick qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2012, attaining Fellowship in 2017 and has an honours degree in Business & Finance. He was promoted to Associate Director in January 2024. During his career, Nick has gained wide experience across many sectors and has worked with various corporate clients from smaller owner-managed businesses to large international groups. Nick's client-base reflects this and he is happy to assist businesses and individuals with accounting or taxation services as required. Nick is an Associate Director who works with clients across a range of sectors and sizes, from corporate clients to smaller owner-managed businesses.

Tom Young

Tom has been with HWB since he began his training in 2007. He was promoted to Business Adviser in 2014, and Associate Director in 2022. Tom is responsible for a range of clients from Sole Traders to Large Businesses with a turnover in excess of £20m. He also helps manage the accounts team. Tom specialises in the property sector. Tom specialises in the Property sector to assist our property clients.

Tracy Jenkins - Managing Director

Tracy is our Managing Director and manages the processes of the business, implementing new company policies when needed and managing the day to day operations of HWB. Tracy was previously our Operations and Tax Director for many years. She is responsible for the resources and processes required in order to deliver accounts and tax work in line with our clients expectations and deadlines. Tracy is also responsible for our HR function, keeping us up to date with changes in employment legislation and looking after our 70 strong workforce. Tracy is our Managing Director, responsible for managing the day to day of HWB.
