Cian has been IMI's Chief Operating Officer since September 2020, and Deputy CEO since April 2021.
Cian is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years' experience in finance, operations, risk and governance, in sectors including education, professional services, aviation and technology.
Prior to IMI he worked as a management consultant with Accenture, as a partner with Grant Thornton - where he was responsible for governance, risk, control and internal audit services - and as Head of Internal Audit and Group Treasurer with Ryanair. He has lectured in Corporate Governance, and he now serves as a non-executive director with the Irish Aviation Authority, the Cork International Film Festival, and Limor, a social media startup.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Law, diplomas in Corporate Governance and Aviation Financing, and a master's degree in Risk Management from New York University Stern School of Business. In his spare time he enjoys motorcycling, flying, diving and watching movies.

Drawing from her extensive experience, notably in leadership positions at Vela Games and Riot Games, Emer possesses a strategic outlook and unwavering dedication to crafting exceptional workplace environments. Shane O'Sullivan joined IMI as Interim CEO in January 2023. He is an experienced Business Leader and C-Suite Executive, with a track record of delivering results in roles that range from Chief Executive to Chief Operating Officer to Committee Chair.
Immediately prior to his appointment, Shane worked with companies and individuals eager to achieve an edge in business, helping them to identify the aspects of strategy, leadership, team and personal performance that realise this goal. Shane was an Executive Committee member at Permanent TSB Plc between 2012 and 2021, a period of very significant transformation and renewal for that organisation.
With first-hand experience of building teams in business scenarios that include start-up, scale-up, transformation and M&A, Shane understands how to formulate business strategy and he enjoys the dynamic of working with key interest groups be they customers, investors / shareholders, analysts, media, regulators, government departments / politicians.
Shane holds a first-class MBA from DCU, in addition to the Chartered Director (IOD) and Certified Bank Director (IOB) qualifications. In addition, he is a Non-Executive Director at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

As the Director of Education Services and Quality (IMI Registrar), Tara has responsibility for academic quality and governance in IMI, in particular ensuring the discharge of its related responsibilities as a subsidiary of University College Cork. She leads the development of IMI's quality ecosystem as a whole, as well as the Registry and Customer Experience functions. She is member of the expert review panels for QQI; SKVC, Lithuania; and ENQA, acting as chair, secretary or quality enhancement expert.
Tara has worked in a variety of public and private institutions, and always in Higher Education. Immediately prior to taking up the role of Registrar with IMI, she led the registry team in Hibernia College as Registrar there, having joined Hibernia from DĂșn Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology where Tara held the post of Educational Partnerships and Student Services Manager. Tara also served interesting period as Head of Provider Registration at the Higher Education & Training Awards Council (HETAC) (subsequently established as Quality and Qualifications Ireland - QQI) 2008 - 2012. In earlier times, she worked at Tipperary Institute, Ireland; the University of Limpopo and Edupark, Polokwane, South Africa; and at University College, Dublin.
Tara has a particular interest in the regulation and governance of higher education, transnational higher education, globalisation and internationalisation. In the past she has participated in higher education review activities in a variety of contexts and roles in Ireland, as well as in reviews in Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Germany, Romania and Tanzania. Tara holds a Master of Arts in English from University College Dublin and a Diploma in Legal Studies from Technology University Dublin, and she graduated from the University of Bristol with an EdD in 2013.
