KADECT was founded in 2001 with the mission to set up and run schools for deaf children in under privileged areas. The first school was set up in 2004 in the village of Charhoi, in the south-eastern part of Pakistani Kashmir. After the success of the first school Kashmir, in 2012 KADECT opened their first deaf school in The Gambia, in a town called Basse, in the remote eastern part of the country. And in 2015 another unit for deaf children was opened in a school in the region of Essau. After seeing the great impact these units were having on the deaf children, the units at both schools were enlarged to accommodate even more deaf children to come to school... KADECT was set-up by Mohammed Akhtar based in St Albans, UK, whose daughter Shabana is deaf. He realised that she was able to access an education and receive the support needed to thrive in her future, however in his home region of Kashmir the situation for the many deaf children there, was very different. This led him to start..
