Late 1920s and early 1930s are said to have witnessed a structural revolution in aeronautics with the appearance of streamlined metal aircraft. Transition from wood to all-metal airplanes was completed by World War II. Ships switched from wood to metal by 1912. In 1916, Dodge was the first automaker to offer a vehicle with an all-steel body. The use of wood in auto construction gradually diminished, with American automakers phasing out their classic "woodie" wagons in the 1950s.
