ADVANCED RETINA CENTER - Key Persons

Dr. Nishi Gulati

Having expertise and formally trained with world renowned experts in the field of retina and uvea at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami and Mount Sinai Hospital in NY, Dr. Gulati brings a depth of knowledge and experience to diagnose and manage complex disorders. Dr. Nishi Gulati, originally from New Jersey, completed one of the few highly selective and prestigious combined six-year accelerated premedical-medical program, with her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. She received her medical doctorate degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. After completing her internship at Jefferson Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, Dr. Gulati did her ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent's Hospital of New York (Manhattan) and New York Medical College, serving as chief resident in her final year. She then went on to complete both a Uveitis and Ocular Immunology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital and a Medical Retina fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami Health System. During her years in clinical practice, she has collaborated with physicians across multiple specialties to provide the utmost comprehensive care for patients, and has also taught and guided ophthalmology residents in retinal care. She has also given numerous presentations and lectures to a variety of medical professionals. She chose ophthalmology during medical school when asked to select an area of medicine to explore further and was paired with a great mentor whose passion for the specialty furthered her interest. He introduced her to a prominent retina specialist with whom she did research, further solidifying her choice of ophthalmology as a career. While training as an ophthalmology resident, the assistant program director, a retina specialist, was very involved with resident education. Through lectures, seeing a variety of interesting and challenging cases together both in clinic and in the hospital, and being in the operating room with him, she discovered how interesting the retina could be. He also genuinely showed care for their education, but equally importantly, a commitment to serving patients. This mentorship helped lead her to retina and uveitis as her subspecialty choices. The assistant program director was Dr. Woo. Says Dr. Gulati: "I'm glad to now be working alongside him as his medical partner." Outside of work, she loves to travel the world - and has visited Iceland, Croatia, and Machu Picchu to name only a few favorites. An avid tennis fan, and sports fan in general, she also enjoys hiking, making vegetarian meals and desserts, and reading fiction novels. She speaks Hindi fluently.
