Bob Hawboldt

Bob is a Mechanical Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in hydraulic analysis and design. Bob specializes in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and hydraulic transient analysis for pipelines, tanks, and pumping stations. As Associated Engineering's National Practice Leader in fluid dynamics, he provides advice, advanced analysis, modelling, and technical support on a wide variety of projects across Canada. He has conducted 3-dimensional CFD analysis to optimize design layout to achieve acceptable flow conditions His analysis and design advice has helped to improve layout and design of pumping stations and tanks. Bob has helped to improve mixing and eliminate stagnation of fluids in reservoirs. For operating facilities, Bob's analysis has helped to optimize flow conditions over a range of flow rates while minimizing modifications to structures. Bob's analysis is often used to determine what physical modelling should be undertaken, or to complement physical modelling.

Brent Phillips

Brent leads our Environmental Division, responsible for planning, business development, project delivery, and staff development. Previously, he was Manager of the Environmental Assessment team in our Vernon office. Brent has more than 25 years of strategic advisory experience in environmental science and management. His diverse background includes aquatic and terrestrial ecology; with a focus on environmental impact assessment. Brent specializes in assessment of instream flow needs for fish and other aquatic resources potentially affected by altered flow regimes; impact mitigation planning for infrastructure projects; habitat restoration; environmental permitting processes, and regulator liaison. He has participated in and managed studies for a broad range of private and public sector clients, including all levels of government, First Nations, and clients in the mining, forestry, transportation, oil and gas, hydropower, and real estate development sectors. His projects have included roads, highways, railways, airports, urban developments, hydropower, forestry, and mine developments. Brent has volunteered with the College of Applied Biology of BC on the Credentials Committee.

Carma Holmes

Chris Skowronski

Previously, Chris was Division Manager, Central Alberta Infrastructure, based in our Edmonton office. Chris is a Senior Civil Engineer with more than 30 years of experience specializing in the planning, feasibility studies, design, project management, contract administration, and construction of roads, utilities, water, wastewater and stormwater services. Chris is a specialist in infrastructure renewal using trenchless technologies, such as tunnelling. In addition, he brings a breadth of experience on projects for the public and private sector, including commercial and residential land development, marinas, and recreational facilities. Chris also has extensive experience developing infrastructure for Federal facilities.

Corinna Hoodicoff

Corinna is a Senior Biologist with 18 years of experience specializing in terrestrial and landscape ecology. Her key areas of focus include environmental assessment, environmental planning, mitigation and post-construction monitoring. Corinna has led and managed projects with multi-disciplinary teams throughout Western Canada. She has project experience in a variety of client sectors, including transportation, mining, renewable energy, civil infrastructure, and urban and rural development. With a proven track record in supporting projects through regulatory permitting processes, Corinna is familiar with permitting process as required by the BC Environmental Assessment Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Navigation Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, and BC Wildlife Act and Water Act.

Dale Loewen

Dale is a Business Process Manager and is responsible for corporate-wide initiatives that help improve the execution of internal and external projects. He has over 35 years of experience specializing in municipal infrastructure engineering. Dale has a strong background in project management. He oversaw the company's internal project management training program from 2000 to 2005, and continues to train, coach and mentor aspiring project managers. Previously, Dale served as the Vice President and General Manager of our Southern Alberta operation and he was also Manager of the Municipal Infrastructure Group in our Calgary office. His experience includes assessments, design and construction of stormwater management systems, sanitary sewerage systems, water supply and transmission systems, water and wastewater treatment projects, highways, airport infrastructure, and recreational/site development projects. A specialist in disaster recovery, disaster risk reduction, and community resiliency planning, Dana recently served as the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo's Recovery Team Leader for the Recovery Task Force, following the devastating 2016 Fort McMurray Wildfire. As Managing Director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, he led the province's response to the 2011 Slave Lake Wildfire, and as Deputy Minister of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, Dana led the environmental remediation approach for the 2013 Southern Alberta Flood and all wildfire operations in Alberta.

David Kuryk - CFO

Along with his Chartered Professional Accountant designation, David holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Alberta. David Nagy

David is a Senior Project Manager and Bridge Engineer with 18 years of experience specializing in the delivery of transportation and bridge projects. His experience encompasses various delivery models, including design-bid-build, design build, P3, program management, and construction management. Having worked on complex projects exceeding $1 billion, David brings expertise in business case development, project scoping, project delivery evaluation, and risk management. As National Practice Lead, David provides leadership and support for the company's pursuit of major and alternative delivery projects, collaborating with management and senior techical leaders across the company. David originally joined Associated Engineering in 2015 as the Manager of the Bridge group in Calgary. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's of Business Administration. David is an active volunteer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA). Dean Shiskowski

As Vice President, Water Resource Recovery, Dean provides technical support and guidance to staff and clients on wastewater management projects. Prior to taking on this role, Dean was a Water Resource Recovery Specialist in our BC operation. Based in Victoria, Dean is a Senior Environmental Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in wastewater management and water resource recovery and reuse. He specializes in nutrient removal, greenhouse gas management, and resource recovery projects. His experience encompasses planning, pilot testing, treatability studies, treatment system performance reviews, wastewater treatment simulation, effluent dilution-dispersion modelling, design, and climate change vulnerability assessments. Dean's experience includes municipal wastewater treatment as well as high-BOD/COD food processing and industrial wastewater treatment. Dean also brings expertise in public consultation and triple bottom line + risk evaluations. Dean is active with the Water Environment Research Foundation and the BC Water and Waste Association. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor in Civil (Environmental) Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Dean chairs Associated Engineering's Carbon Neutral Committee.

Denis Michaud

Denis is the Quality Manager and leads or provides support in implementing and maintaining quality systems for many of Associated Engineering's major projects. He is also responsible for the support, development, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of the company's own Quality Management Programs and other management systems and corporate standards. Denis works to help others understand the need and challenge of integrating the practice of quality in the administration and operation of the design and construction of transportation, infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects. He is a certified Quality Management System Auditor with the International Register of Certificated Auditors and has served in key quality management roles for major infrastructure projects in Western Canada.

Doug Olson

As Senior Vice President, Water, Doug provides leadership, technical support and guidance for water supply, water treatment and water resource recovery projects across Canada. He provides advice on technical standards and guidelines for water treatment design and construction services, as well as recruitment and business development. Doug joined Associated Engineering in 1988 and with more than 30 years of experience, Doug is a recognized leader in water supply and treatment. Doug has held a variety of roles within the company over the years including Process Designer, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Manager of the Water Group in Calgary, Corporate Water Technical Leader, Vice President, Water Engineering, and a director on the Senior Board of Directors. He has participated in and led master planning, piloting, design, construction, commissioning, and project management of some of the largest water treatment plants in Canada, including the Glenmore and Bearspaw Water Treatment Plants in Calgary and the R.C. Harris and R.L. Clark Water Treatment Plants in Toronto. He brings technical expertise in pumping systems, conventional water treatment, membrane filtration, dissolved air floatation, high rate ballasted flocculation, ultraviolet disinfection, and residuals management. As an active volunteer, Doug has participated on technical, professional and industry organizations including the American Water Works Association, Western Canada Water, Consulting Engineers of Alberta, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

He specializes in small water systems, and is passionate about systems optimization to maximize the potential of water treatment assets. Garry's experience includes project management, feasibility studies, planning, pilot testing, design, construction, start-up, commissioning, training, process optimization, and troubleshooting. Garry has authored and presented many papers on water supply and treatment, both locally and internationally. Garry is also an instructor/trainer for water and wastewater operator certification and training programs. He is an active volunteer with Western Canada Water and the American Water Works Association. In recognition of his technical achievements and volunteer efforts in the water industry, the AWWA presented Garry with the George Warren Fuller Award.

Specializing in structural engineering, Helder has participated in buildings, bridges, transportation, solid waste management, water supply and treatment, and wastewater treatment projects across Alberta, as well as in BC and the Northwest Territories. Helder's experience includes design of small commercial and recreational buildings, as well as large industrial facilities and bridges. Helder is an active volunteer with the Consulting Engineers of Alberta, serving on its Board of Directors. He previously served as President of Finning (Canada) for 11 years, retiring in 2008 after 30 years with the firm. He helped the company become one of the largest and most successful Caterpillar equipment distributors in the world. Ian serves on a number of boards, including the Canadian Western Bank Group and Fountain Tire. Ian was also a member of the Provincial Audit Committee for the Province of Alberta. Ian holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

Jason Lueke

A Civil Engineer, Jason has more than 20 years of experience in the consulting, construction, education, and research sectors. Jason specializes in trenchless engineering and construction, including horizontal directional drilling, tunnelling, micro-tunnelling cured-in-place-pipe relining, pipe bursting, auger boring, and pipe ramming. As National Practice Leader, Trenchless Technologies, Jason provides advice on feasibility studies, designs, risk management, constructability, tendering, and construction. Prior to rejoining Associated Engineering in 2012, he served 3½ years as an Assistant Professor and Senior Sustainability Scientist in the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University, where he taught soil mechanics and researched trenchless methods. An active volunteer, Jason served on the Board of Directors for the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT); and is an instructor for their Lateral Sewer Rehabilitation, Horizontal Directional Drilling, and Pipe Bursting Best Practices Courses. Jason co-authored the NASTT Good Practices Manual for trenchless rehabilitation of lateral sewers. In 2010, Jason received NASTT's Trent Ralston Award for Early Career Achievement in the field of Trenchless Technology.

Jim Zagas

Jim has over 30 years of experience delivering highway infrastructure projects in Alberta. He has effectively managed large teams of engineering and technical professionals on complex multi-year transportation projects. Jim has been a key project team member on many large-scale infrastructure and transportation projects in the capital value range of 20 million up to 550 million. Recently, he has played a key role on major projects in southern Alberta, including the West Calgary Ring Road, Deerfoot Trail Improvements, the Flanders Avenue Interchange, Crowchild Trail Short-Term Improvements, and ongoing service to the City of Airdrie, including the QEII/40th Avenue Interchange.

John van der Eerden

Previously, John was Manager of the Water Resources Group in our BC operation. John is a Senior Civil Engineer with over 30 years of experience specializing in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, watershed management, flood control, dyking, drainage, and river engineering. His experience includes planning, modelling, analysis, design, construction, and commissioning. He has a strong interest in best management practices for stormwater management and climate change adaptation and mitigation. He is a recognized specialist in flood control and use of geographical information systems to enhance project deliverables. He was a co-author of the Dike Design and Construction Guide, Best Management Practices for BC. John is a Provincial Director of the Canadian Water Resources Association and sits on the National Executive Board.

José Bicudo

Judy Yu

Juliana Tang

Juliana Tang is a Geo-Environmental Engineer with 18 years of experience in environmental engineering consulting. Juliana is a key team member in various environmental projects, including municipal and industrial containment systems, such as landfills, sewage lagoons, industrial waste ponds, and brine ponds. Her experience includes design, construction, regulatory compliance and application, environmental construction and operations planning. She has conducted solid waste and wastewater studies to assist municipalities in long-term planning and operations. She has extensive experience in the design and installation of geosynthetics in containment systems and in erosion and sedimentation control.

Kent Eklund

Since joining our Edmonton office in 2014, he has helped to grow our Transportation Division, overseeing the delivery of key projects including Edmonton's Capital Line LRT Extension, St. Albert Transportation Master Plan, St. Albert Transit Centre and Park & Ride, and Alberta Transportation's Highway 43 Functional Planning and Design.

Kerry Rudd - Chairman

Kerry encourages continuing professional development and corporate social responsibility. He supports our young professionals and women in science and engineering. Throughout his career, Kerry has given back to our profession and the community, volunteering with ACEC-BC, ACEC-Canada, and EGBC. He has contributed to organizations such as BCIT Transystems, the Project Management Institute, Public Works Inspectors Society, and the Science Alberta Foundation. Leslie Mihalik

Leslie has 30 years of experience specializing in design, construction, and project management of transportation projects on projects across Canada, South Africa, and in the Caribbean. His diverse experience includes highway, pedestrian, and railway bridges; bridge rehabilitation and widening projects; buildings; drainage structures; structures for port facilities; mine structures; material handling structures; and shiploaders. Having worked extensively in Canada's Northern territories, Leslie has expertise in the design and construction of infrastructure and transportation projects in Cold Regions. Leslie's experience includes traditional design-bid-build as well as alternative delivery projects. On Public Private Partnership projects, Leslie has acted as Independent Certifier, Owner's Engineer, and Design Manager on numerous projects.

As a design engineer and project manager, Lianna specialized in the planning, assessment, design and construction of water and wastewater treatment and civil infrastructure projects. Her experience includes projects across Canada and in the Caribbean. Lianna is an active volunteer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), and has served as a Councillor and President. She has participated on a number of initiatives for Engineers Canada, as well as committees for the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia (ACEC-BC) and the Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science and Technology. In recognition of her work with these organizations, Lianna received EGBC's Professional Service Award and the designation of Fellow from Engineers Canada. Marta Green

Marta is a regional director with the BC Groundwater Association, and is a valuable member of the BC Water and Waste Association (BCWWA) Drinking Water Committee and the Okanagan Water Stewardship Council. Marta has over 20 years of environmental consulting experience in Western and Northern Canada, managing simple to complex water related technical studies, leading clients through regulatory processes, and securing environmental approvals. Her project experience encompasses groundwater-use water licence applications, groundwater availability and quality studies for local government and Health Authority approval, well drilling and testing for agricultural and industrial water supply, Source Protection Plans and pathogen testing for drinking water suppliers, Environmental Impact Assessments for the agricultural and development sectors, water quality studies for wastewater projects, and Water Supply and Demand, and Hydraulic Connection studies for watershed-scale projects. Marta understands client goals and manages multi-disciplinary teams to meet client and regulator expectations. Matthew has 25 years of consulting, engineering, and project management experience in a wide range of sectors, including municipal infrastructure, water, wastewater, institutional, buildings and transit. His experience includes projects in Canada and the United Kingdom. Matt has expertise in capital planning, asset management and integration, and project delivery. Matthew is a Chartered Civil Engineer in the United Kingdom, where he held senior positions with Southern Water before moving to Canada in 2011.

Melanie Piorecky

Melanie has worked throughout Western Canada as a terrestrial ecologist for the past 16 years. Her experience includes project management, vegetation and wildlife inventories, ecological land classification, rangeland management, sustainable agriculture, environmental impact assessments, reclamation planning and monitoring, and waste management. Melanie is a Terrestrial Ecologist as well as Restoration and Reclamation Lead at Associated. Recently, Melanie has managed, and contributed to, complex environmental projects. She has over 9 years of experience managing large, multi-disciplinary projects. She has provided technical expertise to vegetation survey design, inventory methods, and data analysis. Melanie has developed environmental management and mitigation plans for biophysical projects in the transportation, transmission, land development, agricultural, and oil and gas sectors. She has a keen understanding of ecological function in relation to landscape resources use and of techniques for restoring affected ecological function.

Michael Paulsen

A graduate of the University of Alberta, Mike's career has taken him to Denmark and New Zealand, before settling back home in Edmonton. Mike joined Associated in 2005 for three years, and then returned to the company in 2010 as a Structural/Bridge Engineer. Over the years, he has taken on roles of increasing responsibility, most recently, Division Manager, Transportation in Alberta North. His 20 years of experience includes the analysis, design, management, and assessment of a wide variety of transportation structures, including pedestrian, roadway, heavy rail, and LRT bridges.

Michael Tolboom

Michael has over 25 years of experience in graphic design and strategic communications, comprising Creative Director roles for a boutique international design firm and, more recently, for Associated. Michael provides visual communication design consultation for clients, including identity (logo) development and management, website development and maintenance, photography, videography and motion graphics, technical illustration, and campaign development. Michael excels at interpreting and translating technical language into visual communications that engage the audience and are easily understood. Michael is a Certified Design Professional with DesCan.

Nadeer Lalji

Nadeer is the Vice President & General Manager of our Alberta South operation. In this role, Nadeer is responsible for managing the operation, including business development, project delivery, and staff development. Previously, he was Manager of the Municipal Infrastructure Group in our Calgary office. Nadeer has almost 20 years of experience in infrastructure and water resources engineering and project management. He has successfully managed and delivered projects from the planning level through design and construction for both the public and private sector. Nadeer's technical experience includes modelling, design and construction support of water, wastewater and stormwater management infrastructure as well as river engineering. He has led major municipal water resources and linear infrastructure projects, including the Consulting Engineers of Alberta award-winning City of Calgary Northwest Inner-City Drainage Study project, and the 37 th Street SW Storm Trunk Relocation project in Calgary. Having worked as a client prior to working for clients, Nadeer believes in providing exceptional, responsive, client service through communication on project risks, schedules, and budgets. He thrives in finding optimal solutions for multiple stakeholders through collaboration. Owen James

Owen has over 20 years of experience in asset management of public infrastructure for clients across Canada and the UK. He has helped many clients to develop corporate standards, policy and frameworks related to asset management. His asset management approach considers risks, level of service, and whole-life costing. Owen brings an owner's perspective to his projects gained from previous roles as a manager within a water utility responsible for strategy development, capital program management, engineering standards, and other operational roles. Owen's experience includes a Climate Change Risk Assessment for Anglian Water's 6000+ water and wastewater facilities, as well as asset management planning across 12 business units for The City of Calgary. The Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) awarded The City of Calgary and Associated Engineering with the Tereo Award for developing the City's asset management plans and instituting business improvement in asset planning across Calgary. Owen was involved in developing ISO 55000 - the international standard on asset management systems released in January 2014.

Paul Hague

Paul is a Professional Forester with more than 30 years of experience managing multi-disciplinary teams for environmental services and forest land management in Canada and New Zealand. His background encompasses environmental monitoring and permitting, planning, impact assessments for land development, and developing effective mitigation and restoration strategies. Paul also specializes in operational, tactical, and strategic forest land-use planning, forest stand modifications to accommodate various resource values, visual impact analysis, and wildfire interface management.

His experience includes conceptual design, functional planning, detailed design, design management, project management, contract administration, construction administration and construction management. He has participated in the design and construction of highways across Saskatchewan. An active volunteer, Paul is involved with the Saskatchewan Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association, Transportation Association of Canada, and the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Saskatchewan.

Rebekka Lindskoog

A Senior Environmental Scientist, Rebekka has almost 25 years of experience as an environmental professional across BC, Northern Canada, and Washington State. Rebekka leads the delivery of customized software and GIS solutions for managing and reporting environmental information. She also leads the Environmental Management Group, which provides contaminated sites and sediment and erosion control services. Rebekka's broad experience with collection and analysis of data, development of field protocols, assessment of environmental impacts, investigations of contaminated sites, and reporting lends to seamless and effective management of these multi-disciplinary groups. Rebekka has managed several large-scale, multi-year projects, and coordinated multi-disciplinary project teams. Her approach is to work closely with clients to determine project objectives, and collaborate with the project team to deliver on client expectations.

Rob Kupchanko

Rob has over 25 years of experience in consulting, encompassing environmental earth science, hydrology, and natural resource management. As National Practice Leader, Contaminated Sites, Rob plays a leadership role in business development and strategic planning on company-wide growth of the contaminated sites practice. He has managed or led more than 400 contaminated sites investigations in Northern Canada, BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Rob has directed the remediation of a wide range of industrial and commercial properties. He has completed several senior reviews and performed technical advisory roles for several Phase I and II ESA projects across Western Canada.

Sandra Meidinger

Sandra is a Biologist and Senior Environmental Scientist with over 17 years of experience in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem assessment, wildlife inventory, environmental impact assessment, impact mitigation planning, and environmental monitoring. She has significant experience collaborating with provincial and federal agencies, as well as with developers, private property owners and local governments. Sandra has managed and completed several environmental impact assessments for development on First Nation reserves throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. She works closely with property stakeholders, including First Nations and local governments to ensure compliance with regulations and permitting requirements for development in and around environmentally significant areas. As Manager of the Northern Alberta Environmental Sciences Division, Sandra is responsible for maintaining and developing client relationships, communicating on all aspects of project needs, and ensuring quality control of project deliverables and proposals. She is an effective project manager and has considerable experience working with and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
