Andy Geissmann

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Executive Team
  • Head of Sheep & Goat / Milking Components
Andy has been the driving force behind the company's advancement in the emerging sheep and niche goat dairy industries since he joined Waikato Milking Systems in 2019. He is originally from Switzerland but has been working in the New Zealand dairy farming sector for more than 20 years, bringing a wealth of international dairy knowledge to the company. Andy began to specialise in small ruminant milking systems in the mid 2000s. His experience and interest in sheep and goat dairy has accelerated our efforts to become an international leader in small ruminant milking systems. Andy has worked hard to understand the fast-developing sheep and goat dairy sectors so the company can provide farmers with the correct solutions, the right equipment and technology backed by reliable support no matter where in the world they are. That included developing the concept of designing separate milking systems for goats and another specifically for sheep, recognising the unique behaviour and milking requirements of each animal. In 2020 that culminated in commissioning the company's first internal sheep milking rotary system and its first external goat milking rotary system both in New Zealand. Andy also led projects converting old herringbone cow milking systems into dairy sheep parlours for some of the first commercial sheep milk suppliers in New Zealand. Andy is based at the company's headquarters in Hamilton, New Zealand, where he has overseen the development of new milking components and technology for sheep and goat systems. The company's small ruminant milking systems are now being used in China, North America and New Zealand, with interest growing among new customers in other countries. Andy has a deep understanding of the markets underpinning the growth of small ruminant dairy products around the world. He is called upon to speak at conferences, to primary sector interest groups and to the media for insights into small ruminant dairy milking.

He is originally from Kerry and grew up around his grandfather's dairy and suckler farm. "I hope that the experiences and perspectives I gained over the past three decades can be a positive in developing the business in Ireland for the company and for our customers and our dealers." Brian is married to Madeline, and they have three grown up children. Brian enjoys sports, particularly GAA and rugby. "But my passions in life are family, community and farming." Brian said dairy farming in Ireland is facing a number of challenges, but the industry remains resilient and that will continue to be so in the future. "Waikato Milking Systems will be at the forefront of this change in the coming years."

  • Head of Milk Cooling, Effluent and Environmental New Zealand
Craig Gibbons Head of Milk Cooling, Effluent and Environmental New Zealand +64 27 478 7952 | refrigeration@waikatomilking.com Craig has extensive experience working in the dairy-tech and dairy engineering industries in New Zealand. It has included maintenance and diagnostics, through to field service co-ordination, customer service management roles and sales roles for more than 20 years. Craig is originally from Taranaki and enjoys driving change, challenging the status quo to introduce new ideas for advancement. He earned senior leadership roles for companies specialising in food grade stainless steel vats and advanced refrigeration technologies. He spent four years with the Tru-Test Group where he headed tank and milk cooling solutions. He then worked as a consultant where he was engaged by Waikato Milking Systems on contract in 2019 before being elevated to Head of Milk Cooling for the company and then soon after taking on the Effluent and Irrigation portfolio as well. Craig has become the go-to person for milk cooling solutions. His advice is sought after by those looking to upgrade, replace or introduce new milk cooling systems to their dairy operations. He reckons people are learning to think about milk cooling requirements all-year round, rather than just prior to summer or when peak milk flow arrives. He knows products must be robust, reliable and most of all must comply with industry cooling regulations. While he is based in Hamilton, Craig spends much of his time travelling around New Zealand visiting farmers to see how our products and services can be of benefit, whether it be milk cooling solutions or our effluent management systems.

David Morris

Job Titles:
  • Country Manager
  • Member of the Global Sales Team
  • Country Manager China
  • David Morris Country Manager
  • Waikato Sales Manager
David Morris Country Manager China +64 21 931 016 | david.morris@waikatomilking.com David has worked as an advocate of New Zealand agri-tech, as an engineer and businessman, for more than 30 years. His involvement with Waikato Milking Systems stretches back to the mid-1990s when he was a major supplier for the company. David sold his first rotary parlour into China during the Mid 2000s, through his company Rotary Platforms NZ, which was based in Matamata. Not long after that, he sold the firm to Waikato Milking Systems where he continues to work today. David is the company's specialist sales manager in China where he has worked hard to establish our brand and promote the benefits of our rotary platforms, milking automation technology and dairy management systems. David understands how relationships are key to successful business connections in China. He's had success with large-scale, 24-hour milking operations, which are now using our Orbit Concrete Rotary platforms milking herds of 3000-plus cows 3 times per day. The market in China demands reliability and the company is well placed to meet that challenge. Customers are looking for good after sales service and support, as well as competitive prices. Farmers want customised systems, tailor-made for their unique conditions, rather than off-the-shelf solutions. David has also learnt that challenges around farm labour shortages in China means farmers are looking for milking parlours which have a high level of automation. He sees this as an opportunity for our NaviGate Dairy Management Systems and milking automation products to make their mark in the Asian market. David is also cultivating keen interest in our new Goat Rotary Platforms with several installations planned for early 2020. He credits the company's success in China to the strong technical and sales support at head office in Hamilton as well as the support from the small team based at the company's office and warehouse in Beijing.

Garry Ballantyne

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Global Sales Team
  • Garry Ballantyne Regional Sales and Services Manager New Zealand, Upper South Island
  • Regional Sales and Services Manager
  • Regional Sales Manager - Upper South Island New Zealand
  • Upper South Island Sales Manager
  • Waikato Sales Manager
Garry Ballantyne joined the Waikato Milking Systems team in May 2022 to take care of the Upper South Island region for the company. Garry's had a long association with the rural sector. His parents ran two sheep farms in the Catlins when he was growing up and they kept a few sheep on a lifestyle block after the family shifted to Timaru. That connection with the farming industry helped Garry when he began operating a successful electrical wholesaling business in the mid-2000s. It was a time when many farms were being converted to dairy and demand for electrical services was high. His company was working on about two-to-three new dairy sheds every week. "That was really my introduction to the dairy sector." Garry sold that business and began work for Promax Plastics, in its rural division, helping to deliver water storage solutions to farmers. He then joined Farmlands where he was the manager for its fuel division around the South Island, again interacting with those working in the rural sector. Garry was looking for a new challenge when the opportunity came up to join Waikato Milking Systems. He was familiar with the brand and its reputation as a reliable provider of products and services people could rely on. "I was keen for a new role that was still in the rural sector, because that's what I enjoy the most, and it had to be trade orientated as well. "So Waikato Milking Systems, with its dairy plant technology and its position in the dairy industry, really ticked those two boxes for me." Garry is based in Timaru where he is working from his home office and not far away to support customers and other Waikato Milking Systems staff, dealers and installers. "It's really an ideal location being close to North and South Canterbury where the bulk of the dairy herds are." Garry is familiar with the challenges many farmers face running a modern dairy and is keen to show how Waikato Milking Systems can offer solutions to fit their unique dairy operations.

That is why Grant has worked closely with our research and development team to make sure our product offering matches the expectations and conditions of each of our key global markets. That included making modifications to our milking and plant systems to suit 24-hour farming operations which are extensive in key markets such as US, Russia, China and the UK. A major part of the company's business growth success has been its ability to act swiftly, to ensure our customers receive a product that is reliable, robust and high performing, no matter where in the world they are. Grant believes it's this can-do attitude, throughout the company, which saw Waikato Milking Systems win the Auckland/Waikato Supreme Exporter of the Year Award in 2016. Grant draws upon his experience working for an international business for more 25 years, to successfully manage the company's global sales team, helping them achieve their required results. He lives in New Zealand but manages to move around the globe to spend quality time with his sales team and his dealer network at key times of the year. Developing the company's dealer network is a top priority and Grant makes the time to interview potential partners for the business in new and emerging markets. Ireland South

Job Titles:
  • Sales Manager Ireland South
Paul joined Waikato Milking Systems in early 2021 after nearly seven years working as an area sales manager for the Fullwood Packo Group in County Cork, where he also runs his family dairy farm business, comprising a 180-cow herd in the village of Carrignavar. Paul studied agricultural science at university and has qualifications in business management. His tertiary education also provided an opportunity to work on a major dairy farm in California for a year and since then he has built on his interest on all things dairy, from agricultural engineering to animal breeding. In more recent years he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in the Ireland ag sector, which has included a thorough understanding of how farmers are taking advantage of modern milking technology, from milk cooling systems, robotic milking, rotary parlours and everything in between. There continues to be massive growth in intensive dairy farming in Ireland and Paul believes this presents opportunities for the company, especially for milking automation technology. Herd sizes are increasing but the labour force remains at the same level which means farmers will be turning to automation to help ease the pressure. Paul's knowledge of the challenges dairy farmers face in the south of Ireland provides us with a unique pathway to connect with new customers. It's also a chance to build brand awareness of our products and technology in a part of the country that's new to the company. Paul is building a strong network of dealers who will become great ambassadors for the company. The aim is to move them over to become dedicated dealers and installation teams for Waikato Milking Systems, to provide top level after sales care and service for farmers. Paul knows this is important as good service and care means farmers will become customers for life.

He is now the Regional Manager - West, Farm Service Sales and Operations for the company. • Regional Manager Sales & Service Central Waikato, Counties and Northland

  • Regional Manager Sales & Services - Central Waikato, Counties, Northland, NZ
  • Waikato Sales Manager
Ray Stowe brings a unique mix of sales, after-market service, technical support and component technology experience to the Waikato Milking Systems brand. He began his career with water and hygiene specialist Ecolab, working there for 10 years before moving to Tru-Test MilkHub. He had been working for a dairy equipment dealership in Morrinsville in sales and support before joining the Waikato Milking Systems team in February 2022. Ray said the transition had been easy because of his previous roles and experience in the dairy industry. "I knew what Waikato Milking Systems was all about from my time with Ecolab and Tru-Test where I had a lot of contact with the company's diagnostic components and automation technology. "But overall I knew that farmers respected Waikato Milking Systems as a company that provided easy to use, robust and reliable systems." Ray said there is a good mix of new builds and refits in his region. Farmers face challenges around labour shortages and farm consolidation, both of which open up avenues to showcase the company's capabilities. "Farm owners are looking to have just one in the shed at milking time and so that's why we are seeing a spike in interest in our automation technology. "We're also seeing small farms becoming amalgamated into one larger operation and that's another opportunity for us to provide some solutions to improve efficiency and productivity for our customers." Ray said he's keen to contribute to his Waikato Milking Systems team with a "solutions focussed" approach to work. "I want to be that go-to-guy from a farmer's perspective, who can be trusted and provide the right solutions for the job. "But I also bring a lot of experience with dealerships and one of my goals is to bring our dealers together to become the top rotary milking system sales region in New Zealand."

Job Titles:

  • Regional Manager, Sales and Service - Australia
  • Rob Spencer Regional Manager Sales & Service, Australia
  • Waikato Sales Manager
Rob joined Waikato Milking Systems about as our first sales manager based in Australia. Previously, he had managed his own sales team at Fuji Xerox in Melbourne before deciding to take on a new challenge, working in the dairy industry. He spent three, week-long stints in New Zealand at the start of his term with the company, learning about milking in rotary and in-line systems, as well as working with the Qubik team on repairs and maintenance. It was a baptism by fire, he admits, but an enjoyable learning curve. He had completed a mechanics apprenticeship after leaving school and it was those skills which helped him make the transition to the new job. Rob knew working for Waikato Milking Systems would open up Australia to him. With the help of his dealer network, Rob services customers from Far North Queensland, to New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. There's a lot of travel involved and Rob understands conditions vary for each dairy region he services, from humid conditions in the north to more traditional conditions in Tasmania, similar to New Zealand and Ireland. Dairy farms in Australia are far and wide. Some are in remote places where labour is hard to secure. Rob knows farmers are looking for more automation options, such as our automatic cup removers, SmartD-TECT and SmartSPRAY, to eliminate the need for manual operation. Rob lives outside of Melbourne near the Dandenong Ranges and works hard to support his dealer network: Dairy Maintenance and Installation (Tasmania); Foster Dairy (Victoria); Southwest Dairy Services (Victoria); South East Dairy Services (Victoria); AK Dairy Services (Victoria); GV Advanced Milking Services (Victoria); Agmate Rural Services (Victoria); AM Dairy Solutions (NSW); Tekno Dairy (QLD).
