Jim Naugle

Jim Naugle was first elected Mayor of Fort Lauderdale on February 12, 1991. Due to his popularity with constituents, Naugle was re-elected in 1994, 1997, and 2000. He has served on the City Commission since 1985 and on City Boards since 1976. A long-time resident, Naugle has operated a real estate company in Downtown Fort Lauderdale for the last 25 years. Naugle's many current civil activities include serving as the council chair of Broward Employment and Training Administration (BETA), founding president of Tarpon River Civic Association, chairman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Senior Games, and as chairman of the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency. Naugle works with the Chamber of Commerce and as a 26-year member of the Association of Realtors. In the past, Naugle has served as the president of the Florida League of Cities, chairman of the Florida Municipal Investment Trust, chair of the Federal Action Strike Team (FAST), and as the chair of the National League of Cities, Environmental, Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Mayor Naugle received his B.A. in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He is married and has two daughters.

Richard A. Yoast

Dr. Yoast is the lead American Medical Association (AMA) staff member for alcohol and other drug abuse issues related to the public's health. At the AMA, he directs two National Program Offices funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: Reducing Underage Drinking Through Coalitions, 10 statewide coalitions, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia; and A Matter of Degree, 10 campus-community partnerships working to reduce high-risk drinking. In addition to managing these national alcohol prevention programs, Dr. Yoast coordinates the development of AMA white papers on alcohol and other drug abuse policy and provides staff and member scientific guidance in alcohol issues. He serves as principal investigator for a research project funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to develop a model for brief office interventions with adolescents showing early signs of alcohol related problems. Dr. Yoast also serves on the Executive Work Group of the national "Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free" - a partnership between the NIAAA, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the spouses of state governors. From 1992 to 1996, Dr. Yoast was Director of Tobacco Control for the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services, and directed that state's implementation of the National Cancer Institute ASSIST (American Stop Smoking Intervention Study) Project in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and some thirty- two state and local coalitions. From 1974 - 1991, he founded and directed the Wisconsin Clearinghouse and Prevention Resource Center on Alcohol and Other Drugs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Clearinghouse won many national awards for the excellence of its publications, curricula and is considered a national leader in drug abuse prevention. Dr. Yoast won several awards for his leadership in state policy development and professional excellence. During that time he also taught graduate and undergraduate courses on drug abuse, primary prevention and child abuse at the University of Wisconsin Madison and was a principal investigator on several computer based health education and drug abuse prevention research and development projects. He has published policy and program development papers in a wide range of journals and for governmental bodies. He has presented at many national and international conferences and has been a consultant for federal agencies and state governments.
