Andrew Hair

Andrew joined Alphinity in February 2024 to the newly created role of Chief Commercial and Operating Officer. Andrew is responsible for the non-investment operations of the business and as such, works closely with our administration and distribution partner Fidante. Andrew has over 25 years' experience in roles spanning asset management leadership, asset consulting and distribution. Most recently, Andrew was CEO of Acadian Asset Management Australia and Head of Acadian's Asia Pacific business. In this role he was responsible for setting and implementing business strategy and improving operational efficiencies across the region. He is a qualified Actuary and formerly a Senior Asset Consultant at Mercer Investments. Prior to joining Acadian, Andrew held a senior distribution role at MLC Implemented Consulting. Andrew's education includes a BSc (First Class Hons) Mathematics from the University of Leicester and University of Texas. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Andrew Martin

Andrew is a Principal of Alphinity Investment Management. His focus is on the Financials, Transport, Infrastructure and IT sectors, as well as portfolio management oversight. Andrew was previously a Vice President and Research Analyst for AllianceBernstein's Australian Equities Fund covering the financial, transport, healthcare, tourism and leisure sectors from 2003 to 2010, as well as oversight for the management of the Australian Concentrated Fund from 2008. Prior to joining Alliance, he spent several years with JB Were Stockbroking as Senior Analyst covering the gaming and insurance sectors respectively. Previously, Andrew worked for Merrill Lynch in Corporate Finance and as an Actuarial Analyst with AMP Life. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. He has also been a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia since 1998.

Andrew Taylor

Job Titles:

Andrew manages the dealing function for the Alphinity portfolios. In this role he develops trading strategies to achieve best execution for client portfolios, while also managing cashflows and pre-trade compliance limits. Andrew has previously worked at Alliance Bernstein, where he served 11 years in roles covering portfolio implementation and most recently as a Senior Trader responsible for Australian and Asian equities. He also held the position of Senior Trader at Platinum, specialising in Asian equities, and derivatives and currency trading. Both roles involved working collaboratively with domestic and global investment teams, both in terms of trading execution and delivery of timely stock and market colour. Andrew holds an honours degree in Chemical engineering from the University of Queensland.

Andrey Mironenko

Andrey is a Research Analyst at Alphinity Investment Management focusing on Information Technology, Chemicals and Sustainable Share Fund. Prior to joining Alphinity, Andrey spent seven years at McKinsey & Company. Affiliated with McKinsey Strategy & Corporate Finance practice, Andrey had been a member of four offices (Moscow, Houston, San Francisco and Sydney), worked on every inhabited continent, led international teams and advised both public, private and state-owned enterprises in technology, energy, materials, private equity, chemicals, financial services, real estate, telecommunications and agriculture/food industries at the intersection of strategy and disruptive technology - as well as broader strategy, transactions, business transformation and commercial topics. Andrey has worked extensively at McKinsey Global Institute where he contributed to such research as Climate Risk & Response, How Technology Is Reshaping Resources, Future of Work, Age of Analytics, China and the World, and Future of Japan. Prior to McKinsey Andrey worked at KPMG and completed an internship at the Parliament of Canada. Andrey holds a degree in International Relations from top-rated Lomonosov Moscow State University and completed an international study program at Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Bruce Smith

Bruce is a Principal of Alphinity Investment Management. His focus is on the Consumer, Telecommunications and Property sectors, as well as portfolio management oversight. Bruce was previously a Vice President and Research Analyst for AllianceBernstein's Australian Equities Fund covering the consumer, media and telecommunications sectors, from 2004 to 2010. Prior to this, Bruce held equity analyst and portfolio management positions at both Zurich Scudder Investments and Suncorp Investment Management, focusing predominantly on the media and telecommunications sectors. Bruce was also an Investment Manager for NZI Insurance Australia. He started his career in the markets at JB Were as a Money Market Dealer. Bruce received a Bachelor of Business from the NSW Institute of Technology (now UTS), and holds a Graduate Diploma from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Chris Willcocks

Chris joined Alphinity as a Portfolio Manager in February 2022 and is responsible for the Industrials and Energy sector. He has over 16 years' experience of international equity markets working at Citi, having been based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney. During the most recent six years, Chris has been Director and Head of International Equity Sales, APAC (based in Sydney). He graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor Science (Biotechnology)

Elfreda Jonker

Elfreda works closely with the Alphinity Investment teams and the Fidante Business Development team to provide investment insights and service Alphinity's growing client base. Elfreda comes to Alphinity from Talaria Asset Management where she since 2019 was responsible for business development in NSW. Prior to Talaria, Elfreda worked for Deutsche Bank Equities, South Africa from 2005-2018, including 7 years as Head of Equity Sales and member of the executive committee and board. In this role she was responsible for selling the bank's global research and other investment solutions to institutional clients as well as managing the sales team. Elfreda also spent 2 years as an Analyst and Project Manager Interest rate, FX and Credit Derivates products for Goldman Sachs in New York. She started her career at Deloitte South Africa where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Elfreda is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a B-Com Accounting (Honours) degree from the University of South Africa

Jacob Barnes

Jacob joined Alphinity in 2020 to assist the domestic investment team with stock and sector analysis. His initial focus is on Consumer stocks. Jacob was previously a Senior Investment Analyst for First State Super for several years in its Direct Equities team, where he contributed to the overall research and portfolio management efforts of its internally-managed concentrated industrial equity portfolio. His direct responsibilities there were for Gaming, Insurance, Diversified Financials and Healthcare companies. Prior to First State, Jacob was an Analyst and Portfolio Manager at private wealth manager Bailey Roberts Group where he constructed portfolios of Australian equities for high net worth individuals. Jacob has a Bachelor Degree in Commerce (Finance and Economics) and a Master Degree in Professional Accounting from the University of Wollongong, and is a CFA charter holder.

Jeff Thomson - Founder

Jeff's focus is on Financials, Property and Consumer Staples sectors, as well as portfolio construction oversight. Jeff joined Alphinity in 2015. Prior to joining Alphinity, Jeff worked as a global fund manager at K2 Asset Management in Melbourne from 2011-2015. Previously he worked at Thames River Capital in London (2003-2010) as a fund manager in the European team, managing absolute and long only equity portfolios, and Coronation Fund Managers in Dublin and London (2000-2003), again on the European equity team as an analyst/fund manager. Jeff began his career in financial services as a general industrial analyst at Deutsche Bank Securities (1996-2000) focusing on the chemical, healthcare and media sectors. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young in Johannesburg, South Africa and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Jessica Cairns

Jessica joined Alphinity in August 2020 in the newly created role of ESG & Sustainability Manager to support the firm's assessment and integration of ESG-related matters. Jessica also assists the Sustainable Share Fund Compliance Committee in its efforts to define an investment universe which consider companies' contribution towards achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Jessica is also involved in company and market engagements. Prior to joining Alphinity, Jessica was Senior Sustainability Advisor at Transurban where she was responsible for delivering strategic projects, including Transurban's response to the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) recommendations and supporting the delivery of sustainability initiatives to meet the company's broader sustainability strategy. Her previous roles included Case Manager at the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) and Environmental and Sustainability Consultant at SLR Consulting. Jessica has a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management (Honours) from the University of Newcastle and a Diploma in Project Management from the University of New England.

Jonas Palmqvist - Founder

Jonas's focus is on Healthcare,Utilities and Materials sectors as well as portfolio construction oversight Jonas joined Alphinity in 2015. Prior to joining Alphinity, Jonas was a Senior Portfolio Manager / Analyst at AMP Capital in Sydney, Australia, He was responsible for managing the Core Equity portfolios in the Australian Fundamental Equities team from 2011-2015, as well as covering the Australian bank sector as an equity analyst. Prior tothat, Jonas worked from 2003-2010 at Swedbank Robur Asset Management in Stockholm, Sweden, managing international as well as domestic equity portfolios, and covering US and European stocks across the consumer and industrials sectors. Previously, Jonas worked at Merrill Lynch in London, UK as an equity analyst covering European media stocks. He started his career with Swedbank Markets in Sweden in 1996 as an equity analyst, covering sectors ranging from banks, industrials, property and media. He holds a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law.

Mary Manning

Mary's focus is on the Consumer Discretionary and Communication Services sectors. Mary joined Alphinity in July 2021, bringing 23 years of international experience to the team. Mary was previously a portfolio manager of the Ellerston Asia Growth Fund, Ellerston India Fund and Ellerston Asian Investments LIC. Mary had been with Ellerston since 2012, and prior to that worked in different investing roles 2001-2010 at Oaktree Capital as well as Soros Funds Management, based in New York and Singapore. She started her career in 1996 as an investment banking analyst at Citi, based in New York, London and Moscow. Mary completed a PhD in Economics 2005-2008 and was an associate lecturer at University of Sydney.

Moana Nottage

Job Titles:
  • ESG & Sustainability Analyst
Moana is an ESG and sustainability analyst at Alphinity Investment Management who contributes to active integration of Environmental, Social and Governance into the investment process. She conducts research and data analysis on typical ESG topics, and also considers the implications and opportunities of various sustainability issues related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Moana takes part in thematic research (e.g. modern slavery), product development, company engagement and monitors ongoing ESG risks with a focus on global stock and sector analysis. Moana joined Alphinity in May 2020 as an intern to support the global team and in June 2021 moved into a full-time role working across domestic and global funds. She has an active role supporting the Sustainable Share Fund Compliance Committee and assists in the governance and research associated with the global and domestic sustainable strategies. Moana has a Bachelor of Science and Commerce from the University of Sydney, with majors in Biology, Environmental Studies and Finance.

Nick Ying

Nick joined the Alphinity team in 2022 to provide quantitative research support and assist with the trading function across all of Alphinity's global and domestic equity and sustainability funds. Nick has more than six years' experience working as a portfolio management analyst and trader at a range of Sydney-based fund management firms, most recently at Redpoint Investment Management and NAB/MLC Asset Management He has a Master of Quantitative Finance from the University of Technology Sydney and a Bachelor of Commerce, with Honours in Finance from the University of Sydney.

Richard Hitchens

Job Titles:

Richard joined Alphinity in July 2017 as Senior Quantitative Analyst, serving both the Australian and Global Equities teams. Richard is well known to both equities teams having been a service provider to Alphinity for a number of years. Richard has spent the past six years working at Credit Suisse Australia, serving as Director of Quantitative Research from 2014. He qualified as an actuary in 1998 and worked for JB Were, Goldman Sachs and RBS Australia in a range of roles before joining Credit Suisse. Richard is currently in final stages of a Masters Degree in Information and Data Science at UC Berkeley in San Francisco. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, and qualified as an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia in 1998.

Stephane Andre

Stephane is a Principal of Alphinity Investment Management. His focus is on the Energy, Materials and Utilities sectors, as well as portfolio management oversight. Stephane was previously a Vice President and Research Analyst for AllianceBernstein's Australian Equities Fund covering the same sectors from 2005 to 2010. Stephane's prior background was primarily in management consulting, having worked with McKinsey & Company from 1997 to 2002 in South Africa and Australia, leaving the firm as an Associate Principal. Prior to this, Stephane held relationship management roles within JP Morgan (Belgium) and Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank (South Africa). Stephane was also employed by SABMiller as Commercial Director Asia Pacific, ultimately responsible for launching and building a premium non-alcoholic beverage portfolio across the region. Stephane holds a Commercial Engineering degree (with high honors) from the top-rated Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Stephane is fluent in French as well as German.

Stuart Welch

Stuart joined Alphinity in July 2017, focusing on health care, transport and infrastructure. Prior to joining Alphinity, Stuart spent seven years as an Investment Analyst at Fidelity International Australia covering a range of sectors, including healthcare, banks, diversified financials, infrastructure and transport. Stuart spent several years in New York as Vice President with Abatis Capital and Associate Director at Allco Finance Group, and worked at Macquarie Bank and KPMG in Sydney. Stuart has a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney and holds a Masters of Management Studies from Cambridge University, as well as being a CFA charterholder.

Trent Masters

Trent joined Alphinity in April 2021, having previously managed the Global Evolution Capital fund, a global absolute return fund built around key growth themes and industrial evolutionary trends. Prior to that, Trent spent over a decade at CFSGAM, primarily as a Senior Analyst covering a number of sectors, and also as a Portfolio Manager of the Global Long Short, hedge fund of funds. Trent has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance.
