As Founder and CEO of AHEC and AEC, Matt has more than 30 years of experience in the building and engineering fields. Matt earned a master's degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from University of Maryland. He earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland, as well as bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Physics (Honors Program) from University of Delaware. Matt is a 2014 Smith MBA Merit Scholar at University of Maryland. In addition, he is an Association of Energy Engineers and Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified Energy Auditor; Certified Energy Manager; Business Energy Professional; and Building Analyst, Building Envelope, Multi-family Building and Measurement and Verification Professional. He also completed International Energy Conservation Code training in 2012. Matt's past experience includes nine years as founder and CEO of Quality Home Builders and Associates. In this capacity, Matt managed hundreds of projects from the concept stages throughout permitting, including those requiring planning reviews at the county level. Matt has in-depth knowledge of building codes at every stage of construction - from foundation, drywall, insulation, and roofing to windows and doors. As energy codes became more stringent, Matt saw an opportunity in energy savings programs. Thus AHEC and AEC were born. Our Founder and CEO, Matthew Stewart, launched American Home Energy Corporation (AHEC) in 2010 and American Energy Corporation (AEC) in 2011. Armed with a mechanical engineering degree from University of Maryland, Matt was inspired to promote energy savings through his prior experience with the Income Eligible Energy Efficiency Program, which connects low-income tenants and homeowners to comprehensive energy audits. Building on this foundation, Matt had a vision to offer energy-saving opportunities through the entire Mid-Atlantic community. AHEC and AEC have both flourished as energy efficiency consulting and contracting firms thanks to word-of-mouth advertising and customer loyalty.
