Meet Adam Walter! Adam joined Anu Family Services in 2023. Adam has a Bachelor's from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where he majored in Social Work and minored in Psychology. Before joining our team, Adam gained valuable experience through a County Criminal Justice Services internship, where he honed his skills and passion for helping others.
Adam's path into the helping profession was influenced by his desire to impact people's lives positively. He was inspired by his sister, who worked as a Social Worker, and this inspiration led him to pursue a career dedicated to offering support and assistance to those in need.
One of the aspects Adam values most about his role at Anu Family Services is the meaningful relationships he has built. He finds fulfillment in the connections he shares with both colleagues and clients. Andrea joined Anu Family Services as a Parent Coach in 2022, working out of Calumet County. Andrea became a social worker to help children become happy, healthy and well-adjusted adults. Andrea has worked in child welfare supporting children and families for 30 years. She understands that the most effective way to help children is to help and support the adults who care for them. Often, traumatic experiences within a family, even generations back, can lead to an array of challenges for parents and children. Andrea believes that healing from trauma is possible, and that parents and caregivers are the best people to lead this healing effort. She knows, that as people heal emotionally, behaviors improve. Proven parenting strategies that focus on building a deep and trusting connection with children promotes emotional healing, a sense of well-being and behavioral improvement.

Andrew Larson, BS, LPC-IT has been an Anu employee since 2018. He has his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and Masters Degree in clinical mental health counseling from Lakeland University.
Andrew is available to provide Individualized Trauma Services in Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Pierce, St. Croix, Clark, and Taylor Counties.

When Andrew was in high school, he discovered a desire to help others. He had been working with adults his entire career but has recently rekindled his passion for working with children and families. His favorite things about the ITS program are individuality, the ability to meet in a variety of settings including the community, and helping clients build skills to assist them with navigation through life's inevitable challenges.
When Andrew is not working, he loves to be outdoors, especially in the summer!
Autumn Hall joined Anu Family Services in 2022 as a Treatment Foster Care Permanence Specialist. Autumn has her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she currently resides in Eleva, WI.

Introducing Becky Germain! With an impressive tenure of over 15 years, Becky Germain, MSW, APSW, has been an invaluable and esteemed member of the Anu team since 2006. Her educational background includes a Master of Social Work degree earned from the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Becky embarked on her Anu journey in 2006, initially joining as a dedicated Treatment Foster Care Permanence Specialist. Recognizing her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment, Becky's remarkable professional growth led to her promotion to the esteemed position of Director of Treatment Foster Care in 2022.
Throughout her career at Anu, Becky has consistently demonstrated her deep passion for positively impacting the lives of children and families in need. Brittany Stumph, BS, has been an Anu employee since 2018. She majored in Elementary Education and minored in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin - Superior. Brittany is available to provide Parent Coaching services for All One Employee Assistance Program, as well as Barron, Burnett, Chippewa, Pierce, Polk, and Washburn Counties. Prior to coming to Anu to work as a Parent Coach, Brittany worked as an educator in the school system. When asked what led her to Anu, she says, "While working in the schools, I found absolute joy working with families to help support their child's academic needs. Through positive communication and collaboration with parents, I was helping parents to strengthen their relationship with their child. Learning about the Parent Coaching program during my maternity leave sparked my interest in becoming a Parent Coach. I have always had a passion for helping others. As a Parent Coach, I am able to put my Education background and my passion for helping families together."
Brittany's favorite part of her job is watching the positive progressions from the beginning of Parent Coaching to the family's graduation from working with a Parent Coach. She enjoys seeing a parent/guardian start to build their confidence in putting the skills and strategies they learned in Parent Coaching to use and watching the deep and meaningful relationships between parent and child blossom. She believes this is a special thing to be a part of and makes her work at Anu rewarding.
When Brittany is not at work, her favorite thing to do is spend quality time with her two little boys and husband being outdoors. She loves camping, cookouts, campfires, and walks. When she gets a moment to herself, she likes to paint and draw.

Maya Angelou Introducing Cara Scanlan (BS, MS), a dedicated Parent Coach at Anu Family Services! Cara joined the organization in October 2022 and is based in the South/Madison region. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role, aiming to support and empower parents on their journey. Cara holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Services. She furthered her education by earning a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Cara's educational background equips her with a solid foundation in understanding human behavior and the dynamics within families. Cara's path to this field was shaped by her diverse experiences. She has worked in various capacities, providing support to children with mental health and behavioral challenges. Additionally, she has provided in-home family therapy. As a stay-at-home parent with her own children for several years, Cara brings a unique perspective to her work at Anu. Meet Shari Larson, MS, Ed, LPC. Shari has been a valued member of the Anu team since 2015. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development/Family Science and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling with Certifications in both Educational Counseling and Professional Counseling from the University of Wisconsin - Stout. Shari is available to provide Parent Coaching services in Chippewa, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, and St. Croix Counties.
Prior to joining Anu, Shari worked as a School Counselor in the public-school system for over 20 years. At Anu, Shari loves working collaboratively with teams to support and guide children and families towards positive, loving relationships that strengthen their resilience and hope for a better future. She is passionate about ensuring that children experience a safe, happy, and healthy life and firmly believes that "families are essential!"
Outside of work, Shari enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, boating, reading, playing cards and games, going for bike rides, watching most sports, and going on nature walks.

Christine Willeson-Holland Parent Coach (she/her/hers) "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt in the heart." Christine is a dedicated Parent Coach who joined Anu Family Services in June of 2023, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep passion for supporting families. Christine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, earned at the University of Hawaii, where she resided and worked for 12 years in an enriching culturally based program. During her tenure there, she played a pivotal role in implementing developmental screens, assisting with parenting strategies, building parental confidence, and providing valuable resources. The joyous smiles resulting from a family's hard work and successes were a testament to her commitment. With 21 years in the social service field, Christine's journey has been marked by various roles that have enriched her skill set and strengthened her abilities. She has worked extensively with both victim-survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence, facilitating psychoeducation groups with an unwavering dedication to creating safety and fostering positive change. Additionally, Christine has worked alongside families with young children diagnosed with medical conditions, offering guidance, developmental activities, and parenting support. Christine's professional portfolio also includes serving as a classroom counselor for teenagers diagnosed with mental health challenges and challenging behaviors. She has excelled in building meaningful relationships with these teens, helping them develop effective strategies for managing their reactions and ultimately creating more positive experiences that lead to successful outcomes. Throughout her career, Christine has found fulfillment in supporting families as they navigate challenging situations, gain strength in their abilities, and achieve success through focused work, love, and dedication. Kathryn Primas is an associate at Abt Associates, providing HUD technical assistance for homeless services programs. She has seven years of experience operating, managing, and monitoring homeless projects. Additionally, she has worked as a child protection worker, an advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, and as a case manager for homeless youth. Kathryn studied History at the University of Miami (FL), got her Master's in Social Work from Boston University, and earned her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California.
Dr. Kristen Prock earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, an MSW from Indiana University-South Bend, and a PhD in Social Work from Michigan State University. Prior to joining the UW-Whitewater faculty in 2019, she worked for nearly a decade with system-involved children and adolescents who have significant behavioral and mental health needs in residential treatment settings. Dr. Prock is a licensed clinical social worker with expertise in adolescent trauma and mental health, youth homelessness, and program evaluation. Dr. Prock's research focuses on the experiences of LGBTQ homeless youth, LGBTQ-related policy in Higher Education, and teaching evidence-based practice in social work education. Dr. Prock teaches practice courses for both the BSW and MSW programs.

Meet Dr. Mechele Shipman, MSSW, EdD, LCSW. Mechele is a recognized expert in the child welfare field and serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Anu Family Services, Inc. With over 20 years of experience in academia, Mechele is an author, international speaker, and consultant. She is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Mechele's educational background includes a Doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master's Degree in Science and Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Living from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She also completed the Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate (PACC) at the University of Minnesota Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare.
Mechele began her career in child welfare in 1992 and has spent her career advocating for children and families. She has extensive clinical experience in in-home family therapy, as well as individual and group counseling with adolescents.
Mechele's dedication to the field of child welfare is reflected in her work as an Adjunct Faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and her tenure as a faculty member for the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Social Work Graduate Program for 10 years. She has taught graduate and undergraduate level courses in social work supervision, child development, individual and family counseling, cultural diversity, work and family issues, and child and adolescent counseling.
Mechele is the co-author of several articles in national publications, including the Permanency Guidebook: A guide to changes in child welfare. She has also written articles related to permanence-driven supervision and public speaking. Mechele currently serves as the Past-President for the Family Focused Treatment Association (FFTA) and as the Board Chair for the Wisconsin Association of Family Caring Agencies (WAFCA).
Mechele has presented nationally and provided training and consultation for agencies in the areas of strength-based supervision practices. As a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, Mechele offers training and consultation in Leadership Fortitude, Ethics and Boundaries in the Helping Profession, Self-Care and Work-Life Harmony, Courageous Leadership, Organizational Change, and many other topics. Her expertise and dedication have been recognized with the Outstanding Faculty Award by the Multicultural Student Services Organization at UW-Stout.

Meet Elias Flowers, M.Ed., a passionate and dedicated Resiliency Specialist! Elias received a Bachelor's Degree from Daemen College in Amherst, New York, in Early Childhood/Special Education, and later earned a Master's Degree from Buffalo State College in Early Childhood/Special Education. Elias joined the agency in 2019 as a Parent Coach and Youth Coac. In 2023, Elias trasitioned to the Individualized Trauma Services Program to serve Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Dodge Counties.
Elias' interest in this field was sparked by working with children who had experienced trauma and the awareness of the lack of support and education available for parents who want to help their children. Elias is passionate about sharing their knowledge and training in child development and trauma-informed care to help families build strong, compassionate relationships with one another.
For Elias, the best thing about being a Parent Coach at Anu is being a part of another person's journey and helping them restore hope in themselves and their children.
When Elias is not working, Elias enjoys practicing and teaching yoga, meditating, journaling, cooking, and reading. Elias also loves running, climbing, dancing, and hiking, and feels most at peace when surrounded by mountains. Emily Grissman Parent Coach (she/her/hers) Meet Emily Grissman, a compassionate and dedicated Parent Coach at Anu Family Services. Emily joined the organization in 2023, bringing a diverse range of experiences and a deep commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of families. Emily holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Lawrence University. Additionally, she holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology from Fox Valley Technical College. Her educational background in psychology and neuroscience provides her with a unique perspective when working with families. Throughout her career, Emily has gained valuable experience in various roles. She has worked directly in a Treatment Foster Care setting, providing support and care to children and families. Emily has also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with CASA of the Fox Cities, advocating for the best interests of children in the legal system. In addition, she has experience in program development and support group facilitation, notably with a Single Parent Support Group through Child Care Resource and Referral/Family Resource Center. While not directly related, Emily has also worked as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist in a Level II Trauma Center Hospital, where she contributed to continuous improvement projects focused on patient experience and staff preparedness, particularly in the pediatric population. Emily's passion for the helping profession stems from her deeply rooted belief in using her gifts to alleviate suffering and elevate the lives of others. She has always been sensitive to the feelings of those around her and believes in the transformative power of empathy and compassion. In her role at Anu Family Services, Emily finds great fulfillment in the core values of the organization. Meet Emily Nelson! Emily joined the team in 2023, bringing with her a passion for supporting individuals on their healing journey. Emily holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from UW-River Falls and a Master's in Social Work from UW-Madison.
Emily has experience as an information and referral specialist at 211, where she connected people to essential resources in the community. Through this role, Emily gained a deep understanding of individual stories and the unique experiences that shape each person's journey. During her graduate studies, Emily interned at a day treatment program for children and adolescents, witnessing how trauma impacts individuals' lives. Emily found joy in helping people develop the skills to navigate life's challenges.
Emily's passion for the helping profession stems from her belief in the importance of mental health and her desire to empower individuals to utilize their strengths for healing. Emily Jo Sutherland, BS, has a bachelor's degree in School and Community Health Education from Winona State University. She joined the agency in 2020. Emily is available to provide Flexible Support Services and Parent/Youth Coaching services in Burnett, Buffalo, Chippewa, Pepin, Washburn, and Taylor Counties.
Emily has a love of wellness and a desire to help others reach their wellness potentials in all aspects of health-physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and in their relationships. Her favorite thing about her job is getting to know a variety of people and building relationships with them while helping them build skills to better their lives.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time with her family (4 kids that are very active in sports). She plays volleyball on a team with her husband, working and volunteering at her church, playing games, and make healthy meals at home!
Gino Mangione is the CFO at SMC Ltd, and previous to that has held various Senior Finance Leadership roles. He joined the Anu Family Services Board of Directors in 2015. He has always focused on helping children and was excited to join Anu who strives to improve the lives of children. Gino enjoys tennis, hockey, soccer and spending time with his family especially his two grandchildren.

Meet Heather Dickrell! Heather is a dedicated and passionate Flexible Support Specialist at Anu Family Services, where she began her journey in 2023. She also has prior experience working for the Boys & Girls Club, showcasing her dedication to helping children and families in various capacities.

With over two decades of experience in the child welfare system, Heidi has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families.
Heidi began her journey with Anu Family Services in 1997 and has since held various positions, including Director of Program, Treatment Foster Care Permanence Specialist, Family Connections Specialist, and Southern Regional Treatment Foster Care Director. Her expertise in these roles has allowed her to develop a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of families and children in the child welfare system.
Before joining Anu Family Services, Heidi worked in adult corrections for male offenders and a residential treatment program for adolescents. Her experience in these fields has given her a broad perspective and a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by individuals and families who are struggling to overcome difficult circumstances.
Throughout her career, Heidi has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of others. As Chief Operating Officer, she continues to leverage her extensive knowledge and expertise to drive positive outcomes for families and children.

Meet Hilary McElroy, MS, LPC, a dedicated professional with over 20 years of experience working with children and families in Wisconsin. In 2015, Hilary took on the role of Director of the Parent Coaching program, where she has been instrumental in helping families overcome challenging situations and develop stronger relationships. Jenny Wagner, MS, comes to Anu with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a Master's Degree from Capella University. She has a Paralegal degree from Madison College, served on the Governor's Council on Domestic Abuse, and has a strong background working with LGBTQ families. Jenny recently completed a 40 hour course on interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) led by Dr. Dan Siegel and is a certified grief support specialist. She joined Anu Family Services in 2020. Jenny is available to provide Parent Coaching and Individualized Trauma Services in Columbia, Dane, Dodge, and Sauk Counties.
Jenny's experience as an adoption social worker, classroom teacher, and victim advocate brought her to Anu. She says Parent Coaching gives her the opportunity to understand how strong parent/child relationships support children through all aspects of their lives. She believes family relationships are paramount and is honored to help parents and guardians strengthen their bond with their children. "Everyone's parenting style is unique - it's always an adventure helping parents find what works best for themselves and their children," Jenny says.

Kathy is from a big family and has always enjoyed children. "After retiring from the education field, I wanted to continue helping children and families. Katie Johnson, MSW, LCSW, joined Anu Family Services in April 2022 as the ITS Program Manager. Katie has worked in the Human Services field since graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Human Services from UW Oshkosh. Katie worked to support adults with developmental disabilities and chronic mental health issues as a job coach, in an institution, and then while managing an Adult Day Center. Katie started working with families and children with disabilities as a CLTS case manager before going back to school to pursue a Master's degree in Social Work with a Mental Health concentration from UW Madison. She then began providing in-home therapy to children, adults, family and couples, becoming licensed to provide psychotherapy in 2018.
Katie is very interested in helping people to heal from trauma. "It makes so much sense…people are doing the best they can; if they aren't doing better it's because something is holding them back". In order to better help people move past their traumas, Katie became trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and later in Attachment-Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). "I have seen amazing things happen when people are able to address the ways that trauma has affected them". This interest in trauma led Katie to the Individualized Trauma Services program at Anu. "I know not everyone is ready to confront the effects of their trauma directly, so ITS provides another option." Katie enjoys managing a program as much as she enjoys providing psychotherapy, because she is able to indirectly help more people. She provides psychotherapy to a small number of people in Clark, Taylor and Chippewa counties.

Mike Norby joined the Anu Family Services team as an Office Administrator for Treatment Foster Care in February 2022. He has a Bachelor's Degree from Rasmussen University in Healthcare Management and aspirations to eventually obtain his Master's Degree in Business Administration.
When asked what led him to the field, he said, "I have had a desire to help others for as far back as I can remember. Having worked in the Human Services field for the last 10 years, primarily with adults with disabilities, I have found that helping others has been the most rewarding job there is." His favorite part about the job is knowing that we are making a difference in others' lives.
When not at work, he is very passionate about giving back to the community. Currently, he is a board member for a local non-profit as well as the Chairperson for the fair committee in his hometown. Kristina M. Bourget is a valued Director on the Anu Board, bringing her extensive legal experience to the table. With a proven track record of providing innovative legal and business solutions to executive leadership and boards of directors in both public and private companies, Kristina is a valuable asset to the Anu team.
In addition to her role on the Anu Board, Kristina has served on the Board of Directors for Citizens Community Bancorp, Inc. and Citizens Community Federal Bank since 2018. She currently chairs the Risk Oversight Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee and Compensation Committees.
Kristina's legal career includes serving as Vice President and General Counsel of Wisconsin Independent Network (WIN) from 2015 to 2020 and as a circuit court judge in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin from 2013 to 2015.
