ArresterWorks is an International Consulting Firm focused on assisting others in improving power system reliability through design, production and application of arresters to mitigate the effect of lightning and other transients... ArresterWorks is conducting a study on the correlation between arrester leakage current and its surface temperature. This is part of the work that will be presented at the 2017 INMR World Congress. We are using a wireless sensor (patent pending) attached to the outside of the 152kV MCOV polymer housed arrester for the data collection. One of the first things you learn about the surface temperature of an arrester is that it is always in flux. The many variables that affect its temperature will make this parameter very hard to model. In any case, here is a preview of the temperature of an arrester over a 5-day period.
