The legendary Greek god of the forests and meadows had fallen in love with a nymph named Syrinx. When Pan (half goat and half man) pursued her she became frightened and prayed to her sisters for help. They changed her into some reeds. When Pan sighed in disappointment, he realized that the reeds gave forth a musical sound. If he cut the reeds in unequal lengths and bound them together, it became a lovely musical instrument... Three clay pieces have been molded in the form of three Asian characters meaning Love, Tranquility, and Happiness. They are sealed, painted, and antiqued with metallic gold. They are then placed on a scroll of red Asian printed paper and gold momi paper. A bamboo stick anchors the scroll and three Asian coins are placed between the clay pieces with a tassel anchoring the third.
