ASCO - Key Persons

BE A BLESSING

From our employees to our customers, being a blessing means treating people with respect. We work to do right by our people. As part of the "be a blessing" philosophy that guides ASCO, each of the twenty-seven branches puts together an annual fundraiser to benefit a local nonprofit or company-chosen organization. The ASCO Foundation matches every penny they raise. In 1959, Bill Wright moved his family back to Texas after spending a successful 15-year career with Humble Oil and Refining Company and a year in Connecticut with parent company Standard Oil. The family briefly lived in Tyler, Texas, before a move to Lubbock, Mr. Wright and his wife's hometown. Mr. Wright had returned to the town where he had grown up playing football on sandlots and in dirt streets under the flickering light of gas streetlights. He and his band of friends would grow up to play football for Lubbock High School and bring home the first-ever Lubbock State Football Championship. They were the 1939 Cinderella Team. Their coach died three games into the season. They dedicated the rest of the season to Coach Nick. They weren't too big or fast, but they had more heart than anyone they played they didn't lose another game! Mr. Wright went on to play for The University of Oklahoma. Mr. Wright joined as an officer in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, and was deployed to the Philippines and China. In early 1960, Mr. Wright joined his brother-in-law, Kenneth Pharr, at Associated Supply Company, INC. an irrigation pump, engine, and Army surplus store. Shortly after, the pair was presented with an opportunity to be a dealer for Towmotor Lift Trucks. By 1965, Caterpillar Tractor Company acquired Towmotor Lifts Trucks.
