In June of 1985, Davis Hauling Company decided to enter the ready mix business. It seemed like a logical area for Charles Davis to expand his business. He had over 30 years experience in the hauling business and had become very familiar with the ready mix industry as a supplier of aggregate materials to local operations. His son and co-founder of Augusta Ready Mix, Terry Davis, had studied all aspects of concrete at Georgia Tech where he earned his degree in civil engineering. They hired E.R. Hughes, whose background was in supervising concrete operations for major construction projects in the southeast, to manage Augusta Ready Mix.
