Alex received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis Law School in 1978 and Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz. While in law school he received American Jurisprudence awards in Torts and Marital Property and was selected to the Traynor Cup Competition Moot Court Team.
Since 1980 he has specialized in civil litigation with emphases in Personal Injury, Professional Liability, Insurance, and General Civil Law. He is or has been a member of the arbitration panels in El Dorado, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties and has acted as both a private and court-appointed arbitrator.
He is also a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, California Consumer Attorneys, and Capitol City Trial Lawyers Association. Alex was a VISTA volunteer with the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz in 1974-5 and Head Coach of Channel Island Aquatics in Oxnard, California in 1983.
His is interested in reading, movies, music, and many sports, including basketball, track and field, bicycling, swimming and triathlon.
Ashlie joined the Law Offices of Edward A. Smith in September 2022 as the Receptionist.
She brings with her over three years of law firm experience and more than ten years in customer service.
Ashlie genuinely enjoys being the first point of contact for our clients. She loves working with people and is driven to help those she meets. She also likes the fact that she gets to learn so many new things from all the different areas of the job.
When not managing the front office, she enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, crafting, and going on adventures with her two daughters, Willow, 7, and Sylvie, 3 and her family. She loves to spend time with her family and friends having BBQs and relaxing as well.
Ashlie is happily married to Bryce who is a local farmer in Rancho Cordova. They have been together for 10 years!
David started at the law firm in October 2019 as an independent contractor working on a few projects for Ed Smith. It didn't take long for him to transition into an employee on our team. His duties include assisting in medical records and marketing.
David was born in Michigan and has lived in Arizona, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina as well as Vancouver, Canada. He has spent the better part of 30 years in Sacramento. He previously worked for Tower Records, CBS Radio, Sprint, and Netflix. He also was a manufacturer's representative in the licensed music business for many years. Most recently, he helped run a local online vinyl record business that sold and shipped records worldwide.
David is the father of an amazing son, Zack, who is a photographer and journalist in Portland, Oregon. David enjoys skateboarding and going to the gym, but most of his free time is spent with the love of his life, Felicia. Together they enjoy going to the movies, taking trips to the coast, cooking and visiting friends.
David is a "cat guy" and avid animal lover in general. He really enjoys time spent with Cleo and Daisy (Felicia's dogs) and of course, Scooby and Luna the cats!

Dinora began working at the Law Offices of Edward A. Smith in 2002 as our bilingual front desk receptionist. She is currently a Legal Assistant at our office, translator to Spanish speaking clients and performs notarial duties. As an assistant, she enjoys the variety of tasks her position entails, as well as the opportunity it affords her to meet with new and interesting people all the time.
Dinora was raised in the Central Valley area, but for the past 15 years has made Sacramento her home. Since working at our office Dinora has become the mother of two handsome boys that keep her busy and happy. As a family they enjoy traveling, being foodies and creating unforgettable memories.

Johanna is a bilingual, English & Russian-speaking legal assistant who started with the Law Offices of Edward A. Smith in 1999. She relocated out of state for several years but continued to work in the legal field, primarily in Personal Injury, Landlord-Tenant matters, and Bankruptcy. She has recently returned to Sacramento and has come back to join the team.
Johanna is a self-proclaimed "foodie" and she and her husband love to find local family-owned gems to support. She also enjoys travel, hiking, and visiting botanical gardens.
Julianne Reynolds has been with Edward A Smith Law Offices since 1993. She started out as the front desk receptionist and has been trained as a paralegal at our office. Initially, she worked handling evictions cases and later transferred to personal injury law. At times, she has also worked in our Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable department. Recently, she has been handling more of our in-house marketing projects.
The same year she began to work for Law Offices of Edward A. Smith, she met David. They married in 1996.
Besides working at our office, she has enjoyed participating in volunteer work. This has included reading with elderly ones in nursing homes, working with at-risk teenagers, doing volunteer construction projects and Bible teaching with her congregation.
In 2001, she left to pursue missionary work and served as a volunteer teacher in Russia and Panama. This has allowed her to study languages. She returned to Edward A Smith Law Offices in December 2008 now is able to help the office with Spanish and Russian speaking clients.
In her spare-time she enjoys traveling, hosting parties, cooking, reading and spending time with her family. Her family is large as she is one of six siblings.
Her travels have taken her to Portugal, Azores Islands, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, and Israel. She hopes to discover more of the world with future travels!
My name is Karly Whittaker, I have been working personally for Ed for almost two years and recently joined the law office in August. I have previous experience working for the county DA's office and the State of California. I am proud to say this is the best office I've ever been in, with incredible people. I am a legal assistant with aspirations to become a paralegal.

Oriana graduated from Mills College with a degree in Economics, where she developed a genuine passion for statistics and econometrics. These formative experiences have proved invaluable in her current role as our lead data analyst.
Before joining the Law Office of Edward A. Smith, Oriana further refined her eye for detail and capacity for objective assessment through her work as an Internal Auditor.
Oriana leverages her expertise to transform raw data into insightful and meaningful analysis. She plays a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of cases, developing strategies based on hard facts, and contributing to the pursuit of justice for our clients.
Sabrina is a proud J.D. candidate, and a law clerk for our firm. She has had nearly a decade of experience clerking at various firms in the Sacramento area. She chose a career in the legal field because her passion has always been to help others.
Aside from her professional life, Sabrina loves to cook, obsess over true crime documentaries, and check off national parks to hike across the world.

Tami joined the law offices of Ed Smith in 1995 while still in high school through their Regional occupations program offered. She was always interested in law and once her internship ended she was hired on permanently and has been here ever since. She started out running office errands, making copies and assisting with files. She later became the receptionist for the firm and managed the evictions for the Sacramento Housing Authority before settling into her role as the Account Manager where she handles all the accounts payable/receivable as well as the Human Resources for the firm.
Tami enjoys spending time with husband, kids and family, fishing, camping and traveling. She loves to cook and try out new recipes. She loves history and music of all genres.
