Thomas Fenwick was the original owner of the land Ocean City is located on. In 1869, Isaac Coffin constructed the first beachfront cottage that received paying guests. After Isaac Coffin's construction, other cottages and hotels were constructed. Businesses were established soon after and in 1880 Ocean City became an incorporated municipality.
