Dr. Matayoshi joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2015. She practices in the Oceanside area; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis patients at both FMC and DaVita Dialysis units. Dr. Matayoshi attended medical school at the University of Hawaii where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree. She completed both her residency and Nephrology fellowship at the University of California Davis Medical Center.

Dr. Amar V. Patel

Dr. Amar V. Patel joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2019. He practices in the South Bay - Chula Vista area; specializing in kidney diseases including electrolyte imbalance, hypertension, and dialysis. Dr. Patel was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Go Steelers!). He completed his undergraduate studies at New York University and obtained his medical degree from St. George's University. He completed residency at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY and his fellowship at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. As a physician, Dr. Patel prides himself on improving patient care. He researches advancements in medicine, but also takes time to learn about challenges patients and their families face in the everyday healthcare experience. It is both the science and the human element that has drawn him to a career in nephrology. Outside of work, Dr. Patel is quick with a joke, nimble on the dance floor, and a 3-time Fantasy Football Champion. Though, what he enjoys most is basking in the San Diego sunshine with his wife, 2-year-old son, and dog.

Dr. Calderon Molina

Dr. Calderon Molina joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2016. He practices in the National City area; specializing in the management of chronic kidney disease with an emphasis on diabetic kidney disease and glomerular diseases. Dr. Calderon Molina's practice includes the management of hemodialysis patients at both FMC and DaVita Dialysis units. Dr. Calderon Molina attended medical school at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Calderon Molina completed both his Internal Medicine Residency and Nephrology Fellowship training at the Yale New Haven Hospital/Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Calderon Molina is also a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN). Dr. Calderon Molina is interested in quality outcomes and patient experience satisfaction. Dr. Calderon Molina enjoys sports like tennis and soccer in his spare time and he is learning to play piano.

Dr. Marquis Hart

Dr. Marquis Hart joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2020. He is a board-certified surgeon with over 30 years of experience in the medical field. He is a specialist in transplant, hepatobiliary and general surgery. Dr. Hart received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stanford University, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. After finishing his surgical residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, he completed his fellowship training in general surgery and liver transplantation at Rush Presbyterian Medical Center. In 1993, Dr. Hart established the liver transplant program at the University of California San Diego and served as the director of the abdominal transplant programs. Dr. Hart developed the liver transplant program at Swedish Medical Center and served as the director of transplant programs until 2019. Dr. Hart is committed to helping his patients return to living healthy, productive lives. In his spare time he enjoys photography and spending time with his three beautiful daughters and two grandchildren.

Dr. Behrend attended medical school at the University of Michigan where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. He went on to complete both his residency and Nephrology fellowship training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis Missouri. Outside of work, Dr. Behrend enjoys anything technology related, snowboarding and college football.

George Fadda

Dr. Fadda was an assistant professor of Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles before he joined Balboa Nephrology medical group. Dr. Halldorson joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2017. He is a General Surgeon specializing in kidney transplantation at Sharp Memorial where he is also the Surgical Director of Transplantation.

Jill Meyer

When not caring for patients, Dr. Hammes spends a lot of time outdoors running, surfing, and cycling with his children. He likes to fish, play ukulele, cook, and tinker with his 1990 VW van.

John Thompson

Luis Bedoya

Dr. Bedoya joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2008. He practices in the Chula Vista area; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis patients at FMC South Bay for home dialysis including both peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis as well as Fresenius Medical Care for in-center hemodialysis. Dr. Bedoya attended medical school at the Peruvian University of Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. After completing his residency at Clinica Anglo-Americana (British-American Hospital) in Lima, Peru, he went on to complete both his residency and Nephrology fellowship training at Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals. Upon fully finishing his training he did four additional years of clinical research in Hypertension at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Department of Nephrology and Hypertension in Cleveland, Ohio. This latter experience of exposure to science and time of reflection help to shape him as a physician and as a nephrologist the way he is now. He enjoys the interaction with his patients and to help them and their families to go through the high burden of disease that means to have chronic and acute kidney disease. During his free time, he enjoys being with his family and friends. He likes to read not only about medicine but just about every aspect of human life. He also enjoys traveling and interacting with different cultures not only here in his practice, but also abroad. He also speaks Spanish.

Michael Yap

Dr. Yap joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2018. He practices in the Fountain Valley area; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis patients at both FMC and DaVita Dialysis units. He has special interests in glomerulonephritites and electrolyte disorders, especially hyponatremia.​ Dr. Yap attended medical school at the American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine in St. Maarten where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. After completing his residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Arizona, he completed his Nephrology fellowship training at the University of South Florida. In his spare time, he enjoys leathercraft and woodcraft, motorcycling, training in Muay Thai, playing the piano and ukulele, cooking, and going out to see musicals and comedy shows with his wife. Together, they have three cats, a dog, and as of 2020, a baby daughter.

Naing Kyaw

Dr. Kyaw joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2015. He practices in the Oceanside area; specializing in treatment of patients with all manner of kidney disease, including the care of dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients. Dr. Kyaw attended medical school at the Institute of Medicine in Burma where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. After completing his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, he completed his fellowship training at Stanford University. He is ABIM Board Certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Kyaw is a certified Hypertension Specialist with American Society of Hypertension. He also holds certification in Nephrology specialty from United Kingdom Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, running and spending time outdoors with his two boys.

Nasim Shahbazi

Dr. Shahbazi joined Balboa nephrology group in 2021. She currently practices in the El Centro area. Dr. Shahbazi moved to Canada after graduating from medical school. She did her internal medicine residency at Queen's University and nephrology fellowship at the University of Ottawa. She worked at the University of Ottawa and then at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine as nephrologist and assistant professor for ten years before moving to the United States to stay closer to her family. Dr. Shahbazi has board certification in nephrology in Canada and in the United States. She is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and has been awarded the Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. She enjoys spending her free time with her family, reading, and traveling.

Oday Saeed

Dr. Saeed joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2017. He practices in the El Centro and Brawley areas; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis patients at FMC Dialysis unit. Dr. Saeed attended medical school at the University of Baghdad College of Medicine where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. After he completed his residency at Coney Island Hospital in New York, he completed his Nephrology fellowship training at Kaiser Permanente (LAMC) in Los Angeles. In his free time, Dr. Saeed enjoys traveling, table tennis, playing guitar and swimming.

Osman Khawar

He has served multiple terms on the BNMG Board of Directors, including as Chairman. Dr. Barager is a champion of superior corporate governance, and is a certified member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He believes the two finest callings in life are being a doctor and a writer. By day, he is a nephrologist; by night, he writes fiction.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and practices in the Orange County area; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients at both Fresenius Medical Care and DaVita Dialysis units.

Shahid Hussain

Dr. Hussain joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2006. He practices in the El Centro and Brawley area; specializing in kidney diseases which includes hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis at FMC Dialysis units. He is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is also a certified interventional nephrologist, and performs hemodialysis access procedures in the Imperial Valley. He is also a sub investigator in the California Institute of Renal Research, El Centro. Dr. Hussain attended medical school at Punjab Medical School in Faisalabad, Pakistan, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree. After he completed his residency at St. Francis Medical Center in (UPMC), he completed his Nephrology fellowship training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He enjoys traveling to all parts of the world, spending time with his family and trading and investing in the stock market as a hobby.

Sina Rahimi

Dr. Rahimi joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2021. He practices in the San Diego area specializing in kidney diseases at Sharp Rees-Stealy Clinics and Sharp hospital system. Dr. Rahimi attended medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey and after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Michael's Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, he completed his Nephrology fellowship training at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Thanh Cao

Dr. Cao joined Balboa Nephrology 2021 and practices in the Fountain Valley area. The son of Vietnamese refugees, his mother was 8 months pregnant with me when she boarded a refugee boat in Cambodia. Dr. Cao's family lived in refugee camps in Thailand and the Philippines until the United Nations eventually moved his family to the United States when he was 2. He grew up in Little Saigon in Orange County, California and have lived there most of his life. Dr. Cao completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Irvine and earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Anthropology. He attended medical school at Touro University Nevada, College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. Dr. Cao completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Fellowship training was extremely unique in that he trained during the height of a global pandemic. During those unique times, he was challenged to think outside the box and develop new skills in extracorporeal blood purification. After completing the fellowship, he is grateful and enthusiastic to finally return home to Orange County to give back to the large Vietnamese community in the area.
