In the early 1900's our grandparents, Grandma (Maria Gabor) and Pappy (Ferdinand Brusko) immigrated to the United States from the eastern European country of Slovakia. They first met in the U.S. and were soon married and settled in Nanty-Glo, a small coal mining town nestled in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of western Pennsylvania. The area had a strong resemblance to the "old country" of Europe. Along with them they brought many of their values and traditions including preparing delicious family meals...
The Slavic name Brusko (pronounced Brew-sh-ko) literally means "happy tummy" or "belly" in many of the eastern European languages. Grandma Brusko more than lived up to the name!
