BURKE & NOVI

The history of the Group started at the beginning of the 20th century, when Genoa's shipping business developed very substantially with American and British oil and coal companies, as well as merchant banks and insurance companies, opening offices in the city... The Company was originally established in 1900 by Edmund Burke, great-grandfather of Enrico Burke, and - with the exception of the period during World War II - continued to operate under various names, the best known being "John Burke Shipbroker", until 1961, when Enrico Burke and Giovanni Novi founded "Burke & Novi". At the beginning, Enrico Burke was mainly in charge of dry cargo chartering and sale & purchase, while Giovanni Novi concentrated on the tanker market. In 1970 Giovanni' s brother Franco joined the partnership and worked in the dry cargo branch with Enrico Burke; they continued developing the department including sale & purchase of any type of vessel and specialising in newbuilding contracts and new projects...
