Anthony Bertrand

Anthony Bertrand joined Calvert in 2015 and graduated from Longwood University with an Associates Degree. Prior to joining Calvert, Anthony was an owner of a masonry and general construction company specializing in light commercial and residential. He has 20 years of masonry and construction experience. He brings with him a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise to the Calvert Team. As an active industry participant he is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors and Washington Building Congress. Anthony is married and has 4 daughters which keep him busy when he's not managing projects in the Virginia, DC and Maryland Region.

Bruce Spengler - President

Bruce Spengler joined Calvert in 2002 and graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Prior to joining Calvert, Bruce was Vice President of a medium sized General Contractor in the Washington DC Region. At Calvert he served as Vice President for 6 years before being named Presdent in 2010. His 30 years of experience in the construction and masonry industry brings a wealth of knowledge to Calvert with emphasis on contracts, construction engineering, planning, logistics and issue resolution. As an active industry participant, Bruce serves on the Board of Directors for Calvert and the Associated Builders & Contractors-Metro as well as serving on the Management Education Committee. His commitment to employees and clients is reflected in the tenured staff at Calvert and repeat clientele.

Jacob Nicholson

Jacob Nicholson joined Calvert in 2013 after graduating college with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. While attending college Jacob worked as a technical drafter for a custom stainless steel fabricator. During high school, Jacob actively participated in his school's masonry program, while working as a bricklayer's apprentice during the summers. In 2007 he was a Masonry finalist at the SkillsUSA National Conference placing 10th in the Nation. He has served in many roles with Calvert and was recently promoted to Project Manager. As an active industry participant, Jacob is a member of the Associated Builders & Contractors and Young Professionals. His unique skill set of both "hands on" and management experience is of great value to the daily operation of Calvert.

John Young - VP

John Young rejoined Calvert in 2013 and now serves as Calvert's Vice President. He graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and from National University with a Masters of Business Administration. Prior to rejoining Calvert, John was a Contract and Procurement Specialist for the United States Marine Corps - Marine Corps Systems Command for commercial and non-commercial services. During his employment with Calvert he has worked as a Project Engineer, Assistant Superintendent and most recently as a Project Manager. John's experience has enabled him to become an integral part of numerous successful and award winning projects throughout the Virginia, DC and Maryland Region. As an active industry participant, John is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors, Washington Building Congress and completed the Leadership Developmen t Program.

Kyrle Knouse

Kyrle Knouse joined Calvert in 1995 and graduated from Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Prior to becoming the Safety Director for Calvert, Kyrle was a journeyman mason and an assistant foreman. At Calvert he has served as the Safety Director for over 14 years overseeing all facets of Calvert's safety programs and policies. As an active industry participant, Kyrle is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors. Kyrle serves as President of Calvert's ESOP Committee and is in charge of the Apprenticeship Program. He is an OSHA Certified Safety Director and holds certifications for CPR, Scaffolding, Fraco, Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Rough Terrain Forklifts, Work Zone Traffic Safety (Flagger Instructor), Class 7B Operating Engineer, AHA Training, Drug Testing, Silica Training and numerous other safety related certifications. His daily dedication and committment to safety is a valuable asset to the employees and clients of Calvert.

Mariana Vonder

Mariana joined Calvert in 2019 with 17 years of masonry experience. As Special Projects Manager, Mariana is responsible for performing conditions assessments, estimating, and project management of Calvert's restoration projects. Prior to joining Calvert, Mariana was the co-founder and president of Dominion Restoration, LLC a historic masonry restoration firm. Her work included commercial, institutional and residential historic buildings. As a lifelong resident of the Washington, DC area Mariana is well versed in the region's architectural history and traditional masonry styles and details. She believes she has a responsibility not just to our clients, but also to the buildings we work on, as we are the stewards of the history, artistry, and technology that they embody. Mariana received her BA in Historic Preservation from the University of Mary Washington.

Mike Creger

Mike Creger has been with Calvert Masonry since 2010 and has served over 30 years in the construction industry. He has worked as a Lead Foreman on major projects for Calvert in the Region over his tenure. His vast experience, attention to detail and get it done attitude shows in the awarding winning projects he has been a part of. As of July 2020, Mike will be joining our Estimating Department and we look forward to seeing him excel in this new position.

Mike Kulp

Mike Kulp joined Calvert in 2006 and graduated from Widener University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Additionally he participated and obtained certifications in the Emerging Managers Institute and Project Manager/Superintendent Academy. Prior to joining Calvert, Mike was a Site Supervisor and Mason for a masonry contractor building light commercial and residential projects. At Calvert he served as a Project Engineer & Manager for 6 years before taking on the role as Superintendent on major projects in the region. Currently he serves as Calvert's Director of Field Operations overseeing the daily activities. Mike has over 15 years of experience in the masonry industry and uses his vast experience in the management of successful projects throughout the Virginia, DC and Maryland Region. As an active industry participant, Mike is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors and Washington Building Congress. His attention to detail and project management is reflected in the awards that Calvert has received for numerous projects across the region.

Mike Mallon

Mike Mallon joined Calvert in 2011 and holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from NVCC . Prior to joining Calvert, Mike served as a Project Manager & Estimator for 15 years for a masonry contractor building multi-family residential and institutional projects. At Calvert he served as a Project Manager for 3 years prior to his current position as Chief Estimator. Mike has over 20 years of masonry contracting experience inclusive of field labor supervision, project management and estimating. As an active industry participant, Mike is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors and Washington Building Congress. He has become an integral part of the leadership team of Calvert and has been a large part of the companies growth throughout the Virginia, DC and Maryland Region.

Raymond Harley

Ray joined Calvert Masonry as Foreman in 1995 aft er twenty (20) years with Innamorato Construction Company, where he had worked his way up the ranks from Bricklayer to Foreman. During his first ten (10) years at Calvert, Ray built several of our K-12 school projects throughout Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax counties, and also led our team through Calvert's first ten (10)+ story new building. Ray was promoted to Superintendent in 2005 to oversee several projects at a time, including the new TC Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School), which was a $10 million + masonry project. By 2010 Ray had taken a larger role as Senior Superintendent with the passing of our VP of Field Operations. Ray Harley joined Calvert in 2005 and attended Old Dominion University and Columbia Tech. Additionally he participated and obtained certification in Masonry Wall Bracing from the Mason Contractors Association of America. Prior to joining Calvert, Ray was a Foreman and Bricklayer for a contractor building light commercial, institutional and residential projects. At Calvert he served as a Project Foreman for 10 years before taking on the role as Superintendent on major projects in the region. Ray has over 30 years of experience in the masonry industry and uses his extensive expertise and experience in the management of successful projects throughout the Virginia, DC and Maryland Region. As an active industry participant, Ray is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors. Ray has become well known in the industry for his attention to detail, problem solving skills and demand for quality craftmanship on each and every project he manages.

William Kirby - CFO

Bill Kirby joined Calvert in 1997 and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Science in Taxation from George Mason University. Prior to joining Calvert, Bill was a Partner & CPA for an accounting firm in the Washington DC Region. At Calvert he has served as Chief Financial Officer for the past 20 years. His dedication and knowledge with Calvert has been a key factor to the overall continued success of the company. Bill also holds a Certified Public Accountant License in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the ESOP Association. His commitment to Calvert is reflected in the long term stability of the company as well as the valued vendor, client and staff relationships.
