Ellen Rein Pierce - VP

Vice President of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc., Ms. Pierce graduated from Rice University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical Sciences. She received Rice's Max Roy Scholarship for Science and Engineering and was a National Merit Commended Student. Ms. Pierce began her actuarial career with Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. in September, 1992. She has gained experience in establishing loss reserves, projecting losses, and calculating rate indications for over 130 self-insured groups, individual risks, and insurance companies in the workers compensation, auto, property and liability lines, including auto, general, law enforcement, and professional liability. Additional work includes calculating deductible factors, regulatory consulting, captive feasibility studies, and dividend calculations. In total, she has completed over 1,100 actuarial analyses in her over thirty years with Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. Ms. Pierce taught the actuarial portion of the Louisiana Association of Self Insured Employers' (LASIE's) Certified Workers' Compensation Professional (CWCP) program and has spoken at meetings of the north Florida chapter of the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) and the Alabama Self-Insured Association (ASIA). She also served on the Casualty Actuarial Society's (CAS's) task force on classes of membership and member advisory panel. She has hosted Rice University students interested in the actuarial career through their Owl Edge spring break externship program. Ms. Pierce is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Ms. Pierce became an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1996 and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2004. Ms. Pierce is an actuary who is qualified to sign a Statement of Actuarial Opinion because she is a member in good standing of each of these organizations. In addition, Ms. Pierce meets the basic education, experience, and continuing education requirements of the Specific Qualifications Standard for Statements of Actuarial Opinion, NAIC Property and Casualty Annual Statement, as set forth in the Qualification Standards for Actuaries Issuing Statements of Actuarial Opinions in the United States, promulgated by the American Academy of Actuaries. She works from Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc.'s office in Mandeville, Louisiana.

Emily Kay Brooks

Actuarial Analyst of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc., Ms. Brooks graduated cum laude from David Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1993. With a major in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Finance, she maintained a 3.6 grade point average on a four-point grading system. During her college career, Ms. Brooks was a member of the Mathematical Association of America and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. In June of 1988, Ms. Brooks joined Willis Corroon Administrative Services Corporation. Initially a part-time employee while a full-time student, she became a full-time employee upon graduation. Her responsibilities included processing claim payments, excess recoveries, deductibles, experience reports, and claims service contracts. Ms. Brooks joined Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. in June of 1995. She has completed Part 1 of the seven exams required for Associateship in the Casualty Actuarial Society. She has gained experience in establishing loss reserves and calculating rate indications for self-insured groups and individual risks in several of the property and liability lines, including workers compensation. Additional responsibilities include calculation of loss cost multipliers, feasibility studies, and dividend calculations.

J. Edward Costner - President

President of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. Ed Costner graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Actuarial Science in 1975. He is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is also a member of the Risk Management Section of the CAS. Ed is President and CEO of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. (CACI) located in Brentwood, TN, which he founded in 1989. CACI specializes in working with both individual and group self-insureds across the country. CACI currently provides services to over 100 self-insured groups and to approximately one hundred individual self-insureds, captive insurance companies, domestic insurance companies, and insurance regulatory organizations. In the last year, Ed has spoken at the Southwestern Actuarial Forum, the Homebuilders Multi-State Conference, the AGC/SIF Information Exchange, and the SIIA Group Self-Insured Workers' Compensation Executive Forum. He is Past-President of Casualty Actuaries of the Southeast, a regional affiliate of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Kimberly Baker Hand

Assistant Vice President of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc., Ms. Hand graduated magna cum laude from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics in 1993. She was elected a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and was included in Who's Who Among American Universities. In 1993, Ms. Hand was awarded a graduate fellowship by Middle Tennessee State University. As a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics, she taught College Algebra to undergraduates and consulted in the Mathematical Learning Center. Ms. Hand began her actuarial career with American General Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1994. Assigned to the Reserve Analysis Department, her duties included preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements, assuring forms were in compliance with state legislation, and implementation of a new health reserve system. Ms. Hand joined Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. in October of 1994. She has gained experience in establishing loss reserves and calculating rate indications for self-insured groups and individual risks in several of the property and liability lines, including workers compensation and general liability. Additionally, Ms. Hand has prepared dividend allocations, calculated experience modification factors, and derived d-ratios and manual rates by class code. Ms. Hand is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

P. Keith Wooley - VP

Vice President of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc., Mr. Wooley graduated with honors from Birmingham-Southern College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Wooley earned majors in both Mathematics and Business Administration with emphasis on Finance. During his junior year, Mr. Wooley received the Ouida B. Kinzey Mathematics Scholarship that is awarded to a student who has distinguished himself in the field of mathematics. While a senior at Birmingham-Southern, Mr. Wooley worked in Protective Life Corporation's actuarial department, where his duties included valuation of life and health policies, state pages, and implementation of various software routines. In September of 1988, Mr. Wooley joined the Research and Development (RAD) division of Corroon & Black's Advanced Risk Management Services (ARMS). In this position he prepared actuarial consulting assignments for major industrial clients and captive insurance companies. Mr. Wooley joined Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. in August of 1991. He has gained experience in establishing loss reserves and calculating rate indications for self-insured groups, individual risks, captives, and insurance companies in the workers compensation, auto and general liability, and property lines. Additional work includes calculating experience modification and deductible factors, preparing feasibility studies, and estimating dividends. Mr. Wooley is proficient in modeling aggregate loss distributions with commercial risk analysis software. Mr. Wooley is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Thomas P. Langer - VP

Vice President of Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc., Mr. Langer graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota in 1997 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Education. While in graduate school, he taught College Algebra as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. He was awarded a Master of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Statistics from the University of North Dakota in 1999. While at the University of North Dakota, Mr. Langer was awarded the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education Scholarship for four years and earned an NCAA post-graduate scholarship. He was also elected to the Golden Key Honor Society, Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa, and Who's Who Among American Universities. Mr. Langer joined Casualty Actuarial Consultants, Inc. upon completing graduate school in May of 1999. He has gained experience in establishing loss reserves and calculating rate indications for self-insured groups, individual risks, and insurance companies in several of the property and liability lines, including workers compensation and general liability. Additionally, Mr. Langer has prepared dividend allocations, calculated experience modification factors, and derived deductible credits using aggregate loss analyses.
