Abby Mackey

Abby Mackey joined Carr Resources in the Spring of 2021. She graduated Valedictorian from Overton High School in 2013 and continued her education at Tyler Junior College and Tarleton State University where she was a part of the volleyball team at both schools. Abby graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Tarleton in 2017. After graduating Abby became part of the administrative team at Ted W. Walters and Associates where she was a part of several different projects and throughout the years gained experience as a Landman. She is a member of the ETAPL. Abby enjoys spending time with her family and friends, interior decorating, reading, and playing golf. She happily resides in Overton, Texas with her two cats, Sissy and Bubba.

Case Castagno

Job Titles:
  • Petroleum Engineer
Case Castagno joined the company early 2022 in the role of operations and reservoir engineer. He completed his BS in Petroleum Engineering and minor in Geology from the University of Kansas in 2017. He was the president of Sigma Chi fraternity. Prior to joining the team, Case worked as a reservoir engineer for Tanos Exploration. His experience includes reserve audits over multiple assets, economic modeling, and A&D evaluations. He has experience in conventional and unconventional formations for new drill and behind pipe opportunities. Case is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Treasurer of the East Texas Geological Society. Case resides with his wife and daughter in Tyler.

David Googins

Job Titles:
  • Senior Engineer
David Googins joined the company in the summer of 2019 in the role of completion engineer bringing 40+ years of experience in various roles with Parsley Energy, Callon Petroleum, Marathon Oil Company, USX Corporation, and Texas Oil and Gas Corporation. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S. Petroleum Engineering. His experience is in upstream oil and gas engineering including drilling, completions, production, reservoir engineering, and operations. He has experience in conventional and unconventional formations drilling and completions. His positions have included Reservoir Engineer, Production Superintendent, Natural Gas Marketing Representative to Senior Staff Production Engineer. Following the completion of drilling and completion operations in the Austin County and Scurry County properties David has remained as a consultant to the company. David resides in Tyler.

Hunter Carr

Hunter Carr completed his BS in Geology from the University of Georgia in 2014 and received an MS Geology from the University of Houston in 2019. He worked in oil marketing out of school and then in 2016 he joined the company as a staff geologist but concentrated on his Master's work. He is now working full time with the company on current projects and databases as well as new projects.

John P. Carr - President

  • President
John Carr was born in Dallas and raised in the countryside in the last unincorporated part of Dallas County which is now in north Grand Prairie. He received a BS in Geology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1977 as a member of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Honor Society. John was employed as a staff geologist by Delta Drilling Company. He developed as a geologist with Delta and then as Delta was going public he moved to work with a group of geophysicists at Power Exploration. Having absorbed a good deal of geophysical knowledge, he moved to a start-up exploration and production company with Jim Rippy at Sunnybrook Oil and Gas. He continued there until the company was sold in 1984 and thereafter started his own company which has run in different iterations since that time. John is also active in his profession, community, and his church. He has served in many positions with the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, as president of CASA as well as the East Texas Geological Society, and with Smith County Child Welfare as well as on other boards and commissions. John graduated from the Episcopal Iona School for Ministry in 2012 and was ordained into the priesthood on January 15, 2016. He served as the Vicar of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lindale from 2013 -2019 retiring in June of 2019. As a bi-vocational priest John will continue his oil and gas exploration business, Carr Resources, Inc., and also serve in the Episcopal Church as a supply priest in the Diocese of Texas. John married his high school sweetheart, Lucy, in 1977 and they moved to Tyler in January of 1978 where they raised their two children, Hunter and Megan. His hobbies include long-distance motorcycle rides, sailing, hunting, and fishing.

Matthew Monigold

Matthew Monigold graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.S. Geology degree in 2013 and completed his Geology Master's program at the University of Arlington in May of 2020. During the past decade, Matthew worked as a GIS analyst and Landman for various independent oil companies. He has also a member of the AAPL. He works as a staff geologist on new and current projects.
