CES was established in 1990 to service a then fledgling market in the field of Environmental Management and Impact Assessment. Our establishment predated the legal requirement in South Africa to undertake Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), which came into force in 1997. At that time EIAs were voluntary, so our early work focused on international EIAs and a range of other environmental service offerings. This makes us one of the oldest environmental practices in South Africa... The Company has grown significantly since those early days, due to the increased demand for our high quality environmental and social advisory services across 20 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Our founding partner, Dr Ted Avis remains with the company, and some of our staff have been with us for almost two decades, so there is continuity in our service offerings...
